Re: fans of underground rap?
yeah i forgot to list the R&B artists, but most of them are featured by the rap artists I listen to...
I love the Temptations... they are timeless to me... always put me in a good mood. And I'm not just talkin' about Greatest Hits compilations... I'm talkin about the whole deal... my fave song is "Treat Her Like a Lady" tho... who woulda thought? 1980's Temps were not super popular by any means.SAN ANTONIO SPURSComment

Look up Oren Lavie. I don't like his voice at all but the arrangements in the music are crazy.Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.

Re: fans of underground rap?
Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers
Thelonius Monk
Ahmad Jamal (!)
Yusef Lateef (great world/funky jazz)
David Axelrod (you'll hear samples all over the place)
Bill Evans (piano jazz at its finest)
McCoy Tyner (more great piano jazz.. he was Coltrane's pianist during the Quartet years)
Dave Brubeck (even more piano -- most inventive time signatures and feels of the era)
Ornette Coleman
Eric Dolphy (a bit "out there" like Ornette, not for everyone)
Charlie Parker (be-bop son!)
Dexter Gordon (great sax tone, classic tunes)
Jimmy Smith (owned the HELL out of the Hammond B3)
Kenny Burrell (great jazz guitar, his album with Jimmy Smith is classic)
Chet Baker (nice trumpet player, great smooth voice.. sexin' music haha)
Chick Corea (nice fusion stuff, great keyboard/piano player)
Jaco Pastorius (best electric jazz bass player.. solo stuff is incredible.. he was from "Weather Report", probably the most famous fusion group)
Lionel Hampton (king of the vibraphone, probably my favorite jazz instrument)
Horace Silver (Madlib says "Hi")
Wayne Shorter (great "cool jazz")
Wes Montgomery (probably the most famous/distinctive jazz guitarist)
Herbie Hancock (ushered in electronic jazz and also is just a ****ing phenomenal pianist.. old stuff is my favorite)
Django Reinhardt (the father of "gypsy jazz" and the most incredible jazz guitar player I've ever heard, basically)
Bireli LaGrene is the modern Django -- check for his stuff for sure.. very impressive.
Of course you got your John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Duke Ellington, Billie Holiday, Dizzie Gillespie, etc. -- those are the giants.
And NINA SIMONE, **** I love me some Nina Simone.. never another voice like hers. Go get some Nina and listen to "Sinnerman", "The Ballad of Hollis Brown", "Don't Explain", and "Four Women"...Last edited by Stumbleweed; 06-13-2008, 03:40 PM.Send your Midnight Release weirdo pics/videos to my new website: http://www.peopleofmidnightreleases.com!Comment
