Re: PS VR

    Re: PS VR

Lots to like from feedback regarding testing out the headset which is going to be readily available to the public for play. Eurogamer's Ian Higton and GameInformer's Andrew Reiner give their thoughts after playing a few games......

As I've already mention it blows the PSVR1 out of the water in every aspect, but with resolutions per-eye coming in at almost double that of my Rift S, the difference in visuals between the way I've been experiencing VR on a PC and what the PSVR2 offers was, quite frankly, staggering.

I was already excited for Sony's new headset but having experienced it for myself, I fully expect it to breathe a new lease of life into the slightly stagnating world of virtual reality gaming. It really is a huge step forward for PSVR in general, but as a simple to use, easy to wear piece of hardware, I can see it being a huge hit with VR fans new and old. "Early 2023" - which is still all we've got for a release date - can't come soon enough.

When I played the original version of Resident Evil Village on PlayStation 5, I didn’t pay too much attention to the environmental details. In this playthrough, I am frequently distracted by them. Even though this version is essentially the same game, it takes on new life through PSVR2’s stunning display.

I was blown away by PlayStation VR2's technology and want to spend more time with it, but need reasons to do so.

        Re: PS VR

As expected. The move controllers and aim controller are obsolete. All the VR1 games will be eventually (depends on publisher) ported over into the PS Plus Library and updated for the new headset and controllers if they wish too. I've also heard rumors that RE 7 Biohazard will be reworked for PSVR2 by Capcom which also never supported the move controllers.

Lol....Sony doesn't want you to slip in the current disc, they want you to pay for an updated version in the digital world for their PS subscriptions.

There's only one way to make it up. Give us a $499 headset or Dickey's $399 even better!

          Re: PS VR

A real bummer that this will not be bc with psvr 1 games. I know a lot of people where expecting that because of the difference in tech But it's still a big bummer. It's a hard sale to spend like a console price on something like this and not having bc makes that even more so. I downloaded a few free VR games a while back just for if I ever got a VR when Sony was giving a few of them away for a short time and now I will not even be able to play those. I know we may get ports of some games but we don't know what games and of course they will not be free.

            Re: PS VR

Although not the same, you can play certain PSVR1 games that have been optimized for the PS5 consoles with your PSVR headset. Not sure of the full list but I've noticed improvements between the two with some games.

            Some examples below;

You can see a small difference between the 2 consoles for Star Wars Squadron

You can see a small difference between the 2 consoles for No Mans Sky

You can see a small difference between the 2 consoles for Blood & Truth

With everything quiet at the moment, just a heads up in the VR market.

The Pico 4 is releasing this month in Japan, Europe, and South Korea with a US market release probably later next year. This is an immediate impact towards PSVR2 and even more so towards the Quest 2 with its all and everything claim. The price release is also an interesting measuring stick regarding Meta's recent price hike and now that Sony knows what its immediate competitor's price is, maybe they'll now make a move.

Here's a first impression on the headset

                Pico 4 vrs Quest 2

While both headsets are built on top of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon XR2 processor, Pico 4 will bring 8GB of RAM to Quest 2’s 6GB. Additionally Pico 4 aims to be more compact than Quest 2 with the addition of ‘pancake optics’ which should reduce the bulk of the headset thanks to a folded optical path. Additionally the Pico 4 is sporting a slightly higher resolution at 2,160 × 2,160 (4.7MP) per-eye compared to Quest 2’s 1,832 × 1,920 (3.5MP).

Pico today announced the Pico 4 standalone VR headset, with pricing and content aspirations that make it clear the company hopes to compete directly with Quest 2. The headset will launch in October starting in Europe and some Asian regions, with no plans for a US launch just yet. Pico has been making VR headsets for …

Not going to pu pu $550 but it's still a quality price for a premium headset which I was hoping for that $500 price point. You're also able to preorder now thru Playstation Direct and await a reply email back which I'm hearing are already in progress.

If you want a different perspective.

                          Re: PS VR

We now know that Meta's Quest 2 is $100 higher at $399. While some other prices have fluctuated up and down with sales they have roughly stayed the same. The HP Reverb is a quality headset that has now lowered their price to $550 currently. However, many have rated the headset comfort as poor and it's still not as highly rated in technology as PSVR2. So where does PSVR2's headset fall into? Arguably above the Valve Index/Pro but below the Pro 2.
