    Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion

I got a 50 inch hdtv. Could have gotten a 4k for a little more, but My friend has one and it looks like a soap opera. Red 2 looked like a b movie. I learned recently you can turn that motion thing off. I'm sitting here like, "Did I make a mistake?" I don't really mind though. My picture is beautiful as it is and Cable is still 1080 i. Plus the hdmi 2.0 isn't compatible with old hdmi or something? It's confusing. In the future I may jump on it.
But if the ps4 comes up with a better system with upgraded parts where you have to upgrade to play new games. I'd be sour. This was the first gen that I went day one. Plus it would be like a slap to the face for the millions who got one. Also, if they did push out an upgraded system. How many people would wait to get a ps5 thinking I'll just wait until the better one comes out? That would lose them a lot of money.

This PS4.5 thing is so stupid it actually reminds me of the SEGA 32-X.

If Sony releases this thing, i hope they go bankrupt.

Yeah I don't think at the asking price from Sony many people are going to jump on this at all. IMO 4k is just a gimmick , Sony may have a fail on there hands with this.

        We shall see

I think Sony should be concentrating on some more good quality first Party games instead.

I was going to get a new P4 FOR THE SHOW again cause I love BB, but I'm holding off right now.

You can get very nice sets for less than $1k already, 4k isn't the next 3D.

I do agree with him that they should focus on pumping out exclusives moreso than another console for a resolution jump.

They already have issues with 60fps at 1080p

This isnt really defensible and 4k is not a priority

I would be out if they push a 4K system and games designed for it. Not buying another PS4 strictly for a TV I don't even own. They need to tread lightly here.

I'm also in the boat of 4K is the new 3D right now. Just more buzz words and buzz technology.

4K won't do what HD did in the sense that people won't be upgrading from HD-UHD as they did from SD-HD, but it's also here to stay. It's not like we're "going backwards" any time soon. They'll just pump out televisions with that resolution ability.

The thing that might falter though is 4K Blu-ray. OLED also might be too expensive to mass-produce by every company as well, unfortunately. But this still isn't what 3D is... though I think 3D is here to stay as well.

4K is overall just too expensive for the average consumer. I myself won't buy anything like a 4K TV unless it's 70+ inches, or Samsung jumps into the market in a big bad way. That's just where the benefits lie. Otherwise, I'll be perfectly content with my 60" plasma for now and continue to upgrade my audio equipment all the meanwhile.

The PS4.5 does not appeal to me one bit, and IMO is a bad move by Sony.

I still have a feeling it's what I've been seeing others saying, that this PS4.5 is just an updated console with the VR processing unit built in instead of having it on the side. Who knows though.

To further make my earlier point:

50" LG for $800 and a $300 Dell Gift Card
                      49" Sceptre $300
                      55" LG $697
                      55" Sony for $949
                      48" Samsung refurb $500
                      55" Hitachi $598

This is all in the last week or so, and this is just St. Patty's

I don't see a 4.5 happening, not worth shipping the VR components in every PS4 sold IMO, unnecessary increase in costs and Sony's been a lot better about this this generation (including making a profit day 1 w/ the PSVR). It's not a way to boost Sony's TV business either, since they're still more of a 'premium' brand and the price floor has already been set and re-set by more aggressive brands.

Only some kind of flexible modular thing could I really see working, and the systems this gen weren't built for that (ie more CPU/GPU overhead to improve performance for both games and the OS, but not actually required for any titles).

The only thing I could see being floated to devs at this point are trial balloons for the PS5.

4K is not the new 3D. 3D is a dead tech that most big companies will remove from their tv's going forward

4K is the progression of high definition from when we had tube 480p to HD 720p to full hd 1080p

4K is going to be in most peoples houses within 5 years and standard blu rays will be out the door and uhd blu rays will be the norm as well as most new content on streaming sites

                        4K will be huge

There is zero chance that sony releases a new console this gen for 4K gaming. Not going to happen because that would cost a lot of money and Sony has zero need to with the way they are selling ps4

What sony 4.5 will be is just the slim version which will only have updated streaming capabilities for 4K video like netflix and amzon etc etc.

They might even allow uhd blu rays to play on it but for gaming it will do zero

Not even the next gen consoles will be 4K. I think we are looking at 2K 30fps to 60fps on next gen consoles

So no need to worry there

4K tv's are getting very cheap. You can have a nice sony one for under a 1000 easily

This is just an unnecessary thing though. What if you aren't looking for a new tv?

I'm not trying to buy another tv just because. There is no normal tv content in 4k, which simply makes it not that needed right now. No way I need to spend a grand or even 800 for a brand new tv to play a videogame on a system which I already have, that would cost me another 600 to add extras.

Really, there is little justification to the general public beyond some enthusiast stuff right now. Even if 3D is done, this could be as weak popularity wise as all of the move/kinect stuff.

Actually, I could see a slim PS4 being a minor revision that supports 4k video content and improve on whatever hardware limitations that are in place that only expected the console to stream to Twitch/the Vita.

Nothing more though, 4k gaming isn't coming this generation, I'd be happy with just more consistent 1080p/60fps content next gen too. That'd largely be a step up all around this gen w/ no sign of improving as graphics are pushed more than performance.

Even if all of it happened, nothing is going to be 4k exclusive, our 'old' 1080p sets will work just fine.

I really don't see the average consumer pushing into 4K any time soon - much less people wanting to start replacing their blu-ray library OR increase their bandwidth to support 4K streaming (whenever that is implemented).

Personally, I don't even care how great the graphics look now. I just want a good selection of games and this gen's offering is still shallow with a horizon that is pretty bleak apart from a handful of titles. I have put more time into my PS3 that I bought the Holidays after my PS4 launch than I have my PS4. If it wasn't for The Witcher 3 the gap would be even wider.

I just want fun, fresh, and entertaining games. The latest iteration of AAA Franchise Yearly Release gets redundant as the industry chases after the very things that absolutely grinds my gears.

If people want to jump on new tech more power to them, but I see no reason to jump into new hardware when this gen hasn't even gotten off the launch pad yet.
