"As a one time courtesy we will refund it back to your credit card, you should see it in 3-5 days".

Now first I wasn't happy with that because they should be able to credit it back instantly, but its better than nothing.

Lastly, this being purchased directly from the PS4 is even more concerning. Plus it happened during the "downtime" so how is that even possible? I don't even know where to begin for preventing this from happening again.

Is it possible that someone did it remotely? I mean, taking over your PS4 from another device? Hackers can access computers remotely and turn them into "slave" machines (it's how most of the DDOS attacks are made), being able to operate from another place.

There's already a lot of buzz from hackers (mostly people trying to crack the PS4) about the system's vulnerabilities (there was a "piracy" scheme that used an exploit in the PS Store, for example. It was patched). Maybe someone took control of your system remotely, then made the transactions. Technically, it would have been made by your console, so it would explain this bizarre situation.

Did they elaborate at all on how they knew? It just sounds odd.

Yeah like EG said the grace period with credit cards is normal.

The bizarre thing to me is the bizarre way they've handled it and maybe we as consumers need to do a better job figuring out what is right and wrong as it relates to digital goods, because personally, even if you did buy it, I believe you should be able to refund it just like any physical game. They can go into your account and unlink the game (Valve does this on steam) so it shouldn't be much of an issue.

At Bank currently but I'll answer everything best I can.

          No psn phone app

Never got in psn, started ps4, couldn't get in, turned it off

Purchased - Black ops 3, $5.00 psn wallet, 1.99 overwatch crate, then 75+ episodes of TV shows which were free.

The most annoying thing was how they were speaking to me, fully admitting they believed I purchased them. So I said HOW psn was down and ps4 off! So I told them cancel my subscription which they said I had a year left, so I just told them I will not be renewing. Disgusted with how everything went down

Thats not what a DDOS attack is at all, there is no hacking into computers at all during a ddos attack, it's simply a flooding of servers.

And as mentioned, that turnaround time to get the credit is normal however your bank can and maybe will remove the authorization. That will not stop the charge from ultimately posting but would essentially get you the money back in the mean time.

I was told by Sony if I request the fraud charges via my bank then my account will be locked until I pay back the 79.98. Absolutely insane bad customer service.

What i meant to say is that hackers use other computers to flood the servers, but how they do that? They normally take control of other PCs to do that. Sometimes you don't even know your computer was used in a DDoS attack. They normally use viruses to have access to other people's computers, backdooring anf that kind of thing. I remember when those hackers DDoSed PSN and Live in the end of the year, and a guy on another forum explained how the attacks were being made (he works with online networks).

I'm not saying it was something like this that happened to Phobia, but from what he's saying, it may be one possible explanation

Yea if you go through the bank with a dispute it's a chargeback so the best way is to go through Sony, they'll tell you it takes longer than it usually does, usually just takes a batch or two.

I'm thinking they could see the serial number it was purchased from, he asked me to give him the number but I'm at work so I couldn't corroborate what he had on file.

What was purchased? I know I could get on the PSN store last night from my PS4. Are you sure ou didn't get stuck in some loop while purchasing something and it got stuck in an endless purchase error or something?

I'm reaching for straws here. LOL
I wish that was the case, I never went past the main menu then turned it off, never went near the store.

Never ceases to amaze me how quickly these companies can take money off the card but when you ask them for it back, you've gotta wait, hilarious. But let me try to tell them to wait 3-5 days on a bill, bet my lights go off.

Companies don't get the money instantly either, it takes them the same amount of time as it takes you to get a credit back.

What happens is when the card is authorized the bank deducts the approved amount to make sure you account for it which is why as I suggested above the bank can remove it.

Lmao exactly what I told them, i deal with credit cards. I'm in medical sales and sometimes hospitals will pay via credit card and every so often I must do a return. It literally is as easy to add it back to the cards it is to take it off. Problem is these companies do 3-5 days to give them leeway for them taking their time.

That makes sense. So the bank has the money this entire time, except that Sony has closed that loop by saying if you go to them, we will ban you. So we're back at smh Sony
