      Re: Official Blu-Ray & HD-DVD Thread

I'm just waiting for the heavy hitters to drop, which will likely tilt the format war. After all, a lot of people didn't adopt DVD until some of these franchises came out.

I'm talking about, in no particular order:

      Star Wars
      Indiana Jones
      The Matrix Trilogy
      The Lord of the Rings
Kill Bill (still waiting on the Special Edition regular DVD's)
      The Godfather Trilogy

The first salvo has been launched by the Blu-ray camp, with Disney hopping on board and putting out some big name discs this summer (Pixar's "Cars" and Pirates), which might entice some new consumers.

I agree it should end, but if those franchises all end up in one place that format will be the winner. 'Star Wars' especially, since an uber-box set is rumored for this year (30th Annivesary of the original) and if it makes it's way to Blu-ray, things will be SWEET!

I wish that this format war would end, but it just seems way too early. A few people over at the AVS and Highdefdigest forums believe that this war could go on at the most for another 2-3 years. Even releasing the heavy hitters of movie titles won't be enough to sway the non-diehards over. We need to keep in mind that a very high percentage of house holds don't have HDTV's which is needed for these highdef dvd players to be taken advantage of.

Rumor has it that the The Matrix Trilogy is coming to HD-DVD first, that could help them gain a few more customers.

The big thing I think will be in the fall when HD-DVD players are released at the $299 price point. Rumor has it that BluRay players should be coming in at the $400 price point by then also. Then I can see a lot more people jumping on these formats.

That Star Wars set was canned. Poor sales of the original unedited trilogy killed it. I thought I read that over at TheDigitalBits.com.

Most of the movies you listed won't decide the war unfortunately.

          Star Wars - Blu Ray
          Indiana Jones - Both
          The Matrix Trilogy - Both
The Lord of the Rings - Both
Kill Bill (still waiting on the Special Edition regular DVD's) - Blu Ray (not a heavy hitter though)
          The Godfather Trilogy - Both

That trilogy would have sold well if that horse's *** Lucas had released it anamorphic and with remastered sound.

Agree 100%. I didn't even look at them with Dolby Pro Logic and non-anamorphic video.

Just checked, it's $25 with Amazon, not nearly the discount I thought. If I was going to buy it, I'd probably just get it at Best Buy for instant gratification..LOL

Cosign. People love to clown Sony about their "failed" formats, but completely ignore DVDs and CDs.

UMD may have failed from a movie perspective, but it's still used for PSP games, that's not really a failure. Just a proprietary format.
