    Leaky Beat Vault ... 9th Wonder ... A

These instrumentals will keep you freestyling on the reg with great samples and the sound of 9th at it's finest. There isn't a bad track on here and the increments of voice dubbing from mixer DJ Cuzzin' B... it's perfect timing, and the 47-minute one-tracker is the right amount of time to go through one session. Best beat on here is at 32:57

    Venom ... Chaundon ... A-

Chaundon has a really unique rapper voice that I couldn't help but hate at first but grown to love over time. In the midst of the 55 minute one-tracker I thought I heard a collabo with 50 Cent but I could be very wrong. The production is out of this world on some songs and you can hear the 9th and Khrysis work being done on it. I like used beat selection. "My Humps" by Fergie redone by Chaundon? Sign me up!

    Getback Sampler ... Little Brother ... A-

Probably one song or so I didn't like and I feel like Phonte has been much funnier on other skits, but not going to lie... I'm very very very excited for the official release. The track "That Ain't Love" which is apparently featuring Rookie of the Year candidate Jozeemo, sounds like it may make my head explode when I get a glance at the WHOLE track.

Even if you reduce New York City to the one burrough of Brooklyn... New York, New York would win City of the Year most likely this season. The wait couldn't have been longer but 9th Wonder is finally out with The Dream Merchant 2 and Brooklyn shines because of it. 9th has a underdog cast that wins the crowd. He also includes fellow Brooklyn natives Skyzoo, Sean Price, and Buckshot who are all having incredible success in 2007.

It's a style that has to be liked from the get-go. If you don't find yourself feeling 9th, you aren't going to feel this cd. It will remain tight in your mind but you won't go back to listen. I am a 9th freak. I love this album simply for it's amazing production. It's new and refreshing beats from the same ol' 9th Wonder and much hasn't changed. He still comes equipped with the same drum patterns, 4:00 track-loops, choppin' and screwin' with some classics with mic killing from Jean Grae.

Some gems are dropped on this album for real. There are a few duds that might drop the grade a tad, but overall if you like 9th Wonder, you will play this album a great deal. 9th seemed to be a ghost for most of the year after producing a few tracks for Sean Price like "Violent". He only recently came back into the spotlight with a few mixtape trackbangers and a whole instrumental gem in the "Leaky Beat Vault" which I will be reviewing shortly. 9th Wonder is most definitely the merchant of dreams.

          Nominations Following Release
          Producer of the Year
Beat of the Year: 9th Wonder's "Saved"
Hook of the Year: Big Treal's "Baking Soda" by 9th Wonder
City of the Year: New York, NY
Featured Artist of the Year: Buckshot
          Rookie of the Year: Jozeemo
Reminisce is a hot song. You might all recognize the sample from somewhere, but you may not be able to put your finger on it. The song is "What Am I Supposed to Do?" by O.C, and it's fire.

I'm not big on 9th anymore, but this album is definately hot if you're a fan of 9th, no doubt. Pretty much every song is classic 9th front to back.

Behind the Album: Little Brother - "Get Back" by Big Pooh

On naming the album "Get Back" - as told to ThaFormula.Com
Big Pooh: As far as the title, "Get Back" was just a record that when we actually got started on it we were just recording trying to figure out how we wanted to really approach the record. We came up with the title "Get Back" man because we just felt that we needed to get back to a place where we was just having fun making music again. It's easy to get lost within the industry and start worrying about everything other than the music. You start worrying about album sales and you're worrying about who is gonna be on your record, who ain't gonna be on your record and what label you are on or whatever. You just start worrying about a whole bunch of stuff other than the music and we just wanted to get back to just having fun and recording and not over thinking everything and just enjoying ourselves. So that's how we came up with the title "Get Back," and I think all the records on the album reflect that. It's just us, ain't nobody mad at the industry, none of that. We are just talking about what's going on in our lives and just having fun on the record.
Track 1 "Sirens" Ft. Carlitta Durand - as told to ThaFormula.Com
Big Pooh: That track is a funny one actually. That originally wasn't on the album. We had another record in its place to start the album off. "Sirens" was produced by Illmind. He actually had sent that beat to us a long time ago and Tay (Phonte) was just going through old beats and we was just trying to find some more tracks for the album and record as much as possible. He sent that beat back to me and said "yo I'm ****ing with this joint right here man, I think this can end up becoming the first track on the record." I was like, "Word? Well I don't know, lets record it and see how it do," because I was feeling the track that we had in the beginning at first. I was really, really running with that one. So when we came in, we was just trying to think what we were gonna do and it was like "yo how you wanna approach this track or whatever?" and we just sat and started thinking about all the stuff we had just recently been through and decided to talk about that. So it turned into a catching people up to date type of song. Like get you current as to our frame of mind and where we were in our lives and I just approached my verse like that. Around that time is when they was talking about burying the word "*****" and the Don Imus situation happened and I was just sitting there thinking to myself "man there is so many bigger issues in this world that we need to be worrying about then a 'word', we've got bigger problems going on especially in the black community rather than somebody using the word '*****' or 'ho'."

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)
