While im more of a casual gamer than a hardcore gamer, I still average one finished game a month which is more than most and allows me to minimize my backlog. I'm not an EA fan and Madden lasted me two weeks and it was gone. I don't collect games anymore unless it's via digital download and that's only when they hit the $20 or less mark. Now, I buy games at launch, play and finish them and no, I don't rush them. I enjoy the games I finish, otherwise, I wouldn't waste my time trying to do so. Have only finished four games that have been released in 2014 but that's mainly because all the games that I want to play are still yet to be released this year or have been delayed until 2015. I'm currently playing Xbox 360 more than PlayStation 4 because as of right now, there's nothing for me to play.

I specifically mentioned that I wanted my gaming console to be that portal to media because I do more than just game. And the fact is, Sony is just as aware of the need, because they have all of the streaming stuff in their box, too. They just didn't actually make it as useful as Microsoft.
I do watch TV shows, movies and listen to music but I do all of that stuff on my laptop. Not on my gaming console. No reason for me to stream stuff via my console when I could just use my laptop. Both consoles can pretty much do the same stuff but to me, the number one priority and focus should be games, not everything else. To me, that defeats the purpose of buying a video game console.

We comment and like each others achievements and clips, and use the hub to find other with similar gaming interested.

And seriously, all I have to to post a video to my activity feed, which shows up on everyone following me, is say Record That. So when I score a cool goal, or something funny happens in a game, I've gotten ere ally good at saying it at the right time to create a little slice of what I'm doing. I never leave me game, I don't have to edit it. It just pops up.
Well, you got me there as I have no interest in playing online and the only game that may change that is over a year away. I care about the single player experience as that's what I prefer. Now, it's all online which I hate because if a game has a single player campaign, none of the online stuff should be connected to it. I also don't like that co-op stuff doesn't have an AI option so you can still play it without going online.

Because my friends and I are gamers, and love to share our experiences.

And when I look at the upcoming exclusives, Sunset overdrive, Horizon 2, and the MCC, as well as the recent release of D4, it's odd to see people claiming that gaming is not important on the XB1. Gaming is freaking fantastic on XB1.
Just sounds to me that if it wasn't for all of the "multi-media" capabilities that Xbox One offers, you probably wouldn't have even purchased it to begin with. Of course, in the end, it's all about personal preference and currently for me, that's PS4 easily but without playing favorites, if it wasn't for third party games, both consoles would have been dead on arrival.

Exclusives wise, for me personally, it's tied at 1-1. Knack for PS4 and Ryse for Xbox One. Have no interest in Infamous, Titanfall or any of the exclusives that you listed or any others that are coming out for the rest of 2014 for either console. I have five months to go as im waiting for The Order: 1886 and Bloodborne.

As for gaming not being important on Xbox One, im sure it is for those who own an Xbox One....it's just NOT as important as all the "multi-media" stuff that can be done with the console. At least, that's the impression I get after reading so many posts from those who own an Xbox One regardless of the fact if they own a PS4 or not.

In the end, to each his/her own.

Daniel, no offense but it's very closed minded for you to say what you're saying about the Xbox one without owning one or trying out the experience first hand. It's a gaming console first that does other funs things too if I can put it that way for you. The Xbox allows you to connect socially with other friends with all the features it has. I own both consoles but find myself using the Xbox one more because of the extra features it has. I can watch a live football game with 3-4 of my buddies while getting notifications on screen from the Xbox NFL app in regards to my favorite team scoring or doing a highlight. Like Hester said, I can do something funny or nice in game and share it with all my friends by just telling my Xbox "Xbox record that" and many other things. The experience on a laptop will never compare to a big screen with surround sound and being able to multitask all of it. Plus I can connect easier with friends with on screen notifications while watching tv. I don't game 24 hours a day. People do watch tv you know. There's many games coming out and this is a sports gaming site and right now many sports titles have dropped that are great. Forza horizon looks amazing and is 1080p msaa 4 and is a nice game coming soon. It's easy to shoot something down without trying it out first.

I would consider myself a gamer.

I welcome the ability to use streaming services on my console. It's one less device I need to do everything I want to do entertainment wise.

I don't think any of that takes away from anyone's gaming experience. It just adds to the value of a console.

Re: Owners of both PS4 and Xbox One: Pros and Cons

Pro-Sony people can scream to the cows come home that the PS4 is more about games implying that the XBOX is not. That's total bs. Just because MS put in EXTRA work doesn't mean they slacked on the gaming end. Sony went much more aggressive on the specs. So the PS4, technically, has a more potential than the One. But I doubt you'll see that potential realized in too many games in the long run.

I'm not saying the One is better. I will say that I do my gaming on the PS4. But the One IS the media center. Almost every person I know that has both, has this setup. So what does that say? If you are JUST about gaming, PS4. If you will get ANY significant use out of the media experience, I'd recommend XBO.

I'm not being close minded or shooting down Xbox One. I simply have no interest in using Xbox One for all that multi-media stuff. When I buy a video game console, it's because I want to play the games that are and will be available to play. I don't care about listening to music or watching some TV show via a console because it's not going to change the show or make it better than what it is. I can easily connect my laptop to my HDTV using the HDMI port so that's not a problem or concern.

As for friends, majority of my friends stopped playing video games a long time ago and the few that still do are like me in that they want a single player experience. For those like you who use the Xbox One in that way, it's great but for someone like me, it would be collecting more dust than my PS4.

And im not bashing Xbox One or anyone who owns it or prefers it the most. I'm just disappointed and turned off to the console when the first positive I read about the console from gamers is the ability to interact with social media, talking to the console via Kinect, etc. It's not even about the games. The games are secondary.

To me, Xbox One seems like a more powerful more up to date 3DO and for someone like me who prefers games over all this other stuff, that's not exactly enticing me to run out and purchase the console.

On the bright side, Ori and the Blind Forest and Quantum Break look great and im looking forward to eventually playing them.

In the end, im just turned off when I read that the best stuff about Xbox One is everything else but the games. That's just not for me which is why I purchased a PS4 and while that's currently collecting dust for another nine days, Xbox One would be collecting even more dust. Either way, I'll eventually purchase an Xbox One. Just have to wait for a few more games that I want to play get released.

Your arguments are disingenuous because you also dismiss all of the exclusives that are out, or will be soon for the XB1. In terms of exclusives, its not really close. Sony has dropped the ball in a big way.

So when I talk about the advantage of a console that was created with the foresight to allow IR control, it I in addition to the gaming I am enjoying.

With the exception of Ryse: Son of Rome and Knack, I dismiss all of the exclusives for Xbox One and PS4 because I don't have any interest in them. Why would I praise exclusives that I have no interest in?

Right now, it's 1-1 for me but come February, it will be 3-1 in favor of PS4 because I want to play Bloodborne and The Order: 1886. Ori and Quantum Break will make it 3-3 until late 2014 when Uncharted 4 is released which would make it 4-3 in favor of PS4 but one game isn't really a big deal.

Both consoles have their fair share of exclusives but I have no interest in the majority of them, regardless of console. Either way, thankfully, I have six third party games to hold me over for the rest of the year.

I think both consoles are very good.i honestly can't find anything about either that makes me say one is clearly "better".
Today I think the only exclusives I play are The Show and Titanfall but I'm sure there will be more with time.
Currently the only feature that would make the decision for me if I could only buy one is EA Access on the Xbox. It's a really great feature to have a few extra games available to goof around with from time to time for only $30. It been really cool to play some games I normally wouldn't buy like BF 4 and Peggle. I always like to have a FIFA and Madden game handy. I'm not hardcore for either but I get a craving for each from time to time. Don't like racing games myself but my kid loves Need For Speed so that was a nice add also.
Once I build up a bigger collection (or start getting some better freebies from PS + or Games with Gold) that feature may not matter much but for the time being it's the only thing that puts the Xbox ahead for me.

He's just a gamer, which is cool.

I'm a father, husband, and wear 10 other hats along with Gamer now.

I don't want to have to teach my wife or mother in law how to hook a laptop up to the main tv in order to watch Netflix. Therefore we use various boxes (blu-ray streaming, old consoles, etc). Now with the One it's way simpler for people to learn how to do streaming and whatnot. IMO it's made it a part of the living room in a great way.

It would have been more annoying to have to buy a webcam for my wife to Skype, then she's forced to sit in the corner where we have our PC and monitor. Now she can skype with the picture on the huge TV, just by talking to the tv. She calls her mom and sister on that a ton now.

I don't think you can really undervalue how easy it can make it for "non gamers" to use. I remember trying to show my wife something on the PS3 and the menu/blade system wasn't very intuitive for her so she basically bailed.

Just something to consider. I still agree that pure gamer is better served by a PS4. I've also realized that I'm no longer a pure gamer, and love all the features the One gets me now. Before my systems would gather dust for all but the 3ish hours a week I can play. Now we use the consoles constantly, I can be watching tv and pretty instantly switch to a Netflix movie if I'm bored (something I do when watching the baby early while my wife sleeps).

To be honest, im happy that Sony discontinued the "instant game collection" because games would stay on the list for months and one or two would get replaced here and there. Definitely prefer the two new games every month setup.

As for EA Access, im not an EA fan so their service doesn't interest me. And personally, they're only adding the older games and this service would have probably been better off being on Xbox 360 (and/or PS3) due to bigger catalog of released games and user install base.

If it does good though, I can definitely see other publishers doing the same thing but unless you get a backlog, most games that get added to the service for Xbox One (and/or PS4) would have most likely already have been played and finished.

The one positive for me in regards to there not being a lot of exclusives (and games thus far in general) that I want to play is that I can minimize my backlog to where in the future, I won't need an EA Access type service from any publisher.

Mainly a gamer but I just finished watching two episodes of Defiance that just recently ended season two. Watched them on my laptop via Hulu. Laptop or via Xbox One, one thing that frustrates me is the fact that in order to watch episodes the next day, I actually need cable and have to link my provider. As if I would really need to watch online if im paying for cable. I would watch the episodes as they happen. To me, that's just stupid. Thankfully, I have gotten smarter and stopped paying for extra stuff that I can watch for free.

On topic.....I guess all that multi-media stuff is great for those like you but for people like me, it's just pointless and useless when I have a laptop. Now, if I didn't have a laptop, then perhaps, it would be a different story. And in general, im not bashing those who use Xbox One for all the multi-media stuff, I just hate reading the majority of posts that favor Xbox One and list the multi-media aspect as the console's number one positive when the majority of stuff can still be done via a PC.

In the end, to each his/her own though.
