      No.

There will only be one version of the game. People on NEO may have some performance boosts and/or graphical enhancements, but that will vary from title to title.

That's how I understand it, at least

Ok. I'm guessing first party titles will see this difference and titles on multiple systems will probably see very little difference.

Depends on the difference and the how easy it is to add it.

Yeah, there will probably be something on the disc that recognizes which system you are on, and plays accordingly. Or it'll be like PC, where you have the ability to adjust the graphical settings within the game.

Will be interesting to see the difference in graphics early on. The cynic in me suspects that Sony will want sports developers to stagnate the graphic quality from year to year on the vanilla version, and only improve the NEO version. So it'll be less a case of the NEO version improving by leaps and bounds, and more a case of the vanilla version being purposely muted.

So you'll get better graphics in general with the NEo or do you need the 4K tv to go along with it ?

Here is the lead developer of No Man's Sky talking about what the NEO could mean for NMS, for example.

I guess my main concern is if I buy 2k17 for my PS4 in September and then the Neo comes out in say October for example would I have to wait until 2k18 to see an upgrade on the NEO or would Sony make 2k patch a NEO version of 2k17.

You may not see graphical upgrades just a clearer picture and maybe better colors . It would be cool if Devs released a patch for games like 2k to utilize some of the better processing and HDR on these systems .

I'm sure this has been answered, but I couldn't seem to find it. For HDR do you need a TV that is capable of HDR as well?

To my knowledge, you'll still just be buying PS4 games, regardless of owning a PS4 or a Neo. If you do own the Neo, you'll simply see the game perform slightly better based on the hardware running it.

I would highly doubt Sony and developers are going to confuse and divide the fanbase by forcing them to purchase specific versions of their games. Like a PC game, the title would simply detect better hardware and increase performance accordingly.

Yep. I believe Sony already stated there is 1 game disk/version and simply put the game would have added stuff (or whatever you want to call it) the NEO would take advantage of.

Yeah I think it will be like playing a game on a PC where if you have say a 5 year old PC you can play a game but if you have a 2016 PC instead that same game on it may look and play a little better then on the 5 year old PC.

                                Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion

As of now, all PS4 games that get released starting October 1st and onward are required to have a base version and a Neo version on the disc/digital download. The version that the game will run is based on the which console you have. When the game loads once it's fully installed, the version that you will see and play will be based on which console you're using.

For example, say Mafia III which releases on October 7th runs at 900P/30FPS on the base PS4 and 1080P/60FPS on Neo, the version I will see and play will be based on if I have the base PS4 or Neo. If I have the base PS4, I'll get 900P/30FPS.

Think of it as when the consoles perform a checksum for the games to validate them in regards to region, legality, etc. Same concept and setup. The console you have determines which settings you'll get when playing the game.

As for games released before October 1st, such as Final Fantasy XV which releases on September 30th, they are NOT required to have the base PS4 mode and Neo mode on the disc or digital download. It's strictly up to each individual publisher that owns the IP if they want to release a patch/update in order to include a Neo mode for the console to then analyze and select.

Outside of first party games (Uncharted 4 being the most obvious), I don't really see publishers putting any money, time, resources, etc. into their previously released games unless its a big game. GTA V and perhaps Destiny would probably be the only two older games that I can see their respective publishers releasing a Neo update patch for.

Games that need/should get a Neo update patch is well, pretty damn long. LOL. Publishers will most likely just focus and concentrate on their upcoming and future games unless an older game is big for them.

A few more weeks to go. Will definitely be watching that stream.
