    Re: Official Blu-Ray & HD-DVD Thread

Best Buy is giving away a Spidey 3 Blu-ray sampler, with exclusive shots of Spidey 3 in HD with the purchase of a Blu-ray disc or player.

Too bad Best Buy is so overpriced on BD and HD-DVD that I don't think I'd ever buy anything there.

I can't wait for Face/Off, Bourne Identity, and the Matrix trilogy on HD-DVD. Those are my three most-wanted releases.

Circuit City is going to have the XBox 360 HD-DVD drive for 199.99 next week (yeah, normal price I know) but if you buy it you get any 2 HD-DVD's for free as well. Adding to the pack in of King Kong, and for 200 bucks you get the player and 3 movies. Not bad, not bad at all.

            This starts Mother's Day.

If it hasn't, it will Monday, there's an HD-DVD update coming for the 360. I've heard of people being able to play it on the 360 and the A2 now though.

It worked fine on my A2, but I read that some people were experiencing problems.

                        Universal going neutral?

Heise Online, a German IT website, is reporting that during a press conference, representatives from Pioneer announced that Universal will break their exclusivity agreement with HD DVD. This would allow Universal, the only large studio exclusively supporting HD DVD, to freely distribute their movies on Blu-ray. It is important to note that this announcement has not yet been confirmed by Universal.

It has long been speculated that Universal was receiving monetary compensation for being an exclusive HD DVD studio. This announcement would signal that they have decided to forgo the compensation in order to release titles on Blu-ray.

                        --------

Amidst the rumor, Universal announced four HD-DVD titles for July: In Good Company, Scent of a Woman, Nutty Professor II, and Streets of Fire.

                        *Update*
                        Universal's Denial

Craig Kornblau, the President of Universal Studios Home Entertainment tells us in an email that the rumors that Universal will support Blu-ray "are totally false".
