Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
For those of you that have PS Vue....
What are your thoughts on it? I'm thinking of getting rid of my cable and getting Vue...only thing stopping is me is that I can't get MLB Network (which is a main channel of mine) and NBATV/NFLN.
SpoilerYou'd think that a company would allow consumers to pick what channels they want to pay for...I'd pay for like 10-15 channels at $30/month if I can pick any channel I want - I win and I would think the company would get a decent profit being they get more $$ per channel (sort of speak) than "normal".
A couple of my concerns is if there is constant buffering (I use TWC and have a 200/mbps speed) and what type of limitations surround cloud DVR service.
The issue for me was multiple tvs in the home. My PS4 is hard wired in the family room to router so that is rock solid. However, we have a tv in the kitchen, basement, and bedroom and I'd have to get a firestick or another device which would then be on the wireless network. I feared a loss of quality and buffering since the tv in my bedroom is about as far away from the router as it can get in my home.
So, I'd say go for it if you have 1 tv or if your other sets have no issues with wireless signal in your home.

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
The golds are good for $100, but lack punchy bass. I'd get the Astro a50's if money isn't an issue. I own both sets and the Astros sound a lot better and have better surround sound.

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
I have it on 3 tvs with 3 Roku sticks and the quality seems good (20 down 5 up) on all of them for me. Maybe I just haven't watched enough in rooms that are further away with the wireless connection, but I haven't had an issue. Definitely worth giving the trial a shot.Last edited by Brandwin; 08-26-2016, 12:23 PM.Comment

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
Only used the free trial but it was good, especially a hardwired PS4.
Watched it in one of the kids rooms in a far away room on a roku, no problems
I love the menu style and the price points
I also like the fact that the unnecessary channels arent there, it's like the perfect ala carte type service for me.Comment

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
Since money isn't a problem, my next question would be - do you need wireless? Where do you play? Do you play in a room with a TV or at a desk with a monitor?
For the price, Sony's Golds are pretty good value. Biggest problem is going to be their build quality, but they're cheap'ish so there's the trade off.
Astro A50 are bass heavy, closed-back headphones. The soundstage is average to below average. Because of this, they're okay for games, but **** for music. Build quality is pretty good, however. They don't have that all plastic feel like the Golds. Because they're closed, your ears will become warm and your audio will have that cut off feeling.
Astro A40 are, again, bass heavy headphones. However, they are more open than the A50s. Your audio will move a bit more, and your ears should be able to breath a bit better. There's also less of a chance for wireless interference and audio degradation. The A40s sound a little bit better than the A50s. If you don't need wireless, the A40s are better.
Personally, if you want quality, you're better off buying good headphones and attach a mic. Every gaming headset is over-priced. $300 Astros do not deliver $300 sound. There is some value in there as the Mixamp, by itself, is valuable, but the headphones are not great. Keep in mind that since you're probably plugging in the headphones into the controller, you won't want headphones that need an amp. You won't get your moneys worth if you buy a $300 pair of open-back headphones and then plug them into a controller.
Another option would be to buy an Astro Mixamp by itself (you can get an older used one on ebay for around $50 or less) and plug a nice pair of headphones with a mic attachment into it. You'd get the benefit of virtualized surround sound and better mic quality with improved audio quality over the standard Astro headphones. In terms of wires, you would be looking at USB from the Mixamp to the front of the PS4, optical audio out to the Mixamp, and audio cable from your headphones to the front of the mixamp. My attachable mic has a 6ft long cable (https://www.amazon.com/V-MODA-BoomPr...2227000&sr=1-2). I play at a desk, though, so 6ft is more than enough.Comment

We only have 100mbs service and we rarely have issues with it. All of our devices are wireless. One of those devices (Roku 3) couldn't be further away from the router, but it has been rock solid overall.
If you haven't used the trial yet, I would do it. See how your family likes the interface and quality before you dump your provider.Comment

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
Me and the wife cut the cord from cable TV over 6 months now. We current run a combination of **** (HTPC I built) plus PS VUE. This covers current tv, movies, past tv series, and live sports.
We used the PS3 first in the living room hard wired. Yet like commonly mentioned, the PS Vue menu is laggy on it and got frustrating. We then moved the PS4 into the living room hardlined and it worked fantastic. Everything snappy and fast with zero issues. Only problem is I wanted my PS4 back in my man cave
So I recently met the situation in the middle. Amazon Fire TV BOX, not the STICK. It has PS Vue on it, the menus are not ps3 slow and not ps4 fast but everything else works fantastic about it. Plus it has a regular ol tv like remote so the wife likes it more than messing with the PS4 controller.
All in all, screw cable and I'm staying PS Vue as long as they keep their prices down & don't slowly price creep.Last edited by Phobia; 08-26-2016, 05:45 PM.Comment

Only thing I will add is that it is super common to find the Golds on sale for 70ish bucks. I know he said money doesn't matter, though.
If you're willing to go past 100 bucks then get a nice pair of Astros. For the price, I swear by the Golds."Successful people do not celebrate in the adversity or misfortune of others."

I tried cutting the cord for a couple of months. First did sling tv and that was atrocious. The app was horrible, laggy, unresponsive at times and the picture would constantly pixelate no matter how good your internet was. Then tried fire tv with **** and while **** had a lot of content the quality was terrible on the majority of the new stuff and the overwhelming majority of content was 2.0 sound. I also tried PS VUE but got a little turned off with not being able to see many sports, the 720p broadcasting and 2.0 sound. Also, I was paying $60 a month for Internet plus $40 for ps Vue and with cable I'm getting cable and I Internet for $110. So for me it wasn't worth it, but I know people paying $150-$200 for cable alone and that's insane.

If you want quality headphones I say no to the golds. The headband broke in so many spots that I can no longer use them. Sound is great though but I'm not the only one who's had the headband break.

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
I feel I was lucky as mine were sturdy and strong from day 1. Only reason mine broke was because I, uh, "enthusiastically put them down" after a particularly aggravating Overwatch rage session. I know that is pathetic, I am working on it."Successful people do not celebrate in the adversity or misfortune of others."
