Re: PS VR

Star Trek: Bridge Crew delayed now to May 30th.
However, it does help me with deciding another game to replace it.

There is confirmation that the original bridge will be available to play with as well as others.

HeroCade Bringing 9 VR Indie Games to PS VR in One $15 Package

A bundle of nine VR indie games is coming soon to the PlayStation VR which includes Dreadhalls, a popular horror title for Gear VR and Oculus Rift. HeroCade takes a novel approach to the bundle’s presentation, combining all the games with a ‘metaverse quest’.

Undoubtedly the most-recognizable title in the HeroCade bundle, Dreadhalls is a first-person horror title has been terrifying gamers since its reveal in 2013, and is currently available for Gear VR and Oculus Rift, and now coming to PSVR via HeroCade. Developers White Door Games provided an update for Oculus Touch recently; the game now supports tracked controllers, so you can expect to see a similar system available for Sony’s Move controllers in the PSVR version.

Sisters, a game available for free on Gear VR and Cardboard, is a very short but chilling horror experience that reacts to head movement. Otherworld Interactive is due to bring the game to the HTC Vive, and the demo on Steam is a completely different, higher-fidelity experience with the same theme. Another game, Sisters: Faye & Elsa also launched on Daydream VR, which is completely different again; a longer experience that incorporates some puzzle-solving. Going by the footage seen of HeroCade so far, the PSVR version of Sisters appears to be the full version of the Vive demo.

The other seven titles included in the bundle are from HeroCade developers Lucid Sight themselves; Jurassic Survival, 405 Road Rage, Zombie Strike, PolyRunner VR, Alpha Turkey Hunt, Space Bit Attack and Gumi No Yumi. Six are previous projects, and free on Gear VR, aside from Space Bit Attack which is available for Vive, Rift and OSVR. Arguably the most interesting title here is Jurassic Survival, a dinosaur-themed endless shooter exclusive to HeroCade.

      Re: PS VR

      Good to know that part of the delay for Star Trek: Bridge Crew is to have the following added to the game;

      - You will be able to play solo as a Captain as well as in a 4 player co-op which features procedurally generated solo and co-op missions.

      - They're adding the original Star Trek Bridge from Enterprise NCC-1701 (as previously mentioned)

      - Adding cross-play with the Vive and Rift player base

Also........Interesting news coming from the Sony camp today regarding VR

SONY PATENTS VIVE LIKE TRACKING SYSTEM FOR PSVR

It is basically outlining a similar device to what the Vive utilises — a beam projector that determines the player's position in the play-space based on light and mirrors (similar to the way sonar works). For those who do not know difference between an external system such as then HTC Vive, compared to what PSVR has built in; it all comes down to immersion. At present, the PSVR employs a built-in system that relies on light from the headset and the PlayStation camera to place the player in the virtual world, offering little mobility for the player.

While there are downsides to an external tracking solution, the key point is it would be more accurate, and would place the PSVR in the same league as the Oculus and the Vive.

While the PlayStation 4 may not match the power of a gaming computer with the latest technology, it would at very least give developers a similar toolset when porting games.

It's unclear if Sony plans to use this patent with the technology that is already present in the PSVR, or if this is part of a plan for a PSVR 2

        Re: PS VR

I've read so far from 2 perspectives for Ace Combat 7. One had a very hard time with motion sickness. This preview is different. The VR experience will depend on the individual person, but the immersion sounds amazing.

but the thought of actually being in the air pulling off barrel-rolls and spinning out in crashes at high speed was a little intimidating – even more so when the Bandai Namco rep who demoed the game for me jokingly said they were thinking about including ‘sick bags’ with all Playstation 4 copies of the game.

Fortunately after spending time with the demo I can say that there was nothing to worry about at all; my time with Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown in a Playstation VR headset was not only problem-free, but one of the most exhilarating and immersive experiences I’ve had in virtual reality. I was hitting the skies from all angles, making death-defying barrel rolls, and even spinning out of control without a single feeling of stomach movement – I actually went out of my way to see if the game would make me feel queasy, but it never did. I’m not saying it’ll be the same for everyone, but knowing my stomach could survive the skies was a mighty relief.

I’d zoom past enemy pilots and look at the islands that are laced across the sea below me, and it actually looked and felt like I was out flying across the skies. It’s a fantastic sensation and one I hadn’t felt yet in virtual reality; sure, I’ve traversed Space in a headset, but actually flying through an actual sky and looking down on land was incredibly impressive. It offered enough visually to make you feel like you’re there, which is all you really want from a game like Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown.

Whilst I consider myself quite ‘experienced’ with virtual reality these days (finished the whole of ‘Resident Evil 7’ with zero nausea, aw yiss), I had been a little worried about putting on the headset for Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown, the latest title in Bandai Namco’s long-running flight combat series. Walking around a creepy mansion […]

I haven't tried it yet either. Been itching for a good VR game to play. So many games still playing. Playoff race with Mets in the Show. Jets season in progress in Madden. And the Nets in 2k, well........

Just going to be patient and not binge buy.

Also, Skydance Interactive is announcing two new VR games.

Skydance Interactive, a division of Skydance Media, revealed new details about its first two virtual reality projects: Life VR will debut March 24 in conjunction with Skydance’s scifi thriller Life, which is releasing through Columbia Pictures; and Archangel, which was first announced last month at CES, will premiere in July.

In Life VR, the player — stationed within the International Space Station command module — leads a team of scientists in a fight for survival against a rapidly evolving life-form from Mars. After launching for mobile game play on Samsung Gear VR and Google Daydream, Life VR will also be made available on Oculus, Steam, Viveport and Playstation.

Archangel is Skydance Interactive’s first original title — a story-driven shooter game in which players are dropped into the cockpit of a six-story-high war machine that must stop a tyrannical corporation from taking over a post-apocalyptic America. The title will be made available for VR systems including Oculus, Steam, Viveport and Playstation.

                      And even Bigger news!!!!!!

Google announced last week that the latest version of Chrome, its popular web browser, will support virtual reality (VR) on the web, allowing any user to view VR content on any device, across any platform.

For a more immersive experience, users can view WebVR content on Daydream-ready devices, such as the Pixel. Users without a Daydream headset or compatible device can still view the content, but in a 360-video-type fashion, similar to Google's Street View.

For now, only a few websites offer VR content, however, Google is working with developers to increase this number.

I'm sure that Sony will be developing an app or dare we say web browser in the future to work with Google since the 2 have a positive partnership in delivering content. But in the meantime you can do it now but with limitations.....
