Adventures in making old games work:
I guess with the hype of Episode VII I decide to install my copies of KOTOR I (never finished) & II (wanted to see restored content) as well as finally buy Republic Commando on Steam.
KOTOR II was fine since it got that big Steam update earlier this year which included workshop support. Pretty nice being able to just click on subscribe and have all the content installed, and I assume the update this year also included wide screen support.
Republic Commando ended up being an easy case of swapping mod files to get a wide screen resolution and an FOV slider. Oddly enough, the mouse is a mess to use in menus and just jumps all over the place. It seems to be fine for actually aiming in game though.
KOTOR I was much more involved. I had to download a no-cd crack of the .exe to replace the one from Steam so I could run a wide screen patcher. I also had to edit the patch file for the patcher so that in-game movies would play. After that I had to edit in my resolution in the .ini file. Thought I had it all sorted, but the game screen would shift down and to the right when I had it running in 1920x1080. My PC runs to a TV as well as a monitor and it turns out the game didn't like running in widescreen on the TV, but is fine on the computer monitor.
Fun times.
