    Re: Official Blu-Ray & HD-DVD Thread

The 360 HD-DVD add on update is coming this week. It'll fix some of the issues people have had with combo discs as well as adding DTS sound mix to the player.

I saw that, but it didn't give a specific day & date, hence the reason I postd the link I did. That link states the update will arrive tomorrow.

Here's what the HD DVD audio update will include on May 15th:

            - Fix DD being stuck in "Night Mode" which is essentially Dynamic Range Compression leading to the sound sounding very flat

            - Option to output ALL HD DVD audio as DTS 1.5Mbps (list includes DD+, TrueHD, DTS, and any other audio option offered on HD DVD discs I may have missed)

            - Option to output ALL HD DVD audio as DD 640Kbps, (which it currently does, but will be fixed from the Night Mode bug), list includes DD+, TrueHD, DTS, and any other audio option offered on HD DVD discs that I may have missed.

            - Option to output ALL HD DVD audio as WMAPro (768Kbps I think), (list includes DD+, TrueHD, DTS, and any other audio option offered on HD DVD discs I may have missed) for those receivers that support WMA.

            - Option to enable/disable Night Mode (with the default set to off)

            - Fix a number of disc incompatibilities (including DVD Essentials) as well as a number of Lip Sync issues.

BTW EG, I brought the Add-On this afternoon & moved the A-1 to the bedroom...

The link didn't work for me, sorry, I was only messing anyway.

How is True HD working? Since only the Elite does HDMI. Or can it be passed over optical?

I love the add on, I've had it for almost 6 months and haven't had a single issue. Thing is great, excellent quality.

The link is now fixed... When it comes to the Advance HD Audio Codecs, you'll have the option on how you would like your receiver to output it. (DD or DTS) when connect via an Optical Cable. You'll also have the option to turn Dynamic Range ON/OFF..

If there able to pull this off, people will be very happy myself included..

Update is up. To get into the HD DVD Audio Settings you must play a HD DVD or DVD Movie, then hit the "B" button. This will bring up the HD DVD Menu. Look to your right where you see "ADVANCE" hit ADVANCE. Now scroll thru the options until you see Digital Audio Options. Select that option & make your changes.

I have my HD DVD running in DTS. I tried out TROY in TRUE HD & AEON FLUX in DTS. Both work perfectly & sounded really nice. Looks like people will be happy with this update. Gotta get to work. Talk to ya guys later....

                        Re: Official Blu-Ray & HD-DVD Thread

Well I strolled over to B&H A/V in NYC to checkout what was going-on & ended up leaving with the PIONEER VSX-516 HT Receiver. It was on CLEARANCE for $150.00. I was in needed of a new receiver, so I brought it. It offers all the goodies:

                        Dolby Pro-Logic IIx
                        Dolby Digital
                        Dolby Digital EX
                        DTS 96/24 ES & NEO6
                        It also offers WMA PRO.

It doesn't offer HDMI, which is OK with me. So I hook-up the Add-On via OPTICAL to the receiver. Turn my 360 on & begin testing the update. Let me just say the WMA PRO sounds AMAZING. I tried 3 movies:

                        Posideon
                        Batman Begins
                        MI:3

I went to specific scenes from each movie where the sound would standout. WMA PRO sounded the best. I was really surprised how well WMA PRO sounded. Mind you all Receiver Enhancements become disabled when in WMA PRO Mode, yet it still sounded better than both Dolby Digital & DTS... which again I was totally surprised.

The Matrix was reviewed at HighDefDigest, and Peter had this to say about the video quality. Anyone who's read his reviews knows he's one of the fairest reviewer out there. I haven't agreed with some of his reviews for quality, or movie...but he's at least very fair.

In fact, this release compares favorably to anything I've seen yet on either high-def format. All three 'Matrix' films look fantastic on HD DVD, and I'd be more than happy to whip out any of them when I need a demo disc to show off my system.

300 coming to HD DVD and Blu-ray on July 31st. HD DVD to receive exclusive features.

Things become a bit more lopsided as we move into the high-def exclusive features, with only the HD DVD edition (not the Blu-ray) also boasting a picture-in-picture video commentary, plus the exclusive "Vengeance & Valor" interactive game.
