If you want the full fledged experience 4K tv is recommended . (4K gaming , VR, )

You can't play 4K game on a 1080p set. However if developers should to use that extra power to run 1080p at 60 fps using Scorpio they also have that option. If that's the case you won't need to use a 4ktv.

Take Battlefield . If a Dev chooses to make a 4K version for Scorpio you will need a 4ktv. If a Dev chooses instead to use this game for 1080p 60 fps using Scorpio no 4ktv will be needed for THAT game.
I agree that this is what the Scorpio ultimately will do, but MS really needs to tightening up their messaging. They had a golden opportunity to change perception with the Scorpio announcement and they go right back to poor messaging.

What's confusing is the messaging saying that you basically need a 4k TV and that if you don't have a 4k TV you shouldn't get Scorpio. Why? Is this system set to only 4k output? Why wouldn't we be able to get better frame rates, visiuals and true native 1080p resolution if we have a 1080p TV? Makes very little sense.

I guess my question is: How are the games going to be developed? I heard like PC settings. So there's the Scorpio 4K and then S1080. Are the settings going to be locked in a way that renders the benefit of the stronger console irrelevant? Like if I put CoD Black Ops in my One, it plays like Black Ops did because it's the same game, it doesn't get benefits from the stronger console because the settings are locked.

If the settings are indeed locked is what he's saying still wrong? You wouldn't get much benefit from having the 4K console and playing 1080P games on it if the settings don't allow it to scale past what the S1080 allows. I would think they're not just going to unlock games and let us tinker like we do on PC, so the settings would still be set.

That's a great point . That's what I'm wondering too. Also will the one s have any small but improved visuals over the standard X1. It has HDR support so that's an upgrade .

          Well it doesn't lol
Xbox One games will look "identical" on Xbox One S, Microsoft has said, despite the newer console's slight boost in pro…

The games should be able to detect the device and resolution and adjust the settings accordingly. If you have Scorpio and it detects 1080p you would think it would still be able to up the other visual settings.

There shouldn't be a need to adjust settings manually unless you want scaled down visuals for a competitive advantage.

It's the same thing when trying to run a 1080p game on a 720p tv/monitor, it won't look as good as it's supposed to. I still think it will look good tho.

Forward compatibility are reasons to say the Scorpio won't benefit you otherwise, but there's no way 1080p users wouldn't enjoy a benefit also from the same console at lower resolutions.

Would be nice to discuss this in one thread, not two concurrently lol.

I thought there were still games that weren't even running in 1080. Why should we expect that even with improved hardware that games will be playable in 4K, or the S be able to have more games running in 1080?

The Slim model will help future games like FH3 and Gears look better due to HDR but if you have no HDR set then it will be 100% the same as standard xb1

I am just hoping that Madden look better...LOL

The last 2 pages of the thread are exactly my point, the confusion is evident among even hardcore gamer's.

They need to communicate messages better and it's something MS has had a difficult time doing this generation.

And I agree, I think confused reporters are misconstruing Phil Spencer's words but the issue is then it's communicated across social media like wildfire. I stand by the fact that the decision to announce the Scorpio now was a bad idea.

I just don't know if developers care enough to make that work lol. There's games that come out and barely work now on the one Xbox SKU that's out, now they're going to have to optimize for 2 different sets of hardware at once, plus 2 from Sony? And then more as the console becomes modular?

Game developers for consoles (MS & Sony) are going to have factor in variance like with pc gaming heh.

                              Exactly.

I completely understand confusion on the subject, its a brand new concept for console gaming, I honestly feel it's a lot simpler than it sounds and quotes here and there are maybe being over-analysed or misinterpreted

I think it's gonna work out beautifully, once everything launches and the dust settles. It's worked this way on PC forever

To your point, even phones do this. A game will work on an older iPhone, but on a newer iPhone it will detect that it can support Metal and automatically enhance graphics and performance. The user is otherwise none the wiser.
