I'm actually the opposite, neither of my consoles are noticeably loud. Outside of the Rocket League pre-patch fan throttle bug.

Unfortunately i can't trade in the console cause the stores around here don't buy used consoles.

Buying another one is currently out of my reach, with these prices going up like crazy. Selling it to another person would not really be ideal, cause if the console indeed have a problem, it would be dishonest to sell it that way.
The console has no problem. It is just the paste they used causes this issue. I am certain that many with launch consoles will eventually have to change but we will see

Does this mean you're NASA or you just love fixing PS4's?

        I'll accept either.

I've noticed on some games the fan gets faster and louder than with other games. Call of Duty Black Ops 3 for instance almost turns my PS4 into a jet engine. Whereas NHL 16 my PS4 is pretty much quiet.

              Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion

I have the newer console model and I don't hear the fan at all and it barely gets warm and this is over the past week playing Dying Light in which I played 12+ hours two days straight and left the game on pause for about an hour to take a break and eat dinner.

Funny thing is that when I was playing ROTTR on Xbox One, it actually makes more noise and runs hotter than my new PS4 does. Sometimes, I think that it has to do with the games as opposed to the console because I don't remember the Xbox One doing that when I was playing Ryse: Son of Rome.

Anyway, it definitely sucks and my suggestion would be to either get a cooling fan for the back of the PS4 or to take advantage of GameStop's $200 trade in value and buy a new one. The current PS4 I have is the Uncharted bundle from GameStop. Before that, the console was making this weird clicking sound when turned OFF but plugged in. That crap annoyed the hell out of me. Hell, I was hearing clicking sounds in my sleep even after I unplugged the console. That's how bad it was.

I have a launch console and haven't had any problems. I also have a launch PS3 20gb and it still works.

I also see people say jet fan noise and I wonder how loud it really gets. Is it in an open environment? What temperature do you keep the room the PS4 is in? Buy a fan and point it at the PS4 and see if that helps if you're that worried.

What happens to my console (and unfortunately, with many others) is worrisome because the fans are working at full speed, and the system is being forced.

After some time, it may (most certainly will) have a problem.

It's not true that Sony never had issues with the durability of their systems (PS1 had tons of faulty drives, PS2s had the same problem in a smaller scale, PS3 had the YLOD...), but that's not really the case here. After seeing an open PS4, i think i know why so many systems have the same problem with the fan. Yeah, one single fan that sits over the GPU. The system is really cluttered, with almost no space, one single fan and internal power brick.

Some people told me i should apply thermal paste, but I'm afraid of doing that.

I'm really happy for all you guys who didn't have a single problem with your systems, but it's just not the case for me and for many others.

I play video games since 89, and this is the first time i feel genuinely afraid if playing some games.

I have never been a PC guy but I know what it is like to have issues with consoles. I got the YLOD on one ps3. Had 2 gamecubes that just stopped reading disk and I think my 3erd one is starting to have that issue now. Also had issues with my wii from the first day I got it even though it was not a day 1 wii as I got it like 2 years after it came out. I am not saying that sony has never had any issues but nothing big. Ps3 had a failure rate of like 5%. They have never had a issue even close to xbox 360 and the red ring of death. I have yet to hear one over heating issue with ps4. I have heard of some auto eject issues and some other issues but not over heating. My first ps3 sounded way louder then my ps4 does and yes it did get the YLOD but that was after like 2.5 years. Yeah I know that is not long but it also happened on a night after only playing for like 20 minutes. You wouldn't think something would over heat after only 20 minutes. So my point is things can happened.

I think some of it is just luck. I don't play systems on the floor or where it cant get air or any thing like that yet I have had sever systems break on me over the years from ps3 to game cube yet my SNES still works all of these years latter.

When it comes to the sound and the fan if I where to rate how loud the fan is on a scale of 1-10 with 1 being no noise and 10 being really loud I would say first ps3 10,slim ps3 1 and ps4 3.

My PS4 gets crazy loud sometimes, but it usually calms back down after a minute or so. It's been doing this pretty much since I've had it, and I got mine at launch. I'm not really sweating it. I'm still under warranty until November and if it dies after that, I'll worry about it then.

That being said, I haven't really heard much about failures this generation. 360 didn't get it together until the elites came out; I replaced more consoles than I should have. Microsoft is lucky that PS3 online was so horrible. I think a lot of people would've jumped ship sooner if not for that.

SMITE PS4 alpha. Fun times for a MOBA like that to be on consoles. It transitioned well.

Sign-up here if you haven't and want to http://www.smitegame.com/ps4-beta/

You get 2 keys, one for you and one for a friend. Would be fun to get some OS peoples playing. It controls somewhat like a third-person shooter.

My most anticipated game this year.

In the game, randomly-placed astronauts isolated from one another by millions of lightyears must find their own existential purpose as they traverse a galaxy of 18,446,744,073,709,551,616 unique planets.
Anyone know how to say this many number of planets that we can visit?
