After owning the Xbox and Xbox 360, I think I'm ready to make the move back to Sony and the Ps4. It will be fresh, new and exciting. And honestly looks like the better GAMING console of the two.

My only worry is the EA thing they talked about yesterday for the One. I read snippets but not in full detail. Does this mean the Ps4 will have different versions the EA sports games?

No, they will just have exclusive content from what I have gathered. I would imagine some MUT stuff.

And its already been confirmed that all the announced game will release for both systems. So no worries there.

I read somewhere that the PS4 will allocate 7 GB of RAM towards games, compared to the XBOX1 allocating 4 or 5 GB of RAM towards games.

If accurate, what does this mean for multi-platform games like the annual sports titles that are released? Will the PS4 games just be able to process everything quicker due to the memory allocation, or will it just allocate the the same amount of RAM as the XBOX1 for those particular games? I assume that just the Sony exclusives will be able to take advantage of the extra RAM?

No... Even though the conference yesterday made it seem like Fifa Ultimate Team would be an XboxOne exclusive... It seems now that isn't the case, Fifa Ultimate Team will also be on Fifa 14 for PS4, just some content will be released to xbox exclusively... Which with ultimate team would be what? A couple of more cards that could be available - There will be no difference in games across the board, it may come down to the fact you can pay $3.99 for a retro uniform pack for Madden on XboxOne within the first 2 months before it's available for PS4..

The fear I have is that 3rd party games will be developed using the lesser specs, as the market wouldnt accept game prices to be the same if the quality gap between the consoles version was greater than what it was for the 360/PS3 (marginal, at least to me) ... in sum, we might not get a glimpse of the PS4 true powers, unless it is through its 1st parties.

I also have the concern that both companies might not have learned from past mistakes and these new consoles, may not be able to handle so much power, therefor resulting in new versions of RROD & YROD, thus hopefully not.

Finally, the difference in architecture may very well eat whatever pricing gap there was vs ONE and its side features, so I dont have many hopes of having a less pricy PS4 (but one cant stop dreaming).

Anyways, looking forward to E3 and the months to come.

I don't know. The reason PS3 and third party developers didn't take advantage of the PS3 power was that the cell processor was hard to develop on so developers didn't waste time making a powerful game and then redevelop.

The PS4 it's pretty evident by all reports that Developers were one of the biggest concerns with the new consoles and the developers love PS4 because it's easy. And I absolutely think the market can handle the price gap or perceived price gap because the market will migrate to the console where they get the most bang for their buck.

In other words : If Sony has the Developers behind them as what's been led on so far, then developers can easily create for the PS4, port (or compress graphics) over to Xbox One - Sell the games for the $50-$60 it cost with no issue. Doesn't affect them.

The only person it affects is the console owner.. If they think it's ridiculous that they're paying the same $60 for a less spectacular looking game on their console compared to another console, then they will either have to deal with it or move to the console that consistently gives a better product for the same price. I think that's the foundation of Sony's strategy in this Next Gen is to make it a gaming machine that developers love to develop for which is going to naturally move gamers over to the console - That's where I can see this going now after the Xbox One reveal granted Sony doesn't blow it and get in their own way at this point.

It's definitely a moment that Sony could really take advantage of given yesterday's average response to Xbox One's reveal. They have the opportunity to widen the gap going into E3, at E3, and into Launch.

It was interesting that while the Xbox One has the slower memory it added some SRAM separately that could even out the memory differences...

IMO in the end it'll be a wash with each version being 99% the same....None of these differences are like 360 vs. WiiU or something that drastic.

                  Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion

Some had no trouble making some WiiU games look better than PS3/360. There will basically be four types of multiplatform games:

Samesies. Just like this gen, there will be developers whose main concern is getting the same experience from both consoles. These will be the closest versions.

Lazies. Developers who are too lazy to try and take advantage of the extra power, and these games would probably be mediocre anyway so it doesn't matter much. These will likely be all over the place, but should have fewer issues on the faster platform.

Besties. Those who look to give each console the best game they can deliver. Faster platform will be markedly better.

Porties. These are solid developers that set a lead platform and do direct ports to everywhere else. Games will look mostly the same, but probably have some slight advantages in framerate, antialiasing, and possibly more advanced shading or lighting on the faster platform.

That's all mostly what we see now with the 360 and PS3, only the gap will be wider in the coming gen.

I think for multi-platform games, just like this generation, developers will use which system is easier for them to handle and then port over to the other. I'm not sure that system power will come into play except for certain instances when porting ("oh we have to trim that because such and such reason"). Both systems look very similar in terms of power.

After reading that article it appears the PS4 has a slightly upper-hand for gaming. For selfish reasons, I'm hoping developers use the PS4 as their development platform, only because last generation we got a lot of inferior ports due to the 360 being used in that vein. Furthermore I anticipate owning a PS4 and remain uncertain about the X1, again selfish reasons (sorry XBOX fans).

One of my biggest concerns is the manufacturing process itself: will both systems have proper ventilation and cooling this generation? I hope they learn from their mistakes. My slim PS3 runs pretty hot and I'm fairly certain that causes it to brick every now and then. I can't always tell if it is a hardware or software problem, though. I can build a PC that runs without issues, I don't see why these companies can't do the same. Is it a matter of cost-cutting or oversight?

A really big concern for me, given that I come from 3 RROD and currently have my PS3 being fixed due to it shooting down without any imput and not being able to load the system more recently ... hopefully we get much, much better consoles from that standpoint, specially when considering the range of speculated prices.

That's not really a big concern to me. I guess I should say, it's not a concern at all.

I've got a PS3 from 2007 that is still working fine for me. No issues loading games, not issues with sound or video.

I just take the lid off every couple months and clean it out.

Yeah, my launch PS3 lasted all the way up until last September. And that included many of trips stored in my backpack.

The quality of the PS4 will not be a concern for me.
