Well that's good because I kinda like the direction Singer is going with this and i'd like to see the story to it's full conclusion.

Compared to Batman Begins which pulled in $205 million domestically, Batman Begins brought in about $24 million less than Superman Returns in its first 7 days. So Superman Returns businessmen do expect the movie to go over $200 million domestically.
Yeah, Batmin Begins got off to a slow start and through good word of mouth, ended up doing fairly well. Superman is a different movie, mainly because its not as dark but I feel Superman was done just as well if not better.

With the exception of Rachel Dawes, I thought Batman's cast was stronger.

Anyway, just got back from seeing the movie. I really enjoyed it. Brandon Routh looks/acts/sounds like a Christopher Reeves clone. I loved watching Superman fly, especially with the cape sound effect, I thought that was perfect. I really liked Jimmy's character, I thought he was cast perfectly. I don't think that Kevin Spacey's performance was underwhelming, but Lex Luthor as a character. Overall I thought it was a good movie and I'll look forward to the next installment, hopefully they'll get into Jason's powers a lot more.

you know what's weird. I just finished the novel of the movie, and not once did it make you think Jason was Superman's kid. There was no piano incident, Lex never held kryptonite up to Jason, and there was no late night talk between Superman and Jason at the end of the story. All that was totally left out. Maybe they wanted to hold something for the movie-goers, but I felt cheated out of the novel.

The novelization is not like most movie novelizations as it doesn't actually follow the movie 100%. It's basically the author's interpretation of the screenplay and some of his added flourishes.

I believe the author was Marv Wolfman. He created the Teen Titans and also wrote most of the original Crisis (Crisis on Infinite Earths)

Yes I know you probably know this, this info was for other ppl.

yeah, I just couldn't believe they left a major point of the movie out. It was left out of the comic novelization as well. I just found it strange. All the other parts of the novel were great though, especially the realization that it was actually Luthor that paid off scientist to make up the Krypton story in order to get Superman to leave Earth.

If that realization was in the movie, Luthor's character would have been so much better IMO.

yeah, Superman's return in the novel created so much more anger and hatred for Luthor towards Superman. Luthor was really angry because he went through all the trouble of paying off scientists in hopes that Superman would leave for Krypton and die. Another cool thing about the novel was how much Kryptonian knowledge was written about.

I wish they would have played Luthor's anger up a lot more than the simple "WRONG" he says towards the end of the movie. I really felt underwhelmed by Luthor's character. He didn't seem like anybody special, but rather the top Goon. I don't know, I just felt like his character was kind of weak.

I was hugely disappointed. I don't think it was any of the actor's faults, but it was clearly Singer's fault. I have always thought he was grossly overrated, but this effort as put him at the top overtaking Ron Howard. In fact, Singer blows. I thought it would be impossible to make a boring or mediocre Superman, but he found a way. Damn, at least we still have the near flawless Spiderman series and the incredible potential of the Batman series.

I loved the direction of the film, but I thought the development of some of the characters, mainly Luthor, was the biggest problem.

speaking of the Batman Series, rumor has it that Heath Ledger has been offered the role of the Joker.

Just jumped on this topic at the end...I really did like the movie......except for SPOILER ALERT!!!!!..when he throws the kryptonite land thingy into outer space, I mean, three dudes beat the **** out of him just because hes standing on it, then all of a sudden he can lift the whole thing up and throw it into space...kinda cheesy, but other than that I liked it.

According to Batman-on-Film (which is 99.9% of the time spot on), its true.

As for the island mass into space - I took that as his willpower to conquer the kryptonite. Plus I figured the point of him flying up next to the Sun was to show him recharging and powering up before the big climax. Also, it took almost everything out of him, literally.

Speaking of cheesy, I thought Lex's boots were kind of...dated?

Yeah I agree, I thought is was a really weak movie, I didn't feel the sympathy for the characters that I felt watching Spiderman or Batman Begina. Just a weak movie all around, IMO.
