I heard that the second generation PS3's will be released late in 2007 with the ability to play both formats through firmware updates.

Why in the world would Sony support their competitors format? Their goal is to run the HD-DVD format out of business, not help promote it. That makes no sense.

Panasonic is considering a HDTV/Blu-ray player package consisting of a $70,000 103 inch plasma & stand-alone Blu-ray player.

Samsung had a dual-format player in development, but there are rumors floating around that it's been scrapped.

No clue, but I'd expect that price range, with price drops on blu-ray stand-alones (Toshiba's HD-DVD players are already cheap compared to the blu-ray players).

In related news, NEC released a chip that can read HD-DVDs and blu-rays.

I'm getting WTC for Xmas. For those interested, the video transfer on Talladega Nights pretty much sucks. Prepare to be unimpressed if this is the same version of the movie that they packaged with the PS3.

don't read anything into first generation Blu-Ray movies because the compression codecs weren't up to par. Movies you should actually take a look at as far as blu-ray is concerned start with Black Hawk Down, move to Kingdom of Heaven ect... Movies that were released around early November. I'll be the first to admit those early release are only the quality of a DVD player.

Has anyone checked out Blu-Wizard in Black Hawk down, thats a cool feature.
