All the articles I read had a lot to say about HDR, well my TV is a 4K Ultra but does not support HDR, so I'm thinking will the Pro even look or perform any better then my current PS4? Will the $400.00 price tag be worth it for me.

My Daughter recently bought a Pro and she only has a 1080p TV and she loves it. Says the games run smoother and look better.

So what do Pro owners think? Is it worth it? Game stop opens in 2 hours.....
For me personally, the Pro has been worth the upgrade but I do own a Sony 4K HDR X800D model TV. While the nits are only 350-400, a game like Horizon looked absolutely stunning in 4K CBR and with HDR. I can only imagine how great it looks on a 4K HDR TV that has 1000 nits.

Majority care more about the resolution where as I care a lot more about HDR and the progression of it compared to the resolution. Playing Horizon in 4K with HDR, there's simply no way I could go back to 1080P or playing on a 4K TV without HDR.

Of course, my interests and favoritism is towards HDR a hell of a lot more than 4K and higher resolution. To me, it's HDR that's the game changer. Not the resolution but I know im in the minority.

If you're thinking of getting a 4K TV with HDR this year or next year then better to get the Pro as you would already be set. I know that on a 1080P TV, games are supposed to look better and there's a "lesser version" of HDR on the non-Pro models but since I have been playing on a 4K HDR TV, I can't tell you how good it looks.

If possible, you should watch your daughter play games and see how they look to YOU on a 1080P TV.

I just see Pro/Scorpio as a waste of money if you don't have a good 4K HDR TV because you're losing out on what you're buying the console for. But again, I own a 4K HDR TV, love HDR and can't go back to 1080P.

It's a decision only you can make based on what you think is best for you personally.

Sony is smart not to offer BC. Adds to the cost of the hardware and if you want to play your older games just keep the older consoles. I know some people have space problems in their entertainment units so keeping a number of consoles hooked up is impractical but for me it doesn't matter. I have a few areas for panels to be hooked up.
The PlayStation 3 hasn't decreased in price due to the overpriced Cell processor that's used in the console. I can easily see the PS4 Slim being on sale for $200 this fall/holiday season and eventually hit the $100 mark when PS5 gets released.

For me personally, im not a fan of backwards compatibility as I don't see it as a necessity. When I buy a new generation console, it's more for the future games than the present because for the first two years or so, all the games are cross gen anyway but once that period goes, it's all about playing future games. Plus, I always say that everyone should always keep their hardware.

Me personally, I don't because once I move on from one generation to the next, im simply not going back regardless of what I played or didn't play.

I love my Pro. Absolutely no regrets going with it last fall. The better framerates alone are worth it to me.

I don't know it depends on like what games you think you may want to get or not. Its never to late to get games even if the games are now old when you get a older system you get it for cheaper and more games to pick from and games that are cheaper. Ps4 was 400 when it first came out and around holidays it may be down to 200 and I could maybe see it being 150 by the time ps5 comes out. I am not sure when ps5 will come out. If it comes out in 2019 that would be 3 years from ps4 to ps4 pro and 3 years from pro to ps5. That kind of makes sense and normally you get a new system ever 5-6 years. At the same time I think pro could maybe be a way to get this gen to last longer.

Yeah if you don't have a 4k TV then I don't know how much better games are even going to look. I do think if someone doesn't have a ps4 and wants to get one that you are better off just getting the pro then getting the slim might has while only pay a extra 100 and get the more power. I don't know if you are in the minority or not has I have heard a lot of people say that the HDR makes a big difference. I am not sure like how a game looks in 4k with out HDR compared to the same game with HDR.

I do find backwards compatibility to be overrated because like you said you can always keep your old consoles and continue to play old games and I would never get rid of old consoles and old games as I still have a backlog of old games I am trying to play even though I don't really have enough free time to play and I still like to go back and play old games I have already beaten in the past that I want to beat again from time to time but like I said I do keep my old stuff. The nice thing about having backwards compatibility is that having to keep old systems takes up more room and with backwards compatibility you wouldn't need to keep old stuff so that would give you more room and if you have that then you could trade in your old console for a newer one and save a little bit of money so I would like to have it. More room and saving a little bit of money would be nice. I already have like 9 things with my TV connected SNES, Gamecube, Wii, Wii u, Switch, Ps3, Ps4, cable box, 4k player, and only have 4 HDMI inputs so I already have to like switch stuff out when I want to play. It would be nice for example if I could get rid of my ps3 and get like 50-100 for it and still have a way to play ps3 games on my ps4 or something.

But I don't see honestly a rush to come out with the PS5/next gen. It is not like last couple gens where towards the end, the potential was maxed out where not much they could do. But I feel like there is a lot more they can do with current systems.
So I think we are still at least 4-7 years away. We usually start hearing info a few years out. Plus with Pro(and Xbox 1 X) pretty much updated with current technology(4k). There is no rush until really technology expands much more.
Its kind of funny and interesting if you go by normal standards you get a new console ever 5-6 years. 6 years would mean ps5 by 2019 yet ever one is like saying that they think ps5 is not going to come out for a long time like 2021 or something. Like you for example 4-7 years would be 2021-2024 and 2024 is so far away that if you went by the normal 5-6 years 2024 would be more like ps6 lol. I am not really sure when ps5 may come out. If you go by the normal 5-6 years that would mean ps5 by either next year or 2019 not 2021 or later like ever one tends to be saying. At the same time I have been hearing that tech is not advancing as fast as it used to and so that may be why it takes longer because by 2019 tech may not be that much better then it is now with out a consoles needed to be like 600 or something and I am sure Sony would want to go ps5 for 400-500 in price. At the same time a lot of people complained that ps3/xbox360 gen was to long with ps3 lasting 7 years and xbox360 8 years and if we don't get a ps5 in till 2021 that would be 8 years from ps4 to ps5 so again that would be maybe to long but then again you had the pro in between so that could be a way to maybe have this gen last longer.

Also if we don't get ps5 in till like 2020 or later that would give xboxone x several years being the most powerful console and I don't know if Sony would want to give xbox that long being the most powerful console. At the same time there are still a lot of games coming in 2018 like GOW, Spider-Man and games that may be 2019 like TLOU 2 and that and the fact ps4 sales are not really slowing down much yet makes me think we may not get ps5 in till 2020.

Ps5 all games should be either full 4k or 1800p not checker boarding or any thing like pro and the system should cost 400 and have a big hard drive. ps4 came with a 500 GB hard drive and that is not even close to big enough and games are just going to get bigger and bigger. Also depending on when it comes out maybe have Horizon 2 be a day 1 game. Also be able to play ps4 games on it and games that have like HDR that are ps4 games should be able to do the same if you play it on ps5.

                  PlayStation 4 Discussion

Honest I'm a huge fan of MS and I bought the Pro back in March, best decision, even thought I was buying every games on the Xbox one , but since getting the Pro I have not really touch the Xbox and to be honest, not missing it. Love what Sony offers and just reading a lot of what some site and YouTube videos are saying about the comparisons, I don't think Sony has much to be afraid about at all. I think Sony is still going to hold its own no doubt. Some of the people who think MS is going to crush the Pro are crazy.

The Xbox X is going to help Sony cause. all the Games that will be utilized for the X will have to force the greatness that awaits on the Pro enabled games now

I don't think that there will be a significant leap like when the consoles went from SD to HD with PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The PS4 Pro and Scorpio are good for 4KCBR and HDR but because it's in the same generation as PS4/Xbox One, I don't think that PS5 would have a significant leap at all.

Before PS4 Pro, I would have easily said the leap would have been 4K or maybe higher and HDR with PS5 but now, I would say that it will probably be 8K and HDR including meta data and whatnot.

What im hoping for though is every component to be current and good for at least five years and most of all, the best CPU available because to me, CPU is far more important than GPU but you can't market memory and whatnot so all the companies go for the visuals. If Sony reveals PS5 for $500 and says that there won't be a mid-gen upgrade and that PS5 will last for at least five years, I'll be there day one.

It'll be a custom CPU that's a generation (or so) behind modern CPUs because that's how the process works. Won't be bleeding edge, and will typically be surpassed (especially if it's still AMD) around or shortly after launch. They also won't really compare apples to apples to what PC builders can acquire due to customization for consoles anyways.

As for what I want, more power (a given) and a renewed commitment to proper backwards compatibility for the platform going forward (lets spare everyone the BC debate again, please).

Hard to say what the next SD/HD type of moment consoles will have, as mobile will probably continue to lead in the Augmented Reality space (especially now that Apple has 'invented' it), which is much more accessible than VR IMO.

Both of which need to get a lot less expensive to matter for any unit designed to be stationary in your living room but we'll probably see MS give it a shot next year on the One X.

If I can put on a $199-299 headset and get this experience in my living room but w/ the power of a 4k-capable console behind it, I'm in.

Even just some of the Illumiroom stuff finally coming to production, via that same headset. AR allows for more fidelity and a much more meaningful effect.

I'm looking forward to this reality in my lifetime, though hopefully minus the criminal bit

Not going to lie, even with the only Apple devices in the house being the wife's Macbooks (1 personal and 1 for work), an iPad is pretty tempting just for the ARkit stuff.

Good topic for another thread if we can keep the console wars out of it, I'm sure some haven't seen or considered some of the stuff above, I know I hadn't watched any of the ARkit stuff until I started writing this post.

This whole 4K thing is good discussion. Don’t need more storage thanks to the update earlier this year allowing external HDDs. Don’t have a 4K TV and am not in the market for any TV at the moment so, looks like I’ll be fine with my current PS4. [emoji16]

I used my Pro on my 1080p TV for a while before I got my 4K TV and yes, it's worth it as you get smoother frame rates and in case of some games you will see much better graphics just because of the enhanced resolution.

I have quit using my PS4 altogether and move my PS4 Pro back and forth between upstairs and downstairs if that tells you how much I think of a difference there is.

                              Three things:

                              1. True 4K
                              2. 60 frames per second
                              3. Improved physics

Those three things as a whole would make gaming vastly better than simply trying to keep making games graphics better.

If I don't have a 4k tv. Is it worth it to get a Pro?
