You may not like scalpers, and I don't either, but Sony already sold the system. They don't care what the person they sold it to does with it.

But they should for good will and keep their customers loyal. There will come a time when they will move on to something else and then what??...

Ok, what should they do other than your first suggestion? Sony has very little control over scalpers. That is something that more less lies with the retailer. And there is very little they can do as well.

Your first suggestion of "goodwill" would have alienated more customers than it would have helped.

Also, good will or loyalty programs and whatnot, they are mostly an illusion to make customers think they are getting a better deal. A grocery store with a loyalty card will give you access to "deals" such as four 12 packs of pop/soda for $12 when normally they would be $15. Great deal. However that same store raises prices on other items you are likely to get to absorb that cost.

So again, it all comes down to money. There is no such thing as a free lunch and the house always wins.

I’m sure Sony doesn’t like scalpers cuz they aren’t the ones buying games, getting PS+. Sony’s own website has bot protection but they can’t do anything about Walmart. Sure they could give Walmart no consoles but then Walmart won’t sell games etc.

Reselling is happening everywhere got to get over it. Crying won't get you nowhere. Your best bet is to research how they are getting 10 and you cant get one and adapt. Hell 2020 Corvettes are Reselling, The Ford Bronco. US Mint coins, Cards, shoes, tickets, etc...

Where there is profit there are resellers.

I sold my PS5 for 1100 after a guy begged me and just had to wait until I got another one from Costcos eventually.

Yeah, I posted a while back about sports cards. It's crazy. $100 hobby boxes are going for $300. And as long as people keep paying for them, it won't stop.

However, it will eventually end with consoles once they are readily available. Just have to deal with it. You can't expect free stuff or special treatment from companies like Sony because of it. Topps doesn't give a crap if I can't find a box of baseball cards at Walmart.

                This is the truth.

On a side note, I also collect cards as well and Covid has increased the craziness in the card hobby. Its crazy what hobby boxes are going for. Glad to see someone else on OS who is in the hobby as well.

Even if Sony/Microsoft doesn't flood the market, everyone should be able to place an order online or physically at the major retailers. It may come with the caveat that it may take a while until you get your product but you known it's coming when more are available. That would cut back on the scalpers a bit. It would also help with the sites crashing from traffic whenever orders become available. If you just gotta have it now, ok, there's the scalpers market. It's a free country. I'd imagine most people would be content to have an order in paying MSRP and wait than being gouged.

Just learning from my economics classes throughout college, I completely understand scalping.

Now, should you buy from a scalper? If you're financially steady, and desire a product enough, go for it.

Economically, scalping makes sense. In theory the PS5 could have been priced likely $100 more for both consoles and done just as well as it did, and with the higher price tag it could have fended off scalpers somewhat. This hasn't completely isolated a fan base, has it caused a big uproar? Absolutely, but overall, lots are still enjoying a gaming console.

The whole reason for scalpers is the price and supply were low enough to issue a bigger demand for them. Really, really basic economics.

Now, reading through this thread lately has been a headache. There is not a single good way to stop this from happening, ESPECIALLY during a pandemic. Can we please stop bringing up what if scenarios, and clogging down this thread?

Basically, stop pretending you know more than what you do. This has happened, you will eventually get your PS5.

I mean, people act like scalpers/bots bought every single console available and are holding them ransom. You didn't get one, sorry about your luck but damn to throw a tantrum and to make ridiculous claims and analogies, come on.

I promise, the sun will rise tomorrow and if you want a PS5, you will eventually get one.

Now back to actually helping people find one....it appears that Best Buy is just randomly releasing them without announcing times or anything. I would suggest actively looking on their site for availability.

My only issue is having a PS5 that will only playPS4 games. EveryPS5 game crashes on launch. Sony says be patient but they charged me when it shipped.

I'm confused are you saying that your PS5 crashes when playing PS5 games or that you've read that it crashes and your waiting for it to arrive?

When I attempt to play PS5 games, my PS5 crashes. I can play PS4 games in it just fine.

That sucks and is odd. It seems like ps5 has a lot more issues than normal for a Sony console. I have had 8 crashes/freezes already my self that is a lot for not even a month.
