      From the Philips press conference:

      Wh-oh... talking Blu-ray! They've got a brand new BDP7200 Blu-ray player.

Wow -- Target is going Blu-ray exclusive according to Stewart. That's something.

Will do, I'm following this closely tonight. There is a rumor going around right now that Target (which I posted above) and Walmart are going to be pulling HD-DVD support from their stores.

This will be very interesting to see what happens, just kind of sad to see the more complete format just lose out in the end. If stupid Toshiba and supid Sony wouldn't have argued from the beginning on these formats, we would have 1 complete format today.

I hope that Paramount and Universal have some kind of Press Release this week announcing their intentions. So many bitter people on the forums about this. At this point I see Toshiba taking the HD-DVD technology into PC's full force and I can see Microsoft using it in their next console especially now that the 51GB discs have been approved.

I hear it was about 6 or 7 companies that actually developed blu ray together, is that true?

Sony being one of them just put it out there to the public.

I agree though, one format is enough and there would've been plenty for all of them to share.

The TARGET thing has been rumored since the summer, so I'm not sure if this is NEWS.. I will be also listening to the Microsoft Press Conference @ 9:30 EST/6:30 PST tonight to hear what Billy Bill has to say.

                Should be intersting

True, but say goodbye to the weekly BOGOs and competing offers. Will be no need to basically give away their product in order to "win" the war.

As a bargain shopper, I'm definitely not thrilled about seeing an end to the war.

Agreed 100%, I don't see many BOGO's this year. Maybe some HD-DVD backstock, or older titles with BD. But like it's been, no way.

Now comes the BD vs. DVD war.

It all started over the iHD (MS) vs. B-Java, both sides wanted to use their own java based app and it caused a split.

Yup, it has been the rumor for a long time, but in the wake of Warner announcement I can see many retailers start to ditch HD-DVD to make room for the format of the future. Thank god for online shopping where we can still get these movies for cheap.

Doesn't that have alot to do with the HDTV vs SDTV in homes?

Speaking of the BD vs SD war. Can't see that heating up til it gets closer to the BIG SWITCH in Feb 09. That's when everyone is gonna be forced into digital tv. Question will be that once they see "the light" will it make them want to go ahead and start over with BDs.

Ugh, I saw some of the prices of the new Blu-Ray standalones with Profile 1.1

Samsung has a new profile 1.1 player for $400. Are you kidding me? Their combo player will be at $600 bucks.

I'm starting to sense that the only Blu-Ray standalones that we will see below the $200 plateau in the next couple of years will be Profile 1.0 players. This is only going to further slow the adaptation of HDM in most homes.

As far as Microsoft, I wouldn't be surprised if HD-DVD becomes their gaming medium for the "next" gen. They have been able to minimize costs using existing DVD infrastructure for manufacturing. Considering how much they have invested in the technology, it seems like it would be the best financial move. Like another post in the thread showed, there is no chance in hell they use BD-ROM in their system becuase of Java.
