Re: The Da Vinci Code, Movie
Why not? If she has faith in the belief of Christianity then she should welcome you getting disparate viewpoints. Any belief that cannot be tested is a belief not worth having. The only thing I could see about it is if she simply didn't want you giving your money to the guy who wrote it because he's anti-Christian or something. But as has been said, this is not supposed to be an exhaustive disparagement of Christianity but rather a mild conjecture on some distantly plausible albeit fictional events.Originally posted by VinceMy mother being a devoted Christian, REALLY doesn't want me to see this movie.Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20

Re: The Da Vinci Code, Movie
It's just a fictional work. Just like Stephen King writes about aliens from another planet that mess with your head, Dan Brown writes about a secret that the Christian church has been hiding.Originally posted by ILLCHILLSo is it like the author trying to convince you that's what he believes or some guys hearing about it and checking it out or what? I like books but I never bothered to look into the hype on this book.
Whether it's true or not is not Brown's perogative. He's just telling a story."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Not to say anything negative about your mother, but anyone that fears idea or possibility is probably already unsure about their faith.Originally posted by VinceMy mother being a devoted Christian, REALLY doesn't want me to see this movie."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. Re: The Da Vinci Code, Movie
Originally posted by dkgojacketsThe movie, like the book, is FICTION. People need to understand that.
Anyway, Im getting ready to read Digital Fortress. I might have to take you up on that offer dave.
No problem man, just let me know. On a side note, I'm a Christian, have been for a long time, but I'm still going to see the movie because I enjoyed the book. Digital Fortress is another political thriller about the NSA and unbreakable codes. It's very good. I won't say too much more about it because I don't want to spoil the plot.Comment

It's a book, but I feel it would be a very good movie, as would all of Brown's books. I'd kill to see an Angels and Demons movie and hopefully if DaVinci does well, we may see it.Comment

I'm still excited to see it. The critics at Cannes are some of the most harsh, jaded, opinionated snobs in the business.Originally posted by ExtremeGamerYeah, it was Cannes, heard the same thing.Helen: Everyone's special, Dash.

Agreed. But if it was a documentary about the life of a fly, I'm sure they would have loved itOriginally posted by SkerikI'm still excited to see it. The critics at Cannes are some of the most harsh, jaded, opinionated snobs in the business.

I find critics are too harsh in general. Rarely do I find a movie to be as bad as they do (though some can be kinda bad). I usually enjoy a movie, even if it's not that great. I'm kinda picky with what I see though, so i weed out the crap movies.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

Re: The Da Vinci Code, Movie
Not sure if this has been metioned (as I'm lazy and care nothing for reading every post in this thread) but I read a news article today that said the critics did not like it at all. It was said that the book was way better and that the movie was borederline boring.Originally posted by RockinDaMikeAnyone waiting to check this out? I just got done reading the book again with the photographs to freshin up on all the details before seeing it. The trailors look great and i'm excited to see it.

I haven't paid a whole hell of a lot of attention to critical reviews since they panned Transformers the Movie.Originally posted by mgoblueI find critics are too harsh in general. But really though, a lot of it is mindset and how the movie presents itself. I can condition myself for a ridiculous, fun, popcorn flick like National Treasure and really enjoy it without worrying about how absurd the whole thing is. There's a place for movies like that and just because a movie doesn't rival Citizen Kane doesn't mean it can't still be an enjoyable diversion. The problem are the movies that try to take themselves too seriously for their own good.Helen: Everyone's special, Dash.
