Re: Xbox One
Respawn Entertainment talks about the Xbox Live Cloud in relation to Titanfall:
With the Xbox Live Cloud, we don’t have to worry about estimating how many servers we’ll need on launch day. We don’t have to find ISPs all over the globe and rent servers from each one. We don’t have to maintain the servers or copy new builds to every server. That lets us focus on things that make our game more fun. And best yet, Microsoft has datacenters all over the world, so everyone playing our game should have a consistent, low latency connection to their local datacenter. Most importantly to us, Microsoft priced it so that it’s far more affordable than other hosting options – their goal here is to get more awesome games, not to nickel-and-dime developers. So because of this, dedicated servers are much more of a realistic option for developers who don’t want to make compromises on their player experience, and it opens up a lot more things that we can do in an online game. This is a really big deal, and it can make online games better. This is something that we are really excited about. The Xbox Live Cloud lets us to do things in Titanfall that no player-hosted multiplayer game can do. That has allowed us to push the boundaries in online multiplayer and that’s awesome. We want to try new ideas and let the player do things they’ve never been able to do before! Over time, I expect that we’ll be using these servers to do a lot more than just dedicated servers. This is something that’s going to let us drive all sorts of new ideas in online games for years to come.Last edited by Kevin26385; 06-24-2013, 03:17 PM. -
Re: Xbox One
First, need to look up the definition of fact. It will help.
Second, I do not know what you guys do for a living. But in the corporate world, a business having a multi-million dollar and mult-year advantage over a competitor is something that is very difficult to overcome. Is it impossible? Of course not, especially in this case where nothing on either side is secret or exclusive. There are just a 1000 different business cases that show this concept at work. But is a pretty tough task for a competitor to overcome a huge headstart over a short window.
Multi millions are drop in the bucket for companies like Sony and Microsoft - Afterall, Sony is Global Top 100 company - In the corporate world with a company like Sony based in technology, they're not just starting on how to figure out a network you know. This isn't something they're just learning or have no clue about. They actually have a pretty decent online service now that serves well without even asking for a dime from the consumer for the past years..Comment

Re: Xbox One
Anyone still plan on buying their games digitally? I plan on still downloading every thing. If Microsoft has shown me anything over the past few years its that none of their policies are set in stone. They're always looking to improve what they have and I still have hope for those of us who want to buy digital.Comment

Re: Xbox One
Anything short of at least 10 bucks off for digital downloads is a ripoff. There is no reason digital equals the same price as physical in today's world. Especially since the family sharing digital trade in marketplace is not coming to reality at least at the start of this new gen.Comment

Re: Xbox One
Im talking about a 60 dollar release. Like buying The Last of Us for 60 bucks digitally today.
If we're talking about games that have been out for months then thats another story. Even though Id still argue that they should still run you cheaper than their physical counterparts. And I mean on every level of digital media versus physical media. Im not shooting at Xbox in particular. I don't buy full games digitally because its not worth it (except for those too good to pass up deals that come every here and there).Comment

Re: Xbox One
Why? In what specific way do you think that? No one's even seen how online will be handled on the next generation for either Sony or Microsoft and I've already gone into detail on the PS4 thread why there were issues with Sony last generation. For all we know, Microsoft's servers are going to take a huge steaming dump when everyone jumps onto live on the xbox one while everyone's downloading the day one patch to make their consoles useable offline.
I don't think you can really give blanket statements like that without knowing any details. We have to wait until the consoles are released and been out on the market for a while to see how things are even being handled. You can't just make broad generalizations about things that no one really knows about yet.
For Xbox I'd be able to download a system update or game fairly fast. For PS3 it'd take me forever (I'd probably not play that night, whereas on 360 I'd have it sooner).
Your PS4 post on why PSN was rough is a great post. I've just been really frustrated with the system update dl speeds in the past so it would annoy me if PS4 wasn't at least competitive with Live at that point.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

Next-Gen begins now, with TWITCH on Xbox Live!
Download the Twitch app on Xbox Live now! I'm watching some guy play Batman Arkam City now. Seems like all you can do is watch them play, can't comment or anything, or I don't know how to comment.Comment

Re: Xbox One
But I still expect developers to add spectator mode in sports games. Twitch would limit the visuals to one camera view and only what the broadcaster is doing (an example would be in Madden where you can only see their plays being called etc.)
It's possible, and I always bring the example of EAMMA up where they had a party join in on a fight card and allow each viewer to switch cameras and watch the fights leading up to their fight. This was probably my favorite feature this current gen. Lots of fun.Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.Comment

Re: Xbox One
It's been confirmed that xbone will not include a headset with the system, and players will be directed to use the Kinect for chat instead.
On the plus side, an open mic will lead to more material like this:

The second he got smart like that, I'd put my foot through the back of his head.
I was hoping that she'd come into the room and she'd start beating him, though. I was a little disappointed when that didn't happen.--

Hey guys I need help. Make my decision easy for me. I know this is an Xbox one thread so there will be some bias in here, but I'm ok with that.
At first I really wanted a PS4. The fact that it was cheaper, "more powerful" (I say that in quotes because nobody really knows yet), and because of The MLB the show series.
But now, my gut is telling me to go for the Xbox one. Why? Because the new kinect is insanely impressive, the hype of the cloud has gotten to me and I think it'll be huge for online multiplayer (I play that a lot), Titanfall looks awesome, NFL, TV integration, and the voice control **** is cool.
In a perfect world, I'd buy both. But by the time I did that, bought games, and online access for both, I'd be down more than a thousand bucks. Not an easy pill to swallow.
What do you guys think? Do I follow the crowd and go with the PS4 since everyone is saying it'll be better graphically? Or do I go with my gut and trust Microsoft who says the cloud will make gaming exponentially better? Will the graphic difference be that noticeable to me or anyone for that matter?
I never thought I'd have such a tough decision in my life. So please, give me all the advice you can give. Thanks!Comment

Re: Xbox One
My advice?
Wait until they're both out for a month or so before you purchase, so you know what you're getting yourself into if you're only getting one.
Also, it's a known fact the PS4 has more powerful hardware. That's not even something that can be debated.badComment

Personally, there's currently a few things that we know that are making me lean heavily towards PS4 at launch:- the PS4 is more powerful (maybe about 50% more so, look into the PS4 thread where I explain why - also digital foundry had the same finding)
- it's $100 cheaper
- PS+ is an incredible value. Almost $2,400 worth of games given for free since it started, and that's just for North American PS+
- Sony didn't try to slap our face with shady DRM practices and always-online, then backtrack and pretend like it never happened in the first place, hoping people would forget
- When the PS4 eventually retires, just like with my PS3, it won't become completely useless because I would still be able to use it for basic video services like Netflix without paying for an additional subscription
- I've got a Vita and playing PS4 games on it while anywhere in my house is going to be pretty sweet. I already do this with the few PS3 games that support it like Tokyo Jungle.
- the creepy Kinect isn't bundled in with the PS4
- Sony's isn't treating Indie Devs like second class citizens
- Sony has Mark Cerny and Microsoft doesn't
I also enjoy the Sony exclusives more, and I think their first party studios are much better than Microsoft's.SCE Japan (including Team ICO & Project Siren) - Ape Escape, Siren, LocoRoco, Patapon, Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, Tokyo Jungle, The Last Guardian?, Knack
Naughty Dog - Crash Bandicoot, Jak and Daxter, Uncharted, The Last of Us
SCE Santa Monica - God of War
SCE San Diego - MLB: The Show
Sucker Punch - Sly Cooper, Infamous
SCE Bend - Syphon Filter, Resistance: Retribution, Uncharted: Golden Abyss
Guerrilla - Killzone
Evolution Studios - Motorstorm, World Rally Championship
