This way you eliminate scalpers & bots from pigging in & pigging out on all the new systems where legit people can't get em..

Screw the pandemic stop making these systems online orders only right now.. as it's being abused..

If not law enforcement,Sony,Microsoft & these stores need to put a stop to it by cracking down & enforcing the law..

Cause if they crack down on it I can guarantee you it will stop.

Unfortunately, scalping on places like eBay is not illegal and there is nothing anyone can do to stop it.

Also, there was a bill introduced a few years ago called the Stopping Grinch Bots Act. However, this has not been enacted into law yet.

So again, law enforcement can't do anything about it at this point.

The onus lies on the retailers to try to stop it, but even they have very limited means to do so. The problem is, the more security steps put in place to stop bots could affect the ability for actual people who just want one system to get one because it could potentially see them as a bot as well. So it's a very fine line online retailers have to tow.

Hopefully stores will start to stock them. Sony did say that they will be sending stock to retailers soon and they should be available through the end of the year. Just gotta keep an eye out.

Correct... I think the only way they could possible slow it down is making it a two factor purchase method.

The only way to stop scalpers is to stop buying from them.

What world do you live in where buying something and re-selling it is illegal and the police should be involved? Sony and Microsoft have absolutely zero way of cracking down on any of this as well. You can be irritated that you've had no luck getting one but Sony and Microsoft have no control over scalpers and the police have zero grounds to intervene.

Supply and demand man. No different then when Foot locker gets a limited supply of Jordans and they are sold out in minutes. And you see them on ebay later on for double or triple the price

Can't blame people for doubling their profits. If people want to pay 1400 for a ps5. Can you blame them for selling them?

This same thing has happened with sports cards this year.

People are literally stalking the people who show up at Walmart and Target to stock the cards. They are then buying every single pack and box and selling it for sometimes triple on ebay. And people buy it like crazy.

There have actually been fights in the stores over getting the cards. Also a guy was charged with stalking the stocker.

Card values have been driven up through the roof. Earlier this year, a player named Jasson Dominguez, who is in the Yankees organization, who has played one minor league season, his autographs and parallel cards were selling for thousands.

Zion Williamson cards are insane. People have paid five figures for them. People pay over 1K to get into box breaks just to have a chance to randomly get the Pelicans. But if they get lucky they could sell that card for thousands.

It's the retail card market that has been the most ridiculous. Which stands to reason, since retail is basically in the same category as a game system. Although you pretty much can only get those cards in stores.

It's all supply and demand. Shoes, game systems, sports cards. It's all crazy.

My co worker does that for baseball cards. He knows when the grocery store restocks and is always there to buy them then resale them.

I see it with clearances for electronics and games at place like Walmart and Target. You can grab some deals, but most of the time you run into people who know the mark down schedule and buy up 10 copies of a game to resell.

Had it in my cart during both waves on Wal-Mart the other night and got to submit order but it just wouldn't go through either time. I was spamming it on the app on my phone and trying on my laptop but no luck. Lol

Yep. I know here that my Walmart either gets stocked on Thursday's or Friday's. I don't go and wait for them. But I usually do go on those days to check out if there is anything left over. I got lucky last week and got some Topps Update Series. But didn't get anything good other than an Alex Bregman card numbered to /76. Which sells for around $8-10.

Buying retail cards is a huge gamble because hits (autographs and relics) are much more rare to find in retail. And basically in general, like casino's, the house always wins. Well 99% of the time. There are only a handful a players in each sport that are worth big money. And that's part of the allure to it. It's basically gambling. And I've had issues with that in the past when it comes to cards. I buy much less than I used to.

Sorry to take this so off-topic.

Got lucky and was able to snag a digital edition bundle from Gamestop's website. Hopefully it's delivered by the end of next week.

I disagree a bit here. Sony/MS should've known that bots were going to be an issue after what happened with the Switch or even their own pre-order releases. They essentially did nothing about it on a grand scale.

The answer here was obvious. You knew that mega retailers like Walmart, Amazon, and Target were never going to change their purchasing methods for three products so they should've provided more supply to Gamestop, Best Buy, etc. who have a vested interest in keeping their consumers happy in the electronics space. They definitely could've came up with something that limited this. It wouldn't completely solve the issue but it would help.

Instead, they just put their hands up while systems just sit on ebay and stockx not being played.

I think a better way to handle the bots and scalpers is for Sony/Microsoft/Nike whoever, is to open preorders much earlier at the major retailers.

I understand the profit margin is razor thin, if not a loss, on consoles. They make money on software. I get not wanting to over produce and have product sitting on the shelves.

But, if you open up preorders in like Feburary, you have a better idea of legit demand and about how many units need to hit the market. First come, first served. If you preorder day one, you'll likely (not guranteed) to receive the console in the first wave (launch week). Then follow along there after as Sony/Microsoft produce and ship units.

Anyone should be able to go walk into any Walmart or Target right now and physically preorder a console. People may not get it until March, but at they're in the queues and dont have to hope and pray. It would also cut down on the traffic to the sites the moment preorders are up again. I just think a lot of people's frustration stems from not even being able to get close to a console. I think most people would be fine waiting a few months or more for a console over being gauged by scalpers.
