I would most definitely purchase the 48" Oled before going to an expensive monitor

              Re: Gaming Monitor discussion

After years of gaming on my 1080p BenQ XL2720z, about a year ago I finally upgraded to a 1440p monitor, the 27 inch Samsung CHG70. It has the best input latency times I could find and a pretty nice image. Being a VA panel, opposed to the BenQ TN panel, brightness and color are way better on the Samsung, input latency is absolutely stellar, but it does have some minor color response time issues that namny VA panels seem to show, most noticeable when playing on a console for some reason. On PC I still see the issues sometimes but nowhere near as frequent, maybe due to 144hz on PC vs 60hz on PS4 Pro?

While the brightness and color are leaps ahead of the old BenQ, the Sammy advertises as an HDR monitor but that's pretty crap. It maxes out at 400 nits and the HDR on it just isn't real HDR, it always looks much better with HDR turned off. A true HDR monitor is very expensive, from what I have seen anyway.

I don't console game on monitors anymore, I bought a Sony x900F for my Pro last year and can't go back. Glorious HDR can be a game changer in games like Death Stranding and Days Gone.

The Samsung monitor isn't perfect but it is very solid, my first curved monitor (I love it, never going back to straight panels) too.

When I upgrade my GPU to whatever the next Nvidia flagship card is (3080ti or whatever) I will probably buy a 4k monitor, but my 2070 Super is enough for 1440p (for now)

I am getting my son a standard PS4 for his birthday and I’m going to set up our spare room with two tables, both of our PS4s and two monitors, but I need one for him. Can anyone recommend a reasonable priced monitor for standard PS4? He mostly plays games like Apex and Fortnite. Something with good refresh rate etc.

Also if anyone wants to recommend some decently price desks for us that would be appreciated.

                Thanks!

What’s your budget? You just need a 1080p monitor with a 1ms response rate. If it’s just a ps4 all you need is a 60hz screen and that’s minimum in today’s monitors. You’ll only need to go higher than that if you plan to pc game.

There are so many you can choose from and get a great one.

I typically stick with Asus and Acer but Ben Q has been really good too.

Just stick with 1ms response time for competitive gaming. IPS monitors will look better but just a tiny bit slower response time typically at 4ms which for most people you won’t notice.

Obviously 1080p monitor and I would go 24 inches with 60hz refresh rate.

For consoles I have been using LG monitors. Beautiful screen and you can find a great one for 350 to 450 bucks. I personally have the UK 850 but you can go to a lower model that doesn’t have usb-c

I have the Dell Alienware 1900R.

It's a curved and ultrawide 34.1" 1440p IPS monitor with G-Sync. It can do 120 Hz in overclocked mode, but I don't use it. I sense a little bit too much chromatic aberration, and when combined with the Super Fast refresh rate to remedy any input lag you get some motion blur. Plus, with the way I max out my games' visuals, hitting the 60-100 FPS mark seems to be all I can achieve anyway, and it still looks damn great.

It's rather expensive with few ports, but it absolutely suits my needs and for all other intents and purposes is a monster. Hardly needed any calibrating out of the box to get proper white balance and shadow detail.

I'm not necessarily recommending it to others, but I'm just saying that it was extremely worthy in the end for what I wanted out of it after a considerable amount of research. I use this for a lot more than just gaming as well, though.
