Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
I just don't believe there's enough people using the optical port that Sony looked at it as a come up.
"We can get all the people who need the optical port to spend $200 extra."
Its just cartoonish to me, doesn't make any sense. Seriously, this isn't HDMI or the wireless adapter or something a vast majority of users use. It's an optical port. You think the portion of people using the optical port is significant enough that Sony is deciding to risk those sales? I just don't buy that. It's much more plausible that a small minority uses it, and if it upsets them then they'll have to figure out a way to deal with it. Sony trying to milk extra out of their customers with an optical port just isn't realistic. What, are they going to go and make sure there aren't any used original consoles on the market? People who need optical ports can buy used original models for probably the same amount or less than the Slim. Seems like much ado about nothing IMO.Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
Exaaaaaaaaaactly. Sony tracks data for EVERYTHING. If the majority used the optical port it would still be there. I'm going to go out on a limb here and just assume Sony probably has more statistics to back up these decisions than we do.
NY, I truly think you struggle to grasp the casual (and massive majority) consumer. They don't use external hard drives and they don't use $300 headsets. They just don't. And, if they're just NOW buying a PS4, they're very obviously not hardcore gamers.
You're just wrong on this one. Period. Sometimes you just have to accept that and move on. Opinions are fine, but to repeatedly and relentlessly state them as facts and argue with everyone all the time is tiring, to say the least.Last edited by DickDalewood; 08-31-2016, 11:27 AM.Comment

My PS4 and PC are all hooked up to my 27" monitor stream station. My PC runs a Sound Blaster Z sound card which features an optical IN & optical OUT. So the PS4 optical jack shoots the sound signal to the PC so it can then be sent via my AKG Headphones or pushed out via the Optical OUT to my home theater surround sound system. This means if I bought a slim, my PS4 would forever be on mute which to me = no buy. So while I agree with you, you would be surprised I think at how many people use the PS4 in a PC type setup. Living room systems are the norm but surely don't account for all sales.Comment

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
I was turned off by hearing the slim wouldn't have the optical port but the kicker for me too is I do not like it's look at all. It looks like a cheap toy to me.
I'll wait for the Neo and hope it has a better design.

Journey is one of the GOAT gaming experiences, ever.
Good stuff on the PS3 side, been wanting to try Datura after playing Linger in Shadows back in the day, and forgot all about it until now. Their most recent, Bound, is fantastic.

I agree but how my PS4 is utilized I HAVE to use the optical.

Really good lineup. Lords of the Fallen is a very good 'Souls Clone' I have been meaning to try.
