    Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion

The XBOX ONE S has SATA 3 but the fact you cant put your own SSD in it makes it irrelevant.

The PS4 PRO has SATA 3 and that will allow stock hard drives to go from 3.0gbp to 6.0 and if you have an SSD it will allow your games to load even faster.

That is a plus for sure as I have a Samsung SSD 512 gb but it would be hard to justify removing the stock 1tb to get half the size if I already know am getting a small bump in load times over stock ps4

A samsung 1tb SSD is going to cost like $300

As for me, I'm mostly concerned that a lot of the NEWER games support the Pro out of the box, not the older games per se.

What do you mean not the older games? We know that all games going forward will have Pro versions and will scale down to base ps4

Older games need patches and not all devs will use them as it cost money to do these things after the fact.

The Witcher 3 already said they are not doing it. A few games will and my PS4 PRO purchase is with the mind of future games coming this year and next year.

As long as the PRO offers me a better 2K experience from games I already have I am good. Madden will next year and I read that Tifan Fall 2 and BF1 will get bumps as well

Well what I mean is I want older games too but I would hope to see the vast majority of new games having a Pro version. If it's 1 in 10 new games that support the Pro, such as only Call of Duty and big titles then I will be disappointed

I'm probably worrying too much, like JB said.

You could game share with yourself. Create a new account, and sign in with it, but make sure the console is set as your old ids primary console. You then have access to games on both accounts. Keep in mind, though, that you need to stay connected to the Internet in order to play games that you buy with your new id. You also can only have one primary per account so if you have multiple consoles in your house, you'd be out of luck on all but one of them.

Games on the Pro and the ones that get patches have to be 1080p minimum (according to the leaked documents earlier this year). Take a game like Battlefield 1, which is getting a Pro patch and currently uses dynamic resolution scaling. That will be 1080p on the Pro, as well as have a 4K checkerboard mode. It will probably also have a more stable frame rate.

We just don't have a clear picture of what exactly everyone is doing. Going forward, I think the separate modes like Rise of the Tomb Raider has and Mass Effect Andromeda is another with "high quality graphics" at 1080p will become more of the norm.

Source for Mass Effect Andromeda if anyone is wondering:

"Super-sampling again is very popular for HDTV support. Mass Effect Andromeda has two very different strategies. They have checkerboard for 4K and they have a separate mode for high quality graphics at 1080p."

No dont worry about that. All games coming out when PRO is out will have PRO versions and those with ps4 stock will get same games but using the lower end GPU of the two that it has

What does everyone think about paying 400 in 2013 for a console only to have a more powerful version of the same system a few years later? Will you be more hesitant to buy the next generation of consoles at launch knowing there will be a more powerful version at some point?

Where is your source of this? You say ALL games and the way the article reads from the developer posted a few pages ago doesn't reassure this. Not sure how you can make this statement without it being a guess.

Is common sense, I would not take anything written by CNET about consoles serious but he mentioned games need to be patched and those are games already out

Sony not releasing a PRO console to play games exactly as their base ps4 with the hopes some developer uses higher end gpu

He wrote that Cerny stated most games will take advantage of the Pro which is now the default status for game developers going forward

I could care less about games that are out already. I want games coming once PRO is out to be awesome and better then what we had with base model

Those games will take advantage of the PRO

For some reason I had hoped that they would release the platinum headset same day as the Pro. Guess that isn't in the cards. Oh well, just a few days difference.

It's the same thing with phones but the iPhone cost twice as much. I'm getting the Pro and I'll get the PS5 when it comes out.

I understand what your saying but a videogame console is not a smartphone part of owning a console is you never had to worry about stuff like this that's what computer gaming is for. Also I'm not the type a person to update my phone every year I just feel that when a company released a game system and calls it there next iteration of there game console and charges you 400 dollars it shouldn't release a new game system that's more powerful unless there calling it ps5.

Ultimately everyone's got to make their decision given the circumstances, but if I had more time it's absolutely not a problem for me. Given less time, I opted to stay with a single ecosystem once the One S released (Xbox/PC) and plan to be back for the PS5.

Now if that console hits with no backwards compatibility, high price, standard launch library, etc. Eh, might be a harder decision to pull the trigger day 1. Those factors contribute to why I haven't owned a quality Nintendo console since the SNES. An apparent software reset going into the Switch will have me on the sidelines for that launch most likely.

I'd prefer the option to upgrade and a faster release tempo, if the software is there and the advancements are worthwhile. The key with these most recent releases is they're an option for the most part.

I guess I just worry that if a consumer supports a business model like this then we are giving the companies the ok not to give us the best product they can the first time around just to charge us more for an updated system later on.
