Yeah...and honestly I don't use the voice stuff in games, but love it outside of games, so this is perfect. I'd rather not yell at the tv during games, but I love it for changing channels and turning it on/off.

I don't see it as backtracking, but adapting to give us more options...I'm a huge fan of what MS is doing with updates vs. Sony, definitely giving the user way more features in a much faster time.

The AV overlays from my denon aren't dimmed so it's definitely the Xbox One. Turning the TV and the DVR off individually do nothing, but turning the Xbox One off and then on fixes it reliably.
This would happen to me before the last X1 update. Has not happened since.

Would do the same restart to fix.

Great job on Microsoft's part. My cousin apparently got banned from the Live servers for two weeks for getting paired up with someone who was using a modded system, or someone reported her because they lost to her and Microsoft decided not to do any research before banning her.

So my Xbox one isn't turning on anymore. The power supply has an orange light on but touching the logo on the front doesn't do anything. No noise or anything. Turning on the controller doesn't do anything either. Anyone experience this?

In the office (with devkits, not retail consoles), I've seen all sorts of weird behavior. Try a few things:
              1) Unplugging and replugging the power cord on all 3 connections (Xbox, brick, and wall), as it may not be plugged in all the way.

              2) Try a different outlet or power strip.

The couple of times the One has not turned on for me, #1 has always fixed the problem. The brick has some built-in surge protection and this is the only way to reset it.

                      Re: Xbox One

I will preface this with saying I own all Playstation systems, all Xbox, all Nintendo, a few of the older Sega systems. I love video games and get every system. I may sound like a "fanboy" but given all the systems I own, it is actually just that I prefer the Xbox, whether it be the controller, Live, OS, whatever the case may be.

So I have been wondering something for some time, maybe some people here can help me understand, as many people here have stated it, in this thread even. I saw the thread in here about 18.5 mil PS4 sold to date, and looked for Xbox One sales to see how they compare. Nothing was really out there, but I did stumble across this one: article.

In that article, the line I am talking about that people have said here came up:
As it stands, the Xbox One is the least game-oriented home entertainment console on the market for hardcore gamers.
I don't get that line at all. Lets look at some items and how it compares to "hardcore" gamers.

                      1) DRM BS!!!! If you ask me, this was for gamers? People can speculate all they want how they wanted to lock stuff down, prevent used games, etc. However, it gave way to purchase disks without needing to insert them into the system. And a way to trade in downloaded games. And share to family on other systems. There has been much talk in here and PS4 thread about wanting digital for remote play, for convenience of not having to change disks, but disks are cheaper usually, can be traded in. Seems they made all that possible, with a few sacrifices such as the online checks. I dare someone to come up with a workable way that would prevent the same game being played on multiple consoles?

                      2) Less powerful hardware. Fine, point taken. However the same games are on both systems, and look damn near identical, if not identical, with reports of some performing better. However that can't make it less about the games right? Otherwise in any generation the less powerful system wouldn't be for the hardcore gamers.

                      3) Kinect. Gives a way to sign into profiles without having to click anything. voice commands to go to different apps. game stuff like motion or voice. gestures to move around the dashboard and whatnot. That can't make it less about the games? PS4 has a camera too, that does a lot of the same stuff. You can disagree with it being forced with the system at the start and not want to pay for it. But it has nothing to do with games.

                      4) apps. Netflix. Amazon. Twitch. PS4 has pretty much all the same ones. So this can't be a point.

                      5) tv integration. HDMI in so you can run your tv through it. Seems to be for gamers, no? You want to keep up on an NFL game while playing a game. Snap tv. No need to pause and go between inputs. It isnt like they are playing tv and forcing you to play the game in the small snapped window lol. Ever set a time to play with a friend and you end up sitting there waiting for them? either play something else or maybe leave the headset on and change inputs to watch tv while waiting? well with the one you can watch tv and see the notification right there when the friend gets online or sends the party invite. You can be watching tv and go straight to a game without needing to wake from rest or change inputs or whatever. is just another media app (with media that is used far more often in most households) and makes gaming more convenient.

                      6) controller. personal preference, but left thumbstick is where your left thumb is glued 99% of the time while playing. xbox seems to have it in a far more natural position. better texture so the thumb doesnt slip off. rumble in the triggers which is great for shooting or driving vs cheap plastic flippers. I bet a lot of hardcore gamers play for hours at a time. Well better get another controller to keep charged when the other one runs out in 4-6 hours, or play with it plugged in. Vs throwing some rechargeable AA's to be good for 3-4 weeks. Again, personal preference, but that is how i see it.

...so again...why is Xbox One less for hardcore gamers than ps4? 1 seemed to be a direction to make things more convenient. 2 seems like the only "logical" reason, but that was never said in the past generations. 3 is just an added peripheral, and if you didnt want it or to have it included in the console cost that is fine, but it doesnt mean it isnt about games. 4 are apps both have, and 5 is an additional app to make things more convenient. 6 i think xbox actually has it more features for gamers, though either way it shouldnt make the other one less gamer centered no matter which side you sit on.

We're well over a year in.

                        Let it die already.

As for sales numbers? PS4 is at like 18.5 million solds. XBOne is probably slightly under 10 (because it seems like if they hit 10M sold they would likely put that number out there.)

I don't get why people get so wrapped up in sales. They literally don't matter at all. I mean unless the console you like is not selling at all. Obviously it would start to matter since devs would just stop working with that console. That's not the case here though. Both consoles are doing well.

I've actually avoided discussions in this thread because of the vitriol received here but you're asking for fair information and from your post, an adult discussion.
Why is the Xbox1 not considered gamer friendly, or less for gamers? Two words, Parity Clause. Spencer believes that indie developers must launch their product on Xbox One at the same time it is launched on any other platform. That means, they can't, launch a product on PC or other console first, and then port it to Xbox One later. Whether you agree with him or not, all the the bullet points you identified won't add up to the number of games that the PS4 has over XBone. Thus, giving the media and gamers a valid argument of "less".

"So, for me, the parity thing is, if you own an Xbox One, I want to work for you to make sure that when great content launches, if it's coming to Xbox and another platform, that you kind of get it at the same time everybody else does." Head of Xbox Phil Spencer

I personally don't understand Spencer's claim when he picks and chooses certain games (Outlast) for example. It made its debut on PC, then PS4, and later to the XBox1. Warframe is another game that was just recently added to the Xbox lineup. To me, Microsoft gives mixed signals as to what games they'll make exceptions for and why. And the idea that a studio has to adhere to these rules seems absurd to me - or not "gamer friendly". I know Indie games are not the most popular, but many games I've played have been very good to excellent. In 2015, they'll be many more.

You stated in your opening message that you love video games. Spencer added, the true winners of this policy are Xbox One gamers. The question is, do you really feel this way?
