    Re: Official Blu-Ray & HD-DVD Thread

How do HD-DVD movies compare to Blu-Ray movies, for those of you with both formats? I have HD-DVD and was always told that the HD-DVD movies actually look better but since I havent had much opportunity to test this for myself Im looking for someone else's opinion who may own or have seen both in action.

      Re: Official Blu-Ray & HD-DVD Thread

HD-DVD is encoded better. It's a better format right now. Look wise, it's very hard to tell the difference, they are identical for the most part. HD-DVD has BD beat in the features department so far as well.

The exclusive companies are the big deal though, BD has Fox, Disney, Lionsgate, and obviously Sony...while HD-DVD has Universal, Weinstein Group, and some WB movies.

Nice. I wonder if those triple layer HD-DVDs are still on the cards.

So I guess my dream of Lions Gate coming to HD-DVD or atleast becoming neutral isnt going to happen now? I was really looking forward to the Saw series being in HD-DVD but it doesnt look like that is going to happen now.

Isn't Lions Gate doing downloadable content for Xbox Live?

Yes, they announced a ton of movies, but that has no bearing on HD-DVD.

They are BD only right now, but at any point they could come to an agreement with HD-DVD. Fox and Disney could as well, likely..no, but it could happen.

The only company that won't probably ever be HD-DVD is Sony/Columbia.

I didn't see a whole lot from that list that I'd really want. I want Walking Tall... but that's only because my alter Ego the Rock stars...

What about HD-DVD EG? Any new announcements from that camp? I'm still getting ready to pick up the HD-DVD drive.

I have to admit, Im becoming more and more skeptical about HD-DVD and how long they will stay in the game. I enjoy the movies I currently own but they have little studio support in comparison and BD seems to constantly have new releases coming out that I would want. BD already will have the Spiderman series of movies on it as well as Xmen, Saw series, Reservoir Dogs and the list goes on. Only big launches I can forsee for HD-DVD would be Matrix and LOTR which will probably make their way over to BD anyways. If there is any hope it would be having some movies launch oversea's in HD-DVD and then importing them, ie. Basic Instinct, Running Scared, Harry Potter GOF, Brother Grimm, Reign of Fire, Rambo 1-3 etc, which are all out in other countries already.

EDIT- Almost forgot Pirates being exclusive to BD as well and I can just see Fox releasing 24 on BD some point in the future but thats just pure speculation on my part.
