Hahaha. Nice try. Difference is that in sports games, all the players are real life players where as the majority of video games are fictional. Some are based though on actual characters, places and events though.

Have you ever stopped to think though about if they used a known player for an NFL game it wouldn't work? Would I, as a Cowboys fan, be rip roaring eager to buy Madden 18 to take Aaron Rodgers from biddy league ball to the NFL?

Would a Redskin fan be rip roaring ready to take Ezekiel Elliot from unknown to the Dallas Cowboys? Would a Saints fan like my wife be fired up to play the new Longshot mode to take Cam Newton from playing against 6 year olds to the Carolina Panthers in a new story mode?

Of course not, you could never use a known player in a story mode because the entire point of doing so is you're taking a blank canvass and creating a story in someones head. Aaron Rodgers story is already written, ditto for Ezekiel Elliot. And lastly, ditto for Cam Newton.

ESPECIALLY in a sports game where people have such passion and hated for people should you use a fictional, unbranded, no-name person. The fact you think that is an issue as to why it's not a good mode shows how little you really poorly thought out your argument is I think.

I don't hate sports games. I just think that they're truly a waste of time playing because as someone who played more sports games than anyone here, the more the years pass, the worse the sports games get. Like I said in my previous post, all style and no substance. It's all flash to what will get the "social" crowd as opposed to an actual sports fan. Only reason they sell is because there's no competition for NFL, NBA, MLB and if I remember correctly NHL.

What do the sports games have to do with Xbox One? Sports games are all multi-platform except for MLB: The Show and that's easily included in my complaints. The Show is nowhere near what MVP or Triple Play were except in visuals which is expected.

Don't know why you included Xbox One when the console has nothing to do with the sports games themselves. And I don't hate Xbox. I purchased an original Xbox twice. Xbox 360 a bunch of freaking times, Xbox One twice and Xbox One Slim twice. Just because I easily prefer PS4 over Xbox One doesn't mean I hate it just like me easily preferring Xbox 360 didn't mean that I hated PS3.

And console wars/fanboys are those who only own one console brand and are loyal to that one brand. I'm not loyal to either. I have my favorite but I will always own both console brands because at the end of the day, im a gamer first and foremost. Xbox One has some exclusives that I still have to play and a few next year. If I truly hated Xbox One, I would have sold the console and never looked back as opposed to still owning it and looking forward to three exclusives in 2018.

I know that I repeat myself and that I come across as if I hate Xbox One but I don't hate Xbox One. What I hate is Microsoft's direction and Spencer's constant bullcrap but the direction makes sense for what they want to do and Spencer is just another PR type. It's simply not what I prefer them to do or focus on. That's all. Nothing more and nothing less.

I agree but here's a better idea. Instead of a fictional player, they should cut out the pre-NFL stuff, start with the Draft and let you build up a rookie player with the option of just controlling that one rookie on his respective team or by "re-doing" the NFL Draft and using the rookie that you Draft in the first round. Both options would be far better than a fictional player simply because that rookie is an actual real life player and as a rookie, nothing has been written.

The above list is easily 100 sports games and is only what I remember and doesn't include wrestling or racing games. If I included them, probably closer to 200. All starts with NES or later as NES was the first console I owned.

There's a reason why I quit sports games. 90% of gaming for me between NES to Xbox 360/PS3 was SPORTS games. The other 10% consists of beat em ups like Final Fight, Streets of Rage and classics like SMW, DKC, Zelda, etc.

I owned so many freaking games that it was insane but the worst part is that I barely played any of them because all I played was sports games including wrestling. Some of the classic RPG's I never beat, some of the greatest of all time, I never beat. All because of sports games and for SNES, honestly, Tetris 2 as well since I was addicted to playing that as well.

Since I quit sports games with Madden NFL 13, everyone here can easily surpass me as I haven't played a single sports game since but in all the years starting with NES, maybe I haven't played more than anyone else but I can guarantee that I would be single digit close and if I actually went through lists of all sports games since NES, I know for sure that im missing a good amount as I just don't remember them.

But hey, if someone has played more sports games than me and actually lists them, I would love to read it as im sure I'll come across games that I missed. And by the way, these aren't just played...they're ALL completed. Whatever the season was full 82, 162, whatever, from start to finish, they were ALL completed. Seriously, sports games all those years were pretty much all I ever freaking played. It was insane and if anything, took me way too many generations to stop and quit.

I agree that stuff should be in there in addition to the Longshot earlier years mode but the earlier years (high school, college) is something we are seeing more of in these games now because it differentiates the story mode from the regular game mode of being a pro.

I actually love the idea of grade school, high school and college. Where I think they went wrong with Longshot was (from what I've read anyways) the idea that you're really not playing any of those games and just will have cut scenes and maybe control a play or two here or there.

I say make it a full mode where you play like maybe 5 games in grade school, 10 games (senior season) in high school and a full season in college. That would have, in my opinion, been VERY interesting.

However, maybe we will get that down the road if this mode does well. Many people, like yourself, think that it won't and if that's the case then it will go away. But I do think it will do well, FIFA and other games have really sold much better when they've added this sort of mode.

If history is any indicator, as much as Longshot is hated here and other sports games sites, it's going to be a huge deal for Madden and it's sales.
