Then I was thinking maybe sell the Xbox One S in November (or trade it in if they offer a good trade in) for about $200 (throw in some games and a controller and it'd still be under warranty) and it'd probably be about a $200 upgrade to get the Scorpio.

Still not sure if all of it is worth it for just UHD movies but it would be nice to have Forza in HDR.
Forza in HDR is freaking amazing bro. I basically just did what you are suggesting. I wanted a UHD player and the One S is really the most logical for the price point. I was actually able to trade in my One into Gamestop for $150 store credit which I thought was a pretty freaking good deal. Then got the One S from Costco (with the Minecraft bundle for the kids) for $239 +tax.

As for your HDD issue. I got a 5TB external off Amazon about a year ago for like $120. They are probably even cheaper now. It would take a lot to fill up that thing.

This is the link for the HDD I have.

      https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

      Thing works flawlessly.

That Xbox Game Pass might be a game changer. Interesting to see how it plays out.

A good friend of mine works at Dell and may be able to give me a 17% off any purchase code which would mean I'd be able to upgrade to the Xbox One S for $120 and get a $100 gift card, so basically it'd cost me $20 to upgrade.

Will be ordering here soon once he gets me the code. Unfortunately they don't have the red Xbox One S at Dell though.

That's a great deal. So torn right now about trading in to Gamestop for the S or waiting for Project Scorpio

You can have at least 2. I have a 5tb on my home xbox, i plug my 2tb into it to copy games over to it to bring into the gaming room. Just got a 4tb to use in the gaming room, copied everything from the 2Tb onto that one.

I will just wait and get Scorpio like my original plan and hope they come up with an easier process to do a system swap out by then.

I'm very disappointed in you MS. You should take a note on how Sony makes upgrading from the PS4 to PS4 Pro, system backup/restore. That worked as easy as anything and made upgrading to a better system effortless.

P.S. can someone please correct me if I'm wrong and there actually is a very easy way to do this??? I can't believe MS wouldn't have a better way to do this to encourage people to upgrade.
In the case I noted above with copying all from the 2tb (and a few on the internal) to the 4tb, it was a total of about 125 games. Took me about 10 minutes to go through all..press menu, manage, move all, 4tb external. Rinse, repeat. Probably about the same amount of time it takes to get the ps4s set up, connected, and transfer started.

It sounds like a great idea, but for me it's going to depend on the titles in the program, and how long they're in the program for. If it's on the service for 30 days only, then they rotate, to me there's no point.

Well it's about effort more than time. The PS4 I set it to backup and came back, it was done. Plugged in the external, set it to restore and came back and it was done. No manual selecting anything, let alone a bunch of games or apps individually. I don't like to do it all manually and MS shouldn't expect you to.

There definitely should be a "highlight and move all" option for both games and apps folders, just like MS has for windows folder management. Can you imagine Windows expecting you to highlight and drag each document individually to a new folder? LOL...and that is even easier because you have a mouse to use...

Thankfully I have very little games on the Xbox One so it shouldn't take me long but it's still something MS needs to address if they expect people to upgrade systems. If they don't make it as easy and effortless as possible some folks may read about what they will have to do and decide it's not worth the effort.

Using an external is about as easy and effortless as it is. The option is there.

So thanks to a deal and a discount code I got from a buddy I was able to order the Xbox One S 1TB Halo Wars 2 bundle and it'll end up costing me $266 total. I'll also be getting a $100 gift card.

I have sold my Xbox One to a buddy for $150 so basically it won't cost me much at all to upgrade.

This will help space wise as well as I am going to use the $100 gift card to get an external 2TB drive. So I will then have 3TB of space versus what I have now which is 1.5TB.

The process is there so you can move games back and forth, use on other systems, hard drives, etc. You are correct, it isn't easy for bulk moving if you have a lot of games or are doing a bulk system transfer, in that case it is it tedious (though not extremely time consuming.) I wasn't trilled when I got the new external knowing I would have to manually move 120 games individually from one drive to the other, but it did only take me about 10 minutes to do it, so it wasn't a huge hassle.

I would wager though...that case is rather rare. If you have an external, chances are you have most, if not all games on it already, so it is a simple plug and play on a new system. If you have your games on an internal, then you likely don't have more than what, 20 or so? In that case, getting a new system, go into games ready to install and download them, insert disks for games you are going to play. And if moving to external to other internal, 20 games would take a minute or two each way.

Tedious, a hassle? Sure enough. But enough to keep you from buying a system or say not worth the effort (when I believe you have said you mostly play on PS4 anyways so you probably don't have a ton of xbox games)? Maybe I am too easy going but I think people make too big of an issue for such minor stuff.

Yeah, ironically the only people who are really going to be "punished" are the early adopters of Xbox One, people who bought and installed a lot of games prior to them allowing us to have an external drive. If you bought your Xbox One a little later and installed all your games to an external then it's not an issue.

I agree...it's not a huge issue but I'm looking at the competition not having this issue (since Sony has backup/restore) and heck, as I said, even MS themselves don't have this issue on their own OS in Windows. They'd never expect anyone to select and copy or move each file in a folder one at a time so they shouldn't expect people who own their game system to have to do this either.

So while I agree with you that it's a #firstworldproblem let's also not excuse it when it's a valid issue. Microsoft most certainly does need to address it with a simple "select all" option in a future update.
