I think Gamestop's been one-upped in the upgrade game. I believe their program was buy a game, and within 30 days trade it in for the Xbox One version and you'd only have to pay $10? Basically giving you $50 for a trade in.

Amazon's offer, via Joystiq:

Each eligible Xbox 360 game traded in to Amazon prior to December 31 will be valued at $25 and, as part of this promotion, Amazon will tack on another $25. That leaves you to make up the $10 in-between.

Amazon will support eight games over GameStop's five: Battlefield 4, Need for Speed: Rivals, Madden NFL 25, Call of Duty: Ghosts, FIFA 14, Watch Dogs, NBA 2K13 and Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag.

So not as tricky date-wise, and get to buy games from the typically more deal-conscious Amazon. Easier to deal with a local store, but trade off is more flexibility with time perhaps.

I bought my Xbox 360 game somewhere else. Does this program apply to me?
Yes. As long as you trade in the Xbox 360 version with Amazon and buy the Xbox One version from Amazon, this program will apply to you.

Also you can trade up for CEs and stuff, you just have to pay the difference.

My biggest issue with going digital with the X1 is from what I recall seeing, the hard drive is not able to be upgraded correct? 500 gig is a ton of room (I have used a 20 gig xbox for about 5 years) but if you are a person that likes getting a lot of games, that could be an issue down the road.

Confirmed. Isn't it amazing that he had to fit that fine print into his 140 characters? Also note that it's a digital download, not a retail physical copy, and it still has a limited stock...

Welcome to the "free-to-play" hellhole plague that has been infesting PC games for years.

It only gets worse from here, considering who the biggest market for console gamers is.

If Killer Instinct is a financial success, you will learn to hate f2p games. It is a good business model to make fast returns on investments. That is the nicest thing you will ever hear me say about the model.

While I don't disagree with some of your sentiments around F2P, it's not all bad. It can add value for those that want to sample more games with limited time (see the OUYA, for example).

I agree it can cause huge problems, especially for otherwise "AAA" titles.

Just a heads up for anyone still looking to get their hands on a day 1 edition xbox one. Received a call from my local gamestop that they have reopened their preorders for day 1 xbox one edition. Not sure if other gamestops are doing so as well but may want to check with your local gamestop if you want to get your hands on one.

I don't see how limited stock is surprising. If they sell out of preorders then well the deal is over. Nothing shocking here. These people are getting a free game that retails at 60 dollars I don't see how you can view this as a negative. Its meant to get consumers to preorder the One. If you can't get a preorder then you missed out.
