When it comes to over all games I am not sure if I would say things have gotten worse but when it comes to sports games they have gotten worse for sure. Madden in a lot of ways plays a worse game then it did during the ps2/xbox/gamecub gen and its franchise mode is worse and mlb the show graphics didn't improve that much this gen. Then you have the fact that we dont have multiple sports games for eatch sport like we used to and no like really good extreme sports games like NHL hitz or Tony hawk or any thing. I used to love tony hawk wish we had a newer Tony hawk that had todays graphics but played like Tony hawk 3,4, under ground 1 or 2.

God of War, Spider Man, Horizon, etc. are already 4K CBR and the difference between CBR and Native is minimal and unless you're someone who literally counts pixels, you won't know the difference.

March would be a rush because the games wouldn't be ready and I don't want Death Stranding, Ghost of Tsushima and The Last of Us Part 2 being cross-gen. I want them all out BEFORE PlayStation 5 launches. Plus, there will be way too many games coming out in 2020 and the majority would not be cross-gen because they most likely wouldn't have the time to port them over and if they did, could end up being a rush job.

I can guarantee that PS5 was never ever 2019 simply because it would make no sense. PS5 is going to be the second highest selling console of all time (with an outside shot at surpassing PS2 depending on how long Sony manufactures the console and the price) and Sony has literally no reason to rush out PS5 while PS4 is still selling insane numbers despite being $300 and $400 respectively. Also, March 2020 would mean that we would be waiting an extra six months for the next blockbuster exclusive to release.

You know that you can still get a 4K TV now and still play PS5 on that 4K TV. You don't have to wait until PS5 to get a 4K TV bud. And if anything, November 2020 would actually help you because with Black Weekend sales, you could most likely buy a new 4K HDR TV for less money than what you would be spending six months earlier.
I understand what you are saying about 4k and it not being 4k all the time and such but un less you have a pro or xbox one x you dont get any 4k, and I figured it was better to just wait for ps5 then getting a pro. So I never got a pro I dont like the whole mid gen upgrade idea. I am expecting next ps5 will be just about all 4k games with some at 30 FPS and some at 60 FPS. I dont care if its 30 or 60 I cant tell the difference and I have seen a lot that tells me most people cant tell the difference either no matter what they say. As long has it is a 30 FPS with out dropping its just fine. Now if it drops to like 25 or something a lot then we have a problem.

There is no way to known if games wouldn't be ready by march or not and even if it is march I am pretty sure at least 2 of the big 3 ps4 games left will be out before march any way and then you could maybe have the other one be cross gen. So what if a lot of 2020 games wouldn't be cross gen not ever thing has to be cross gen. March 2020 dosnt mean that the next big game would be like 6 months out if Horizon is a launch game and with it being 3 years sense the first game Horizon 2 out in march 2020 should be realistic. I already have a 4k TV but I am not buying a pro its not worth it to me when ps5 is not really that far off and again I dont like the mid gen upgrade thing. So I have regular ps4 and it dont do 4k and I am waiting for ps5 now for 4k video games. I got a newer 4k TV back in late 2016 and not because I was going to get a pro but because I had the same tv sense 2007 before that and was just ready for a new bigger and better tv went from 37 inch to 55 inch tv. I dont buy new Tv's that often and so unless I like win a lot of money I will most likely not be getting a new TV for like another 8 years or something. I am 30 and I have had 3 TV's in my life.

Except none of those things were asserted. 'will take 7-8 years to add all the features back' ... in Madden there hasn't been a feature reset since... 06? 13 years ago? CFM changed a lot of things and there has been stagnation, but it had nothing to do with any console transition.

Yeah, I could make a huge list of games I’ve played since PS4/One dropped that are some of the best games I’ve ever played. I pretty much gave up on sports games a few years ago though so maybe that is possibly where the issue is for some.

Re: Sony releases first new details of the next PS PS5

I'll grab the PS5 around launch. I'm not with that camping out at Best Buy stuff. But I'll grab one after that initial wave subsides and I can just walk into a store and buy one. I think it'll be worth the upgrade, however slight,to current games if indeed it is backwards compatible.

Gaming is pretty much all I do as far as digital entertainment. I like the ease of use with consoles and being able to seamlessly go from playing a game, to watching something on Netflix or Hulu with my wife, then picking up where I left off. Plus, I'm not expecting anything groundbreaking. I expect the same games I like to look better, load faster and play smoother. But that's about it. I'm cool with that.

I don't disagree with some of what you are saying. Sports gaming has become very stagnant. Madden and The Show are both in periods right now where neither has changed too much over the last 3 to 4 years. NHL is neglected consistently. Only NBA 2k seems to be the lone console sports game that tries to really add as much as it can between cycles.

I also agree that a lot of games these days have gotten prettier and prettier, but the gameplay and AI especially remain the same as 5-10 years ago. That is my biggest issue with gaming as a whole the last 5+ years. AI improvements just aren't there and all of the focus has been on the visuals. I understand why, but I don't support it.

As for your comment that I left in the quoted part, I do disagree here. One reason I hardly use my PS4 anymore is I've simply gotten to a point where 30 fps is not enjoyable to me. Anything below 60 is entering choppy in my opinion. I know plenty of people say they can't tell a difference between 30 and 60. If that is the truth, good for you(and I truly mean this, don't take it disrespectfully). I often wish I could enjoy sub 60 fps, but it really does seem choppy to me anymore. That is honestly one of the biggest reasons I spend the majority of my time gaming on a PC and not a console anymore. Playing GTA V on the PC at 120+ frames and then going to it on my PS4 is just near impossible for me.

Hell, I was watching someone play Just Cause 4 in 4k on the X1X a few weeks back and as pretty as it was for a console game it looked like it was a slideshow. To me, to get me to want to hop into the new generation of consoles these manufacturers would need to make a mandate that every game runs at a stable 60 frames minimum. After that I would need to see better exclusives and sports games would need to start making much better progress. However, with Madden coming to PC and hopefully NHL this next year that will give me even less reason to want to jump into the next generation of consoles. Baseball may be my favorite sport, but The Show simply is not good enough for me to make the same mistake I did this generation in buying a PS4 for it. I expected that series to make more leaps than it did after all of the hype it got in the PS3 generation, but it's ultimately made less progress with its gameplay than Madden has this generation in my opinion which is very disappointing.

These next machines better be able to do 4K at 60 FPS without breaking a sweat. No jet fan noises.

This has always been so arbitrary to me. It's just not necessary for some titles and not always worth the resources required that could sometimes be better used elsewhere.

I tend to think the 60fps lock is needed for the online based games vs. stuff that isn't as twitch dependent. It may be a while until a 4k 60fps lock is possible for every game, I think even the highest end PCs can struggle a bit with some games/situations.

The multiple skus happen because I think companies either have made it cheaper/easier to offer them (not as much of a risk) and it does give the people an option. Opens the high end systems to be more powerful because they're not as worried about pricing themselves out.

4k 60fps being the standard is probably too much if the consoles are coming out within a year. I'd think they would need another 2-3 years if that was the aim of the new generation.

Plus if you add ray tracing and things like that it'll be tougher. You add other hardware intensive features, so benefits, but hits the framerate.

I hope they implement a better cloud sync method. Current one is just lazy and old. Also I'd like to be able to see how many of my friends play a game before purchasing. I can't believe I even have to ask for these two things in 2019.

How does Sony/PS4 do cloud sync?

I know it's automatic on Xbox, but it's minorly annoying if one system (my bedroom, for instance) hasn't updated the cloud yet but I want to continue a game downstairs. IE I played in bed the night before then want to play downstairs next morning. Usually it's not bad, but no real way to force a update I think.

It's a nightly upload thing, sort of like a nightly backup. That by itself isn't the worst part. I'm rarely switching devices that quickly. Regardless, Xbox's is better.

The real rub for me is that it doesn't do it at all for devices that aren't my user's primary console. My scenario is fairly common for households that have multiple consoles and kid gamers. We have a Playstation in the family room (my user's primary PS4 so that the kids can my digital game library without using my account). I have a Playstation in my office that I use for most of my gaming. However, because my office Playstation is not my primary PS4, my saves are not uploaded to the cloud. Because of that, even though I pay for Plus, I have to manually backup my stuff and/or hope that my drives don't die.

Even if I were to purchase a second PS Plus subscription for one of my son's and associate my office PS4 to their account, it still wouldn't upload my saves, only theirs.

It's truly a lazy system. It feels like they kind of noticed the issues they would have to deal with based on this nightly system, and were like, "Yeah, let's not deal with all of that and just do it this way".

Sony engineering is really quite frustrating and short sighted sometimes. See: this and PSN name change re-architecture
