Buy the SXRD...it's the best TV I've ever seen. I've had it for three months and absolutely LOVE the picture. I'm running HD with a DVI-HDMI cable, 1080i upconverting DVD via HDMI, and 360 and PS2 via component. There is no game lag at all, the colors and grayscale once calibrated are amazing, the sheer number of picture options ensure an eye-popping picture...it's just great!

I was in CC this past weekend and they had the SXRD next to the new 1080p Samsung DLP's and the SXRD still blew them away. I had a 720p DLP for a while, thinking the SXRD was out of my price range but after having repair issues I convinced my wife to drop the extra green on the SXRD and have not regretted it since. 'Home Theater Mag' and 'Sound and Vision' have given the SXRD "Product of the Year" as well as glowing reviews on the set itself. I just love this display! Can't you tell?

If you pick one up I can help with calibration and picture tweaks to ensure the best image possible. Just drop a PM.

We used the BB deal You'll pay it off...no worries. Just make sure it has a solid 30-day return policy in case you get a lemon, and unfortunately, as with all consumer electronics, they do exist.

thanks man, hey can i ask where you got yours at? is it wise to invest in an extended warranty? CC has the 50" for like $3500 but i've found several places on pricegrabber where it's about $2900, but not sure if i want to order online from vendors i've not deal with before.

i just got back from the dentist and had to lay out $2000 though so I'm gonna have to hold off on this until june probably. but i'm pretty sure i'm going ahead with that SXRD set right now.......

The wife gave me the green light BTW. I'm going Saturday to look at it. I gotta get the TV, a new reciever, pick up a 360, and upgrade my DirecTV.....oh so much to do.

I had to get mine at Best Buy since I was doing an exchange with my old DLP. I'm not sure about online vendors but if you do go that route, you can always get the warranty through Sony themselves.

I'll buy it from the actual store. The extended warranty only seems to cover lamp replacement at CC. They mail you a new lamp if it goes out. But the two year cost is like the same as a lamp! I'll see if they have anything else.

Do you have a warranty with Sony?

Mine is through Best Buy...same deal as CC but I think it includes as many bulb replacements as needed. I'll also buy a bulb just to tuck away for future, non-warranty need (even though I'll have upgraded by then anyway). I think it was an extra $350. I've had to use warranties before on my prior HDTV's though, so it's a no-brainer for me.

Hey Jistic, assuming you do go thru with this on Saturday can you please post in here sometime after you have a pros/cons for me (and anyone else) considering this TV. I know you won't get the TV then if you're having them deliver it but if you do get it yourself I mean.

Also, are you getting the 50" or 60" SXRD? I don't have room for the 60" and I think the 50" is big enough for my bedroom anyways (i have a huge bedroom though).

I'll for sure post impressions if I get it. Or when I get it. 50" is plenty for me. I was originally looking at 56" with other models. But when I measured everything it seemed almost too huge. But 50" is perfect for my setup at home.

                        Gentlemen.....the search is now over.

I have offically purchased the SXRD 50". Went to CC yesterday and they had it as their 'featured' set in there home theatre setup where they have the couches etc. It was 3 grand on sale 0% for 25 months.

Well it was playing a standard DVD movie, but I saw a 360 hooked up to it, so of course I said, "Fire this bitch up!". They had Fight Night Round 3 in there (obviously a good choice to showcase the TV) and my wife and I just cried a little admireing the beauty.

Then I asked him to run an HD signal through it and watched another set they had right next to the Sammy's. And once we saw them side by side, we were done shopping. My wife immediately said, "Get the Sony".

I did really like the color on the Sammy's, but it was almost TOO vibrant if that makes any sense. But it was also blurry and grainy. I did NOT see any rainbow effect on the Sammy's. I do think they are a dam fine looking TV, but paying the extra for the Sony is worth is IMO.

I also picked up the 360, I have DirecTV coming out to install the HD dish, and I have my new Yamaha receiver coming this week as well. So in exactly one week all will be up and running and Memorial Day will be Christmas in May!

I did also get the 2yr warranty, in home service, parts etc. and one free lamp replacement for just over $300.

Johnny I'll be asking you next week about tweaking advice for sure.

Odogg, I don't think you can go wrong with either set. But for me the Sony was just that little bit much better picture (my wife actually thought the Sony blew it's doors off..but you know women aren't as smart as us when it comes to this stuff. ?)

Congratulations, jistic! Fluff those sofa cushions, cause you're going to leave a Homer groove! Wait until you watch some sappy love story with your wife, you'll be able to taste the characters' tears!

I know what you mean about the Sammy grainyness. I was in there and they had the SXRD and the new 50" 1080p Sammy DLP and there was no comparison. I'm so pleased with this set!

Enjoy, and don't neglect your son while enjoying the beauty! I'll gladly help with any questions you have, since I've invested too much time (as my wife like's to say) tweaking this baby.

Thanks Jistic for your impressions! I've pretty much decided I'm getting the Sony as well, now just have to finsih getting the $$. I was trying to get on here for the last few days mainly to read your impressions but OS must have been down. Finally got in though and glad to see you got it and are loving it!

Hey one question though. I sit in two different places in my bedroom (on my bed and on my lazy boy) and like to turn the tv slightly when switching places. Is the tv agreeable to do that to you think? i know the sucker's huge and all but it certainly weighs a lot less than my 30" samsung CRT. I just wonder how stable the base is though. What do you think?

                                so what your saying is....

I should get the 60" sony SXRD instead of a DLP?
i just want the best tv available in the 57-60 inch range and i'm willing to throw down $4000 on it.
