I'm just waiting for the heavy hitters to drop, which will likely tilt the format war. After all, a lot of people didn't adopt DVD until some of these franchises came out.
I'm talking about, in no particular order:
Star Wars
Indiana Jones
The Matrix Trilogy
The Lord of the Rings
Kill Bill (still waiting on the Special Edition regular DVD's)
The Godfather Trilogy
The first salvo has been launched by the Blu-ray camp, with Disney hopping on board and putting out some big name discs this summer (Pixar's "Cars" and Pirates), which might entice some new consumers.
I agree it should end, but if those franchises all end up in one place that format will be the winner. 'Star Wars' especially, since an uber-box set is rumored for this year (30th Annivesary of the original) and if it makes it's way to Blu-ray, things will be SWEET!I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I needed to be. - Douglas Adams

Rumor has it that the The Matrix Trilogy is coming to HD-DVD first, that could help them gain a few more customers.
The big thing I think will be in the fall when HD-DVD players are released at the $299 price point. Rumor has it that BluRay players should be coming in at the $400 price point by then also. Then I can see a lot more people jumping on these formats.Comment

Most of the movies you listed won't decide the war unfortunately.

Outpost.com/Frys.com has it for $22.99. I'm gonna take that print out to CC to get them to price match + get 110% price match guarantee on top of that.Comment

To be fair, Sony and Phillips developed the CD, floppy disc and DVD. Sony in its stupid mine always try to go outside the box and get that proprietary money. So when people always say failed format, they have to consider the ones they are using now and who created them.
UMD may have failed from a movie perspective, but it's still used for PSP games, that's not really a failure. Just a proprietary format.
Minidiscs were popular as hell outside of the US.Comment
