Doing some research it appears this one is newer

Whether that translates into better I'm not sure. But it is a newer model.

Here it is from CircuitCity $260 more for it new.

Anyone know as to whether this would be a good deal or not?

Shoot, if I had the extra cash right now, that 44" Panasonic would be mine. That is a pretty nice TV for the money.

With that said, does anyone know anything about Polaroid LCD's? I have seen some in store, and the picture is just awesome on them. However, I haven't really heard too much regarding the quality.

I can get a 32" HD LCD for $799, which I am really wanting to do. Anyone know anything about them?

I've seen those Polaroid sets in Circuit City, prices seem great compared to other models with the same features.

If you got to avsforum.com, there is about a 100 page threard on the A10s, if you are interested at all. That is the one that I am planning to buy, so that's part of the reason I directed you to it. Everything that I read about it is good. I saw one in HH Gregg a couple weeks ago and the picture looked as good or better than anything they had in the store. What that means, I don't know.

This is the place to talk about Sony's much anticipated A10 series LCD rear projection televisions. Sony is currently releasing new LCD sets for 2005/2006. More info will be added as it becomes available. Please post initial sightings, owner reviews, tweaks/calibration settings...

Right now im leaning towards the refurbished. Basically I've decided against any non widescreen so its either the Panny for $100 more, the Insignia 30" for the same price or the Phillips 30" refurb. I guess most people would still say the refurbished Phillips is better than the new Insignia.

Yeah. I was considering the Insignia but, I just haven't heard enough good things about it ,if anything about it. So I would rather try the refurbished TV.

Hmmm, now that I've seen today's new sales, I'm thinking between these two:

                          Sony 42" LCD rear-projection KDFE42A10 on sale for $1799.99
                          (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1118841724863)

or the 32" Westinghouse LTV-32WI on sale for $899.99
                          (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1110265591303)

Obviously a huge difference in price here. Is the Sony that much better (obviously it's bigger, which accounts for most of the price difference - are we talking way better quality though?)

I'm seriously considering this one as well. I'd like to hear some opinions on this one as well. I'm new to the whole HDTV thing so I'm still a bit confused about everything. The reviews on the site seem to be pretty good, other than having a problem with bulbs burning out or something. I would probably purchase the protection plan, and could save money as long as that was covered.

Also, if I get this TV, what kind of cables should I buy to hook everything up with. I plan on getting and XBox 360 and I have Direct TV so I would want to upgrade to the HDTV box, but not sure what cables would be best. Also, I read that having the HDMI connection was good, but what exactly do you hook up to that?

Another thing, I see this TV has 3 component hook-ups. Can I hook any of these (Broadband, Progressive, Interlaced) or does it have to be a certain one?

Also, what would be a good DVD player for this TV. This would be for later down the road, but I'd like to start looking and trying to learn as much as possible.

                              Thanks

Re: HDTV Questions and Answer Thread

I just got back from CC and Best Buy. Looked at both the 42" Sony KDFE42A10 Rear-Projection LCD on sale for $1799.99, as well as the Panny PT-44LCX65 Rear-Projection LCD you guys are mentioning which is on sale for $1299.99.

Although what I've learned while researching HDTVs the past couple weeks is that there is much to be said for subjectivity, and once you take your set home you'll be happy with most any half-decent HDTV, these two models just didn't cut it for me.

At least in my opinion, the rear-projection LCDs just do not look as good as the flat-panel models. My recommendation would be that, if you go into BB or CC and the picture on the Panasonic for $1299 looks good to you, then go ahead and get it, because that is admittedly an excellent price for a 44" rear-projection LCD. I would also mention that, while Cnet.com did not review the 44" Panny, they did review the 50" model of the same line, and it did not recieve a favorable review. Circuit City customers do seem to like the 44" Panny, though. For me, regardless of the price, the picture didn't do it.

As for the Sony 42" on sale, it was the same thing - picture didn't look as good to me as the 42" lcd flat-panels, and it definitely didn't look as good as the 32" flat-panels. I'd love a 42" hdtv, but at the $1500 - #1800 price-range, I am now pretty set on a 32" lcd flat-panel with great picture instead of a 42" with lesser picture. If I could extend my budget to the $1900 - $2500 range, then I'd obviously start looking at 42" flat-panels, but I can't pay that much.

On another note, it's very clear to me that the Westinghouse 32" lcd flat-panel which is on sale for $899 (great price of course) just doesn't match up with the top of the line 32" lcds, so I couldn't bring myself to get that either, regardless of the excellent savings.

Which takes me back to my original four, although I'm certainly open to anything I may have missed:

                                -Samsung LN-R328W
                                (http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Samsu...oductDetail.do)

                                -Sony Bravia KLV-S32A10
                                (http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Sony-...oductDetail.do)

                                -Panny TC-32LX50
                                (http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Panas...oductDetail.do)

                                -Sharp Aqous LC-32DA5U
                                (http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Sharp...oductDetail.do)

I'm still very interested if people have any opinions to offer on these four sets. From the floor-models I looked at, it appeared to me that the Sony and the Panny seem to have the best pictures, with the Samsung right behind. The Aqous, being by far the cheapest of the three, looked like it was definitely a bit further behind the other three in terms of picture quality. I guess at this point I'm just waiting for the right sale on one of these four models, but I'd be hard-pressed to say with certainty which one of the four I'd definitely want over the others. Any suggestions?
