That's a pretty crummy implementation, had no idea it was like that, hopefully it improves.

Yeah, wow, I didn't know it was that annoying. It always backs my stuff up, i've just occasionally had issues switching devices (and once I lost about an hour of gaming cause I wasn't careful). It's been better lately though!

If the PS5 is backwards compatible will it be able to play physical copies of PS4 games? I would appreciate it if it does.

I know it's automatic on Xbox, but it's minorly annoying if one system (my bedroom, for instance) hasn't updated the cloud yet but I want to continue a game downstairs. IE I played in bed the night before then want to play downstairs next morning. Usually it's not bad, but no real way to force a update I think.
For Xbox you can force it to sync immediately if you actually quit the game - go to home screen, press menu on tile, choose close.

As others have said, PS4 isn't great. It will backup on your main ps4 (I think it used to be nightly but I thought it was updated at some point to do it upon closing the game.) The real issue is going to your non main system to continue. You have to manually go to cloud saves to download, then manually go to cloud saves to upload. And you need ps+ to be able to use it too.

I had no clue that closing the game would make it do it immediately! That's great to know for the future, thanks!

That manual upload/download is insane though...I would screw that up way too often. I know I'm not the "norm" with multiple consoles, but I do think that as time goes on more and more people will have multiple.
