I don't know, but I think you're probably right. My guess is that some of the traditional voice stuff has been ignored as they work on getting Cortana integrated, but I don't have inside info as I rarely work with those guys.

Will Cortona improve the Kinect experience? Or just add to it?

Probably depends on implementation. I'd love to just leverage that to do everything, and take advantage of more recent development on a voice recognition service/platform. Otherwise I'd hope the Cortana update silently empowers Kinect voice recognition to rely on the same resources.

In the end if both 'Xbox' and 'Hey Cortana' are different shades of the same underlying service it'd be a big win IMO.

Cortana is internet-enabled speech as opposed to local speech. It should be better because of that.

All of a sudden my guide isn't working correctly. The guide stops at channel 271 for some reason then it just stops. It deleted all of my favorites past that point so I can't access them from there, and if I try to speak the channel to the kinect it will say this network is not available. So for the time being I have to use my regular cable remote guide.

Weird, I've not heard of that. Does quitting OneGuide or a hard reboot of the app do anything?

Re: Questions About Live TV on Xbox One?

I wish these consoles were expandable for the purposes of things like DVR, Live TV, etc. The core box able to do all of the above, but need additional accessory interfaces, additional processing, etc? Expansion boxes.

Kind of like what Sony is doing with their VR unit requiring an extra processing unit. If I want to go all-in w/ the Xbox One as the center of my living room and not just that as a somewhat secondary option for my gaming console I'd be happy to buy a branded multi-HDD unit that includes some extra processing or something to help make the experience better (partner w/ Slingbox, etc). A multimedia dock for misc devices to assist w/ mirroring, recharging, syncing. A processing unit to emulate some of the Azure functions for offline play, I don't know. I'm sure smart people in Redmond have better ideas for this kind of open ended hardware play.

As I see the Kinect and TV seemingly starved for resources this is a solution that I do kinda wish could happen, but I know is a pipe dream (and probably a development headache unless implemented pretty elegantly). As I close apps to make the TV app function at 100% every night I am hopeful things continue to improve across the board to make it a great experience for all, regardless of use case.

Edit: Wandered from my point for a bit there, heh. Starting today we're cutting the cord. We'll be supplementing our access to the various TV apps (still have mom's DirecTV credentials for that) with the Xbox OTA tuner and probably a Channel Master or TiVo at some point depending on when the Xbox DVR stuff goes into preview.

                  Hey fellas

Another question I have for you

Why is it that sometimes my controller will randomly shut off and I get the message to reconnect a controller ? I don't know if I'm holding down a button by mistake.

                  Thanks for any help

                  Jeremy

Sorry guys I meant to click on the ps4 thread and I clicked on this by accident. I hope a mod can move it over for me. Thanks

I like it and appreciate your perspective. You're right on it being tough, because the whole system (HW + SW) would need to be designed with this in mind.

In regards to you needing to close backgrounded apps + games, I am working with some Xbox Platform folks to get that issue fixed.

For DVR, I'm PM'ing this feature, and I can't wait for more folks to try it out. I'll let you know when we have something to announce.

Re: Questions About Live TV on Xbox One?

Slowly losing the war that could lead to replacing our Xbox One with just Smart TV apps, a TiVo, or something as the center of our entertainment center. Performance is just so poor at times and my wife is growing increasingly impatient. Hard to say if it's all the box itself or indicative of some hardware issue, but as we continue to struggle w/ the Kinect and reach more for the remote we get closer to moving on from it as the center of our living room.

Pausing for 10 minutes during the Oscars so we could put our daughter to bed and then the Xbox changing channels and losing the buffer instead of whatever my wife was trying to tell it to do was the latest in a number of issues that resulted in a very unhappy redhead. This weekend she was having buffering/streaming issues on particular Amazon titles, went to a Smart TV app and it ended up playing fine. Was it the box? Was it the interwebs, or a momentary issue w/ Amazon? No idea.

I am hopeful things will continue to improve. Kinect functionality will keep it in place far longer than it probably should so buying all the time I can

Yeah, I understand the frustration. Lots of video playback quality fixes coming in this month and in the future. Some of the app issues are tough because they are outside our control, but I totally agree that some providers just haven't made things as good of an experience on the Xbox One as they could be.

It's really strange that some commands the Xbox almost ALWAYS recognizes on the very first try (Xbox Turn Off) while others (Xbox Volume Up) the thing just doesn't seem to understand no matter how many times you try.

When we get Cortana will it have voice training like the Windows 10 version does do you know?

Volume up is probably the one I use the most. Works really well for me. Weird how it can vary so much from setup to setup.
