Edit: just realized this is 60hz

So I came to this thread to ask a question. I bought a 27" HP Omen 1440p 144hz G-sync monitor a few weeks ago. So far so good, but the colors are "meh" at best. Add in the fact that I need to load my color preset EVERY time I sit down is kind of annoying, and still only looks slightly better than "meh", color-wise.

Now I'm wondering if I give up the refresh rate for for an IPS panel. I don't really play competitively but I do play my fair share of FPS games. At 1440p I'm only hitting 100 fps anyway, not close to 144. But then there's G-sync... ugh these decisions kill me, and I thought I'd had it figured out.

I'm on PC, and got a good deal on the Omen ($350) and I like it. I'm just wondering if I'm missing out on a better picture on other games where I don't need the super fast refresh rate..

Is it the Nvidia control panel colors? My friend had that issue and this fixed it for him

It's actually in the HP Display software I've had a problem. But I'm definitely going to look into in Nvidia control panel now.

Glad you’re enjoying the monitor. As far as picture quality Monitors don’t come close to a high quality 4k HDR tv in my opinion. Monitors offer better performance but not better picture.

I mean Ill tell you, IM a big sports gamer and the sports games runs completely better to me. Example, the SHOW on my monitor kills the TV's for me, I hot and pitch better, even making stelar plays infield and outfield, wheres I was not making these play when gaming on my TV's. I can see and tell the difference.

I think it just looks better IMO, Im sitting close enough to get emerged in the game now and they honestly look great. It used to always be about the size of the TV thats what I think people get sucked into. Its not the size in the prize but the motion in the boat LMAO. 4K on a 27 inch wit HDR to me looks better.

I had my Pro setup to a 4k Hisense and this monitor looks better and of course, plays the game way better. My Xbox one X is hooked to my TCL607 55' and it looks awesome and play great, I just love the monitor better.

example, Sports game play better hands down. I mean Im making defensive plays in the SHOW now that I was not able to make on my TV's maybe due in part because the TV's are slower. Man does hitting and fielding playing the show workout so much better playing on a gaming monitor.

Hisense and TCL TVs aren’t top tier TVs though. From my experience Good TVs look better. I agree with you on performance of monitors being better. You get better HDR on TVs as well. I’m sure it’s a good monitor though and the price is great. Enjoy

                    Re: Gaming Monitor discussion

I agree - I have a few lg oleds in the house so hdr content on this monitor (and most other non oled tvs) doesn't really bring that great of an image quality increase in am overall sense.

I have the original 4k monitor from last year and this hdr model, side by side they are identical for non hdr content. With the hdr content this one definitely has a better contrast, color, brightness, etc, a definite increase vs the non hdr monitor...

but as Artman said that image quality/increase doesnt seem all that great when compared to the tvs.

I had a similar experience several years ago when I switched to playing on a monitor. Most noticeably in FPS games. Had way less head scratching moments wondering how I lost a gun battle. Went from always having a negative KD and being a liability on my team to regularly being in the top 3 and having a positive KD.

You’ll get a better picture with your tv, but the motion handling is the weakness of that set. The monitor will have way better motion and input lag. I don’t want to discourage anyone because monitors are great as well.

The colors just pop. HDR Standard/Vivid/Game all look good. I feel HDR Game looked the best. On my QLED Samsung the game looked like trash. Like night and day on my monitor.

This monitor is still $349 currently at Best Buy. It was the DOTD 2 days ago for $319. It’s going to jump back up to $449 I would think pretty soon.
