Stadia isn't out until after the new expansion, so most who play will already own it.

The key w/ the controller as I understand it is that it's bluetooth, many console controllers aren't. Otherwise, yeah, that's part of their appeal is you can use whatever you have, as long as you can connect it to the compatible device.

As to compatible devices, haven't seen anything about a slowed roll out of them other than the initial compatibility w/ Pixel phones in particular. No specifics were offered about tablets (almost certainly just a certain Android version and certain amount of RAM, excluding budget tablets) and most/all PCs and Laptops should be fine, Chromebooks as well.

No reason not to wait if you have any doubt. We can use the Chromecast if it doesn't work out, it will replace the v1 (very first version!) Chromecast I've got in the office, one of 4 Chromecasts and 4 other Google displays in our house.

xCloud may have the better value proposition for many, depending on your investment in that ecosystem.

What we really need is cross-buy on these services, even if that required me to be an EA/Origin subscriber to enable it, bring it on. Please.
The controller is wifi, right? So it connects direct to Stadia, letting you play on chromecasts and things without needing to connect a controller to that device.

I'm really seeing the questions on value though. like you say, xCloud would be better for me being in the MS ecosystem, and it'd take quite a bit to make me want to jump for Stadia, especially when their exclusive games will take a while to develop. Plus having a console is nice for at home when I don't need to use all that bandwidth.

As long as ISP providers use data caps, this sort of thing won't take off for the masses.

Much the way digital gaming won't because downloading games means you purchased a license and not an actual game disc. And once they remove those games from the servers and/or you delete them, it's gone forever.

I agree, as long as everyone believes all the FUD they read/spread they won't be able to understand or accept streaming/digital gaming...

Yeah...I don't think I'll be upgrading to no cap anytime soon...it's like 50 bucks more or something like that. I tend to max out right now at 800 GB if I'm downloading a ton from Game Pass, otherwise it's a lot less...

I'll be interested in the numbers on streaming data usage for this and xCloud when they're both live.

Re: Stadia / Streaming

I've pretty much turned a blind eye to the details of Stadia, while acknowledging it's existence and have had really no interest in it... until now.

But I am so freaking confused how the pricing works. I know they're giving a 3-month "Pro" subscription, but, if you don't have the sub, you need to buy games individually? Does anyone know how this works?

I've just read a couple articles saying wait until 2020, as the pricing and whatnot is changing... making things more confusing.

For as massively huge as they are, Google still finds ways to make things complicated and confusing when they don't have to be.

I just wish I understood it all. Is it basically like Gamepass? Pay for the sub, get access to everything, or don't sub and buy games individually? I haven't seen any pricing info for games.

The concept is awesome with all the available options to play. I'm thinking of it more for the kids (instead of buying a second console) but really like the idea for traveling, etc.

If you want 4K you pay for the subscription and you pay for the games or you get 1080p for free but you still pay for the games is how I understand it.

Roadmap released today, nothing really of note other than they are going to have exclusivity of some kind on 10 releases.

Any games releasing first on Stadia instead of PC/Console would seem to be a pretty big / expensive deal.

Watch it be DLC exclusivity or something. I can't imagine full game exclusive on a huge game, that would be insane amount and possibly cost that dev money because reviews might suck on the game and no one buys it later.

More competition out of beta: Geforce Now.

https://www.theverge.com/2020/2/4/21121996/nvidia-geforce-now-2-0-out-of-beta-rtx?utm_campaign=theverge&utm_content=chorus&utm_m edium=social&utm_source=twitter
Today, the company’s finally ready to let North America and Europe sign up to pay for its GeForce Now service, starting at $5 a month, while also offering unlimited one-hour free trials that don’t even require a credit card.

...

Unlike Google, Sony, and Microsoft’s offerings, Nvidia has a very different pitch. It’s your existing library of PC games that you can now play anywhere, instead of having to buy new games and / or subscribe to a Netflix-like catalog. Nvidia supports Steam, the Epic Games Store, Battle.net, and Uplay, and it runs instances of each for you in the cloud. You can log into your accounts, download many of your existing purchases near-instantly to your cloud desktop, sync your old save games, and pick up where you left off in a couple of minutes at most — no patches necessary.

That sounds pretty cool....Stadia is still getting killed right now, even by the most fervent backers in Reddit. It's coming time where they have to sign up for Pro now (vs. the free 3 months or whatever) and people aren't seeing value.
