Re: OS Steam and Computer Gaming Thread
Hey guys. I have a Xbox One (Which I use mainly for streaming media), a PS4 (For gaming) and a WiiU (Almost never touch it.
I love how I can get games on steam for dirt cheap compared to consoles and would like to build my own Steam Machine.
MY PC mainly boils down to this, although I am probably missing some important specs.
-Intel Core i5
-2500 CPU @ 3300 GHz
-8GB Ram
-NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570
-1TB HDD
I want to be able to play games like Civ 5, FIFA 16, and Fallout 4 on high settings.
Is switching to SSD 'good enough' for better load times/gameplay lag free or should I switch other components? If you could suggest a decent case, etc would be great too.
If so, any suggestions without needing to break the bank?PSN: Peji911Comment

Re: OS Steam and Computer Gaming Thread
FWIW I run those first two games on your list at 1080p and max settings with a similar system to yours (my GPU is slightly better and your processor is significantly better). Civ 5 chugs a bit in the late game at times because of the load on the processor, but other than that it's good. FO4, on the other hand, has much higher requirements and even if I was going to buy it right now, I definitely wouldn't be able to run it at high settings. (I was planning on getting it later on PS4 after a price drop).Hey guys. I have a Xbox One (Which I use mainly for streaming media), a PS4 (For gaming) and a WiiU (Almost never touch it.

I'll leave the upgrade suggestions to someone else, but if you want to go up to 4k and high settings on all 3 of those you're at least looking at a GPU upgrade IMO. Most likely processor too.Last edited by bcruise; 01-27-2016, 04:50 PM.Comment

Is that just the 2500 or the 2500k?Hey guys. I have a Xbox One (Which I use mainly for streaming media), a PS4 (For gaming) and a WiiU (Almost never touch it.

I currently have the 2500k @ 4.5ghz, 8 GB RAM, GTX 970, and at 1080p I can run most everything as I as I want besides aliasing. CIV 5 I can max out with easy and was able to with my GTX 660 beforehand. Fallout 4 was mostly high with my 660's, with my 970 I think I might be real close to maxing it completely, and I don't have Fifa, but I'd imagine I'd be able to run it perfectly fine.
That's all at 60+ frames for all of those games. I'll lower settings before I play anything below a constant 60(unless it DayZ and getting 40-45 frames consistently is a miracle).
I also just went from a 1TB HDD to a 500GB SSD and I love how fast everything is now. Booting up my PC takes like 12 seconds to get into windows 10 and on the desktop ready to go. Games load ridiculously quick and there are never any hitches or stutters from struggling to stream in assets in any game.“No one is more hated than he who speaks the truth.”

Re: OS Steam and Computer Gaming Thread
What is your budget and is that a 2500k? If it's the K model, over clock it and add a 970 + SSD (for faster loading times/overall quality enhancement). If that's not the 2500k you probably need a new processor as well.

Re: OS Steam and Computer Gaming Thread
Thanks Guys.
With the low Canadian dollar, right now isn't the time to completely overhaul my PC but will definitely look into adding the SSD and GPU.
Anyone suggest a nice little case/peripherals for the smallest build possible in order to use it on the TV as a 'console'?PSN: Peji911Comment

Re: OS Steam and Computer Gaming Thread
What kind of mobo are you going to use, because that will determine your case. Mini-ITX might be small enough for your build, but you will need one big enough to fit a powersupply which will be able to power your video card. Thanks Guys.

Re: OS Steam and Computer Gaming Thread
CPU: Intel Core i5 2500 (Socket 1155 LGA)
Motherboard: Asustek P8P67 REV 3.1 (Sandy Bridge)
Memory: 8GB DDR3
GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 570
Also, come to think of it, I dont really need a super small case so long as it's easily movable from my desk to my TV when neededPSN: Peji911Comment

Re: OS Steam and Computer Gaming Thread
Ok, your motherboard is a standard ATX so you will be somewhat limited in how small you can go. I believe there are a couple HTPC cases which will hold an ATX mobo, such as this Silverstone for example http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811163257 this should fit your video card and power supply BUT I'm not very knowledgeable on HTPC cases so someone like WTF or Capt might know a little more on what would be the best route to go. I tend to stick to mid-size ATX in this case, just because I like the airflow of a case that size.Comment
