I'll (most likely) never purchase a Digital PC game. Every PC game I have that I've downloaded Digitally has been free (due to some of Origins mess ups last year). While the deals are great, it's not something that'll pull me to the PC as a full-time PC gamer.

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
Despite the recent actions of MS I won't be switching and I will remain a one console gamer this coming generation (will probably build a PC within the next year or two) with the PS4 being my sole choice. For me this decision is more about what's affected MS' wallet rather than simply bending to the pressure of the public. If it wasn't clear before its certainly clear to me now that the features MS was touting was more like a bait and switch to give themselves more control over the products we buy. The sharing features and similar aspects were great features, but to take them away along with the DRM crap just tells me that wasn't the side they were focused on. Hopefully they come back without the DRM in the future, but after this flip-flopping and nonchalant attitude they've displayed since the Xbone's reveal leaves me not wanting to trust them whatsoever. I realize Sony is a corporation, too, and obviously out for profits, but to me there's a striking difference in how PS4 has presented itself and how Xbone has and for me that is more than enough.
It is a great feeling that the gaming public made a massive corporation change its stance rather than trying to drag people into a draconian future. Considering everything else going on, its just nice to still have some power and sway with bigger entities. Still, I don't trust them and I wouldn't be surprised if they tried slipping the DRM stuff back in in the future. To me, MS lost the battle when it became obvious they thought they knew best and ignored the public for so long trying to PR away all the negatives and try to ridiculously spin themselves into being "forward thinkers." I never got the impression they were really for "us" and I still don't. Its not the way I picture a massive corporation should operate, but I'm happy as hell we affected their $$$ forecasts enough to change their minds.
In light of the changes, MS just looks even more lost and desperately needs something to hang their hats on in order for the $100 gap to make sense. Kinect doesn't do it for me and without the other features they're making the feature gap pretty non-existent between the Xbone and the PS4. I know there's ~5 months until launch, but MS has got to figure out how to not only explain their positioning but to be able to sell their (new) vision. All this flip-flopping and arrogant answering really doesn't help make them look like they know what they're doing.

I used to be on the all physical copys no digital, but I've gotten over that. Maybe since I game on PC and haven't bought a physical copy of game (digital price is much cheaper and you don't have to leave your house) in a few years. Steam really is a wonderful wonderful tool, both for price and convenience.
I do understand wanting to always have physical copies. I guess just not to the point where you wouldn't play video games if you couldn't get a disc and had to download, you wouldn't play.
I think the music industry has helped me get passed it. For the longest time I'd only buy cd's, but that's long since past. Haven't bought a cd in forever.
Edit: not knocking your stance at all. To be clear.

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
MS revived some of the xbox fan in me with their about face. However, I am sticking with the PS4 as my next-gen console of choice. I do give MS props for listening to the consumers, but I love what the PS4 brings to the table. Sony has worked hard to change their image and regain their place as a "gamer's console". I appreciate those efforts and I will support them.Last edited by greenegt; 06-20-2013, 09:22 AM.XBL: Mean Greene

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
Xbox DRM or not didn't really bother me other than pricing on used games - My connection now is pretty stable. And as far as the Kinect goes, I'm not to interested in that but not a huge problem for me. MY wife thought the camera always connected was quite creepy though and not a fan. I actually think the online perks was one thing that XboxOne was different and did have going for them. The friends share, cloud, digital copies etc.. Actually decent qualities that depending I may have purchased XboxOne later in the cycle if some of TV watching apps like HBO GO was not available for PS4 (I'm not sure if it will be or not?)
But the business decisions are just laughable from the get go with those decisions and now doing a complete 180 on it all that I simply can't even think about purchasing one in future - The arrogance followed by the wishy washiness of details and now this flip flop is shaky at best as far as I'm concerned with the business decisions side of things.
None of this made my decision easier, as far as I'm concerned it was EASY once PS4 presented at E3. At that time it was clear their vision and their focus on the gamers. From the used game no DRM policies to the backing and support from indie developers - They put the Gamer/Consumer first from the get go and there was no question about it.
Also, I've had my PS3 Fat 60GB system now from one or two months after launch. Needless to say it's still playing Last of Us from the disc and Ive had no issues. Two of my friends had OG PS3's and just recently one of their disc readers went out (although can still play anything digitally) - I don't know anyone else personally that has had issue with PS3. And I had an OLD OLD PS2 that finally broke before that... Build quality isn't a question as far as I'm concerned with Sony. the Xbox is a totally different story because those two friends have also had a RROD each on their xbox's. And every friend I know with an Xbox has had to return at least one to get it fixed because it RROD. So that's something HUGE for me going into this generation. I like quality and I like a plan for that quality. Sony has show me that personally, and xbox is shaky at best from what I've seen. When I'm paying this type of money I don't want a probable chance that my **** will break. I don't want to waste time dealing with that stuff. Now with Xbox you not only have a suspect design in the past, but now another piece of hardware needed to be connected and never break too.. PS4 for these reasons was the easy choice for me.
I play a lot of sports games. I like the PS3 controllers. And I play sometimes online. Naturally all of those things would be available on Xbox minus the Show of course. So for $100 dollar less for a decently more powerful machine to play those types games and some online - It is still a no brainer for me.
And then things got REAL clear to me. I stopped playing Fifa and download a few games from PS+ that I had missed out on because I was an NCAA/NHL/FiFA and some COD player... And I got that urge to get back into true GAMING.. And with that, for Father's day I got Last of Us. Playing through Last of Us (and my wife being somewhat interested in watching), the choice got EVEN EASIER that PS4 is just going to be a better console overall tech, price, games all considered. I have 5 months to get the INfamous' in and then the Uncharted 2 and 3.. Beyond Etc... Much LESS What will be coming out of PS4 at launch! And playing all of those games remotely on my PSVita (My wife is a supporter and HUGE fan of this)
Quite frankly, PS4's focus, games, whole package is leaps and bounds quality over the XboxOne even with no DRM. In fact I'd say the flip flop from XboxOne widened the gap between the two as far as I'm concerned. I just believe Sony really gets it and have been right on from the get go and will be right on going forward . While PS3 has made it's comeback they learned their lesson then and I think it's paying dividends towards the direction and execution of plan for the PS4 and next gen gaming.
My name is zanner, and I'm ready for the PS4.Last edited by zanner; 06-20-2013, 09:44 AM.Comment

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
The DRM issue wasnt the only thing that made me want to go with the PS4 this time around and the recent changes with MS wont affect my decision. I will now plan on getting a xbone later down the line, but Im riding with Sony for this NextGen. I just think they have built a better gaming machine this time around.Comment

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
I was getting both at launch so didn't matter either way. I just need to stagger the online systems so I'm not paying for LIVE and PSN at same time each year.Joshua:

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
As much as I applaud .... Sony for what they have done thus far, slipping the PS Plus thing under the mat while taking jabs at MS was a little sly. I have no issue with this though, as long as Plus remains generally the same service.
I already have PS Plus and rate it highly.Comment

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
For me personally, if I am going to do all digital I will do that on the pc. I can still mod with Steam games and they have great sales. MLB the Show is about the only non pc game I cannot do without. Streaming on the other hand would be a deal breaker no matter if it were pc or console.Comment

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
Really? So if the generation after Ps4/Xbox 1 goes all digital you won't game? I find that astounding. Just as a gamer, personally I can't ever see myself letting the media type dictate whether or not I play.

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
I don't have a lot of concern over things going digital. I have been a console gamer 95% of my life, mainly on Playstation, I got into PC gaming last year and I was amazed by the sheer ease to be able to press 'Buy' and be done with it. Ok.. So downloading can be a pain, but I work full time as many here most likely do, so being able to have something there and then is very convenient. Not having to wait until I have free time to pop down to the store or wait for it to be delivered. Digital has its flaws, such as reliability, etc..
To each his own, I can 100% understand what bigbob is saying, especially when you still have that game a decade later and no one else does.Comment

I'm still deciding PS4 vs. Xbox One though.
I want to hear more about PS4 and PSN, but I prefer Xbox Live and the Kinect/Entertainment aspect (I feel my wife would enjoy the kinect TV experience).
The change makes both systems an option though, prior I don't think the Xbox was a great option with the major negatives.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

I've stated multiple times in multiple threads that I'm a collector. If I can't collect something, I'm not going to buy it (video game related). If I'm going to buy a console and have no physical copy of the game, there's no point in me getting it.
If I can't hold it in my hand, there's no point in me having it.. because I know it's ALWAYS going to be there because it's in my hand.
