        Re: Official Blu-Ray & HD-DVD Thread

I have 28 HD-DVD's and 37 on Blu-Ray. I think buying movies has become a habit, used to collect sports cards but this has replaced that.

Only a handful of blu-rays right now:

          The Devil's Rejects
          Rocky Balboa
          The Departed
          Training Day
          American Psycho
          Goodfellas

I plan to buy Kingdom of Heaven, but other than that, it's been a mostly rental affair so far.

Kingdom of Heaven is excellent on BD, reference material.

No problem, this helps people that have one of these around or they can print this off and go to BB or CC. I remember you saying one is not around.

                    HD-DVD Winning the European Race

"A number of European independent film studios and DVD production companies are opting for Toshiba's HD-DVD format over the rival Sony technology, thanks to a strong support programme by the HD-DVD camp and concerns over the price of Blu-Ray technology."

Despite trailing Blu-ray sales in Northern America, a Financial Times report claims that HD-DVD appears to be winning the next generation format war in Europe, where 35 films from independent studios such as Studio Canal, Pathe and Filmax have been released on HD-DVD, opposed to just 10 released on Blu-ray.

While admitting that there is a long way to go before a clear victor emerges, Rodolphe Buet, Studio Canal's chief marketing officer, states that the marketing strategies employed by HD-DVD backers were far superior to those of Blu-ray manufacturers.

"I have met much more commitment from partners involved with HD-DVD than Blu-Ray. I met Sony in mid-2006 but the support was far below what was offered by the HD-DVD partners.”

However, “I am totally agnostic," he continues. "All the work we are doing on High Definition will be useful for making Blu-Ray discs if the Blu-Ray standard wins. It will be easy to change position."

Toshiba Second-Gen HD DVD Firmware Upgrade V1.5 Now Available

Version 1.3 had the following improvements, so I wonder what this latest fixes.

                            • Colorspace issues via HDMI-to-DVI connections corrected
                            • Video/audio sync playback and disc "stutter" improved
                            • Low audio volume/garbled center channel audio through HDMI fixed
                            • Sporadic "audio screeching" during playback of Dolby TrueHD soundtracks fixed
                            • Reading of audio CDs also improved, with less dropouts and "disc skips"
                            • Disc tray opening and closing speed times now faster

New 'Heroes' HD DVD Details Leaked

Fresh details have surfaced online for the highly-anticipated HD DVD release of 'Heroes: Season One,' with the set now expected to include bonus features exclusive to the next-gen release.

According to this recent post at the 'Heroes' fansite www.herosite.net, the first season of NBC's breakout superhero series is shaping up to be a feature-packed HD DVD box set.

One of the site's readers, Nick Grugin, brought back a report from the recent Wizard World convention held in Los Angeles, which hosted a panel featuring the 'Heroes' creators and key creative personnel.

While a firm release date for 'Heroes: Season One' has not yet been announced by the series' home video distributor, Universal Studios Home Entertainment, an August launch is currently expected.
