Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
Not entirely happy about the possibility of not being able to play my PSN games on the PS4. But, it makes sense if the system isn't backwards compatible.
That just means I will have to finish BioShock 2 and InFamous 2 (both PSN bought games) before I switch over. And GTA V."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
Just keep your PS3 as an extra blu-ray player. Also, there are probably still new PS3 games in development that won't be released on the PS4. Look at Ni No Kuni...a huge, blockbuster PS3 exclusive that released the same year as the PS4. Sony's very own Naughty Dog is doing the same thing by releasing Last of Us right before E3.Comment

But I plan to sell my PS3 toward the purchase of a PS4. I wouldn't need two Blu-ray players."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
Just so you know, I spent 1,200 on mine and I got 7850 crossfire and run BF3 ultra at 100 FPS.. so its not 2-3k.
Also, for us that spend that much, we get rewarded by PC being superior, which we deserve.Comment

Cant wait to pick up Watch Dogs on pc.
And yeah picking up 3-4 games for pennies on the dollar during STEAM sales is nice also.
Anyways I really hope developers deliver some AI improvements this coming gen.Joshua:

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
Digital Foundry Analysis
At the PlayStation Meeting yesterday, Sony revealed that its new console ships with 8GB of GDDR5 RAM, not the 4GB we previously reported. It was a pleasant surprise not just for us, but also for many game developers out there working on PS4 titles now and completely unaware of the upgrade - a final flourish to the design seemingly added in at the last moment to make PlayStation 4 the most technologically advanced games console of the next gaming era.
From an engineering perspective, it's a remarkable achievement. Sony itself doesn't fabricate memory, it buys from major suppliers who advertise the parts available months (sometimes years) ahead of delivery, so we have a decent idea of what options the platform holders have on the table in creating their next-gen systems. The GDDR5 memory modules - the same used in PC graphics cards - are only available in certain configurations, with the densest option available offering 512MB per module. The startling reality is that unless Sony has somehow got access to a larger chip that isn't yet in mass production and that nobody knows about, it has crammed 16 memory modules onto its PS4 motherboard. To illustrate the extent of the achievement, Nvidia's $1000 graphics card - the GeForce Titan - offers "just" 6GB of onboard GDDR5.What shouldn't be understated is the amount of extra cash this is going to add to PlayStation 4's BOM (bill of materials) - this is an expensive, massive investment for the company. So what does this mean for Sony and for next-gen gaming in general? First up, unless Microsoft has radically upgraded its graphics and memory configuration for Durango in the last nine months (an engineering nightmare unlikely to happen - it can't really add more chips as Sony has done), the PlayStation makers have less to worry about in terms of any direct hardware comparisons with their competition. GDDR5 latency is higher than DDR3 but the bandwidth advantage is substantial, while confirmation of the impressive Radeon graphics core puts to bed the era of PS3 developers struggling with sub-par GPU hardware. However, more importantly, many developers attest that it's the amount of RAM available that defines the longevity of a fixed platform. Historically, a console generation is typically defined by a 6-8x increase in technological power - both Microsoft and Sony have pushed the boat out with a 16x boost to system RAM over their current-gen predecessors - the strongest indication of any that these new machines are built to last.there's a sense that the power is there, that we've only seen the vaguest of hints of what it's truly capable of - and that it'll take time for game-makers to fully understand quite what to do with the new tools they have available. However, from what was shown last night the slightly worrying reality is that in the short term we're looking at games and demos either already running on PC, or with equivalents available now that simply look better.
Of course, it's early days yet: Sony may well be keeping its powder dry for a more fully formed E3 re-reveal - we've yet to see what the likes of Naughty Dog and Sony Santa Monica are doing with the hardware. An extra three months with final dev kits could make a lot of difference...Go Noles!!! >>----->Comment

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
HIGLY doubt this is true
Online retailer ShopTo expects the new PS4 system will retail in the UK for about £400. It is unclear whether this figure is a random guess or if Sony has already met with retailers to offer some guidance.Comment

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter has predicted a $399 or $449 retail price for the PlayStation 4, and suggested the small jump in visual quality will mean only a small jump in development budgets.
"We remain confident that the new console will have a lower initial MSRP than the PS3, which had a lofty starting price of $599 that we believe negatively impacted its longterm popularity."
Price was just one of the details Sony skipped during its presentation, but a few UK sites have started accepting pre-orders at a speculative price of £400.
Pachter also noted that unlike the move from PS2 to PS3, which was a jump from standard definition to HD, the advance in visuals would not have a dramatic effect on development budgets.Comment

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
The rumors are that with the two models, one will be $449ish and one will be $549ish.
Not sure why people would be surprised.. it's no different then when the PS3 came out.--

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
Look back at the actual comment, he is directly referring to the best money can buy. If I want top of the line, AKA the best that is available right now, the graphics card alone costs $1000. On GAF there are people talking about needing 2+ Titans to max out Crysis 3 (2560x1600, 4xSMAA, Max settings), I know those guys are freaks but benchmarking is benchmarking lol.
I see what you mean. I am by no means trying to claim console superiority, I'm well aware that PC's will out-muscle consoles given the flexibility of the hardware and system. All I'm saying is that if price point was equal, a console is stronger since its optimized strictly for gaming.
I understand what you are saying, but the problem is, a PC is way more than a gaming device. It is a lot more useful than a console. If a PC just had gaming and media like Sony and Micrsoft (XBOX), then it would be cheaper to build a PC.Comment
