Re: New PlayStation 5 Details Revealed, Arrives Next Holiday Season
With concerns over the technical requirements of the SSD hardware and lack of available aftermarket options, I'm surprised Sony isn't going to release and brand their own proprietary SSDs that fit all their criteria. I'm not saying those SSDs have to be exclusive or the only ones that work with a PS5, but it seems like it would provide a decent revenue stream for Sony to give that option to consumers.
Certainly, the more options the better, and it might help the less tech savvy populace to see "PS5" or Sony branded SSDs that are immediately and obviously compatible with the new system. Some aftermarket / third-party drives will still work, of course, this is merely a way for Sony to get head of the curve until PCIe 4.0 becomes more mainstream.
Overall, the system sounds intriguing, and going strictly to an SSD platform is smart. The price is a slight concern, but I'm less worried about raw power anymore. A 60 FPS baseline is more appealing.
I'm not concerned about power difference. I'm not concerned about 1st party games because I know they will be capable to tap into the full power. But I just hope we see 4k60 on 3rd party games.Comment

Re: New PlayStation 5 Details Revealed, Arrives Next Holiday Season
The third party vs. first party discussions i've seen on Twitter are interesting. Basically all first party devs are loving the SSD speed, but third party ones think it's cool but realize they end up developing for PC (or Xbox) as well, so might not dive in for those advantages.
I doubt it'll be a big issue and they'll all be great, but something I was reading as this debate swirls.
I wish the companies could just release early due to the coronavirus lol....that'd get a lot of sales.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

Update on BC from sony
A quick update on backward compatibility – With all of the amazing games in PS4’s catalog, we’ve devoted significant efforts to enable our fans to play their favorites on PS5. We believe that the overwhelming majority of the 4,000+ PS4 titles will be playable on PS5.
We’re expecting backward compatible titles will run at a boosted frequency on PS5 so that they can benefit from higher or more stable frame rates and potentially higher resolutions. We’re currently evaluating games on a title-by-title basis to spot any issues that need adjustment from the original software developers.
In his presentation, Mark Cerny provided a snapshot into the Top 100 most-played PS4 titles, demonstrating how well our backward compatibility efforts are going. We have already tested hundreds of titles and are preparing to test thousands more as we move toward launch. We will provide updates on backward compatibility, along with much more PS5 news, in the months ahead. Stay tuned!Retro Redemption - Starting over with a oldschool PowerBone Offense

Re: New PlayStation 5 Details Revealed, Arrives Next Holiday Season
People dont realize that Sony PS5 is a 9.3tf gpu with much lower compute units and reaches 10.7tf only at max clock speeds which will not occur often and not in AAA games. In most demanding games the XBOX SX will keep the locked status and power draw all the time while the PS5 will fall somewhere in the middle of that 9.3tf and 10.7
Combine with a faster CPU on the XBOX and RAM it wil be a gap that will show big time in multiplat games
The SSD advantage for Sony will be felt in their exclusives only in any important way over XBComment

With that said, PS5 will be amazing but im seeing a $400 price tag and I would have preferred that Sony would have legitimately gone all out with a $500 console instead.
I'm expecting Sony's exclusives to be amazing as for the most part they usually are but im expecting all third party multi-platform titles to be better on Series X. But we'll see how it all turns out.Comment

I wonder if we will get to see the console and controller and hear about a few more features in like April/may and then in June/July get game announcements or what. Or will Sony say like nothing before June/July and then just give us console, controller and features and games all at once.Comment
