I definitely feel like I was very lucky to get my Switch. I called GameStop everyday once they mentioned a re-stocking date, and while my store didn't get any back in March, they did clue me in to the online bundle that was available, and I managed to get that before it disappeared.

Re: Nintendo Switch Discussion
That may be true but that doesn't really matter. It is said no matter how much money someone has they don't like to lose money and I am sure they would always like to have more money.Comment

Demand will have people happy to pay for those two games many would probably buy anyways. Surprised it's not another $50 tbh.Comment

Re: Nintendo Switch Discussion
Listen I get it Nintendo doesn't stock maybe its on purpose maybe its just due to them being cautious and not wanting stock sitting on shelves making the brand look not wanted or something
but the fact remains
Nintendo launched at least 2 million units as a first run. Out of maybe about half of those were pre orders im gathering so that left 1 million for ppl JUST waltzing in and grabbing the limited extras each store got after pre orders etc.
With many ppls thinking of "Oh i should just walk in and buy one" would mean that like every store would have to get something like 100 extra units...
No store No company has ever done that not with pairs of one jean a shoe or even refrigerators its moreso a stock and see thing
Much easier for companies to say we'll have more or we're getting more from nintendo soon than stockpiling all that merch and it not selling....Brand New Tomba Slider sets ready for Next Gen Versions of NBA,Madden and Fifa Stay Tuned...Comment

Keep in mind the very deliberate headline about their sales. Fastest selling Nintendo console.
Out of curiosity I'll take a link to your figures on preorders and comparisons to other products though.
The last consoles that had any stigma about not selling were the PS3 and the Wii/Wii U (and maybe the overpriced 3DS initially?). A bit of a false narrative with the 'don't want to see them sitting on a shelf thing' at the height of demand.Comment

Re: Nintendo Switch Discussion
I get not having lots right away perhaps...I suppose then the inability to create supply once they know they need it is a problem.
I'm not their business people or whatever, I'm just a wonk on the internet, but while you may want to manufacture demand a bit, I doubt this is what they'd want ideally. Selling tons of systems is also what helps convince 3rd parties to develop for you.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

Re: Nintendo Switch Discussion
I think it's fine initially that they manufactured 2 million units, 1 mil for pre-orders, and another 1 mil for walk-in customers. But it became apparent well before launch date that the store allocations were all going to sell out immediately. That's when the Big N should have gone into overdrive manufacturing more, instead of sticking hard-fast to the 2 million unit decision. Because now they are releasing more units to stores in piecemeal fashion, so that each store only gets like 10 units every few weeks, requiring people to get to stores hours before they open like it's Black Friday.
I have no doubt the Switch will continue to sell well. Mario Kart 8 releases in 9 days, and that should be another huge draw (unless you already had it on the Wii U). But Nintendo could have way more sales than it does now. Yes, there were going to be shortages. Yes, other consoles like the Xbox 360 had initial supply shortages too. But well over 1 month past launch date, you could walk into any store and exit with a brand new 360. THe point is, the shortages didn't have to be to this degree.
I know low supply increases demand, and Nintendo loves the hype they are getting and the people clamoring for limited stock. But the hype and clamoring were there at the beginning, and instead of Nintendo crowing that this is the "fastest selling Nintendo console ever," they possibly could have been crowing that this the "fastest selling console ever." I say possibly because I don't know for sure. But I do know Nintendo could have way more sales. Ultimately, Splatoon 2 releases this summer, and there's a new Mario at Christmas Time. So I believe the hype will continue. But there will also be people who might get frustrated at being unable to get one and give up. Even if that's a small number, it's still a small number that there didn't have to be. Basically, the Big N should, and could, have done better.Comment

Video games are a short market, in that it trends. You should strike when the iron is hot. Right now it doesn't get any hotter and they should have product in the store for anyone that wants one.
It's really stupid they don't. And it's even more stupid if they think it's a good thing.Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20

Re: Nintendo Switch Discussion
They've been refilling shelves every week around me. I find it no different than most other console launches. PS4, 360 were hard to find for a few months as well.
