Re: HDTV Questions and Answers Thread
I just purchased the Samsung LN-T4061F tonight and it's absolutely fantastic. I was thinking about going with the Sony KDL40V2500 but there was just too great a risk that I'd get the clouding effect that so many seem to have with it. I actually saw it on the display model they had on the floor at BB.
And I had no idea that I'd be able to do 1080p with the 360 over component cables.
Tomorrow I'll be getting the HD set top box from Comcast so I'll be good to go with all my HD programming.New England Patriots

Just to be clear, in case you didn't know, the 360 does games at 1080P with the component cables but if you get the HD-DVD add-on you have to use the VGA hookup to get 1080P there.I just purchased the Samsung LN-T4061F tonight and it's absolutely fantastic. Re: HDTV Questions and Answers Thread
I have a simple question. I have a TV and DVD player that have HDMI, but would it be better to go with a HDMI cable or is component just as good?

Re: HDTV Questions and Answers Thread
HDMI will give you better quality, but if you stay with component cables you will still get an excellent picture. But consider HDMI the top of the line experience...for now.
Don't pay $100 for one of these cables..go online and search or go to radio Shack. Don't buy them from one of the major electronic store (CC, BestBuy)..they will charge an arma and leg for Monster cables.

That's a nice setup. I've got to consolidate and tidy up mine. Too many wires all over the place.Comment

Very nice. Is that a DirecTV HDDVR? If so, I'd be interested to hear what you think of it.Comment

Re: HDTV Questions and Answers Thread
Yes, it is a Directv HD-DVR. So far, I'm liking it much better than I ever imagined. I was a long time Tivo user and I never thought I could get use to something else. However, being able to hit the 30 second skip button so many times is really nice.
If you have it installed make sure you have the installer download the latest software update. I didnt and I was having problems. However, since its downloaded its been great. Now my only problem is the installer did a crappy job of setting up the dish and I've been losing the signal at times. A supervisor tech is coming to fix it this week.XBOX Live Gamertag: pb4201

I had one of these installed in January, one month later I was ready to throw the thing thru a window:Yes, it is a Directv HD-DVR. So far, I'm liking it much better than I ever imagined. Since then it's gotten significantly better (at least it actually records the shows it's supposed to). I read over at DBSTalk that DirectTV is sending out periodic "stealth" software updates to fix some of this units more glaring issues.Originally posted by coogrfanJust a quick update - my opinion has gone from "serviceable" to "barely tolerable".
The DirecTV HR20 has only been available for a short time, and in it's current state it is the buggiest piece of home electronic equipment I have ever seen. I've experienced freezes, audio dropouts, programs that claim to have been recorded that turn out to be nothing but a black screen, and now the freaking thing has started cancelling recordings for no apparent reason.
A poster over at DBSTalk.com described it best when he called it "a Beta, and a fairly early one at that". It's obvious DTV pushed this thing out the door before it was ready, hoping to "fix it on the back end" via software updates. The basics are there to make it a very good DVR, but as it stands now it simply cannot be relied upon to do it's job as designed. Anyone considering getting one might want to wait a few months for some of it's more glaring issues to be resolved.
I miss TiVo.
Now if they would just add- a skip to the end/beginning function;
- the ability to pause one channel while surfing on the other tuner (a la TiVo);
