I know it will never look as good as the pro on 4k tv, but I'm already feeling regret at what look more like ps2 480p.

    Any ideas?
Sounds like a stupid question but there have been others who forgot or didn't notice...

Did you remove the protective cover from lenses?

This is ushering in a new round of doom and gloom articles about the platform.

Not completely without merit, install base needs to grow and continue to do so. If the rest of the market evolves past them (wireless HMDs, more points of tracking, etc) it will be interesting to see what Sony does to make it more than an enthusiast offering with a sparse first party library.

Didn't read it but I'm also reading doom and gloom for 4K technology and to me it's just a bunch of rubbish, both are going to do fine I think.

Where are you reading that? One is an industry standard and the other is just a console accessory.

I can't read the article because its subscription only. But if I had to guess, Mochizuki asked analysts about the 917,000 units Sony has sold since it's October release and they're saying that more numbers are needed for the base. I think Oculus Rift's lawsuit loss for $500 million is a more damaging story than Sony's current numbers. I also read somewhere Zenimax is asking the courts to have Oculus cease with any new contents on the market. This could potentially add even more numbers to Sony.

If the article questions the number of software developers and studios committed to Sony's VR, Mochizuki unfortunately posted his editorial before Sony's Press release. Well, maybe its a response to his editorial.

The number of PS VR software titles and experiences reached more than 100 globally as of February 19, 2017, and the number of developers and publishers has increased to more than 360, ranging from smaller independent teams to the industry’s top publishers as well as a range of entertainment companies across movies and music.

                          http://www.sie.com/en/corporate/rele...17/170227.html

These editors keep forgetting that VR is NOT only a gamer's piece of entertainment. It's training, its education, its media entertainment.

I posted this in the OS VR poll. Tell me this doesn't look like something you wouldn't want to hopefully try in the future.

                              Re: PS VR

Oculus is Facebook though, not sure $500m is too big of a deal there, and any disruption in their business I'd expect it to push people to Vive and other products over time due to the overlap, not PSVR.

I don't think VR is going anywhere, PSVR is a walled garden though, requiring specific curation and has all the usual console barriers (licensing, etc). I don't think PSVR is going anywhere anytime soon either, but it has the highest barrier for entry for software development, and if anything does lead to it's demise it'll be that. We don't have any guidance from Sony that it will work with their next console, or if their current console library will either, so developers are faced with a 2-3? year window before Sony potentially moves on from both the HMD and the platform itself, whereas a SteamVR project remains relevant indefinitely.

I've been reading in a lot of 4K forums lately about DirecTV specifically and many people (who are nuts IMO) say 4K is just some "gimmick" that will go the way of 3D TV.
