Re: Official Blu-Ray & HD-DVD Thread
Shrek 3 looks very good on hd-dvd, still waiting for Ratatouille to get here to see how nice that looks on BD. PQ is very good and some of the best that I have seen in hidef for an animation, but I think that crown might go to 2 Disney titles coming later this week thanks to EG and his their $37 shipped on Amazon and look 3D on BD.
I just wish Paramount would fix the damn sound in their movies on HD-DVD, first Transformers was light on sound and now Shrek 3. Face Off was actually booming, but come on when you give a catalog title better sound over 2 huge releases.Comment

Not a bad deal, but my kids/wife don't want to wait. I think I'll take the ad to Circuit City and see if they have it. If so, they can price match it. If not, Best Buy is right next door.Comment

Sony Joins Profile 1.1 Party with 'Resident Evil: Extinction' Blu-ray
The latest studio to announce plans for its first Profile 1.1 Blu-ray title, Sony's 'Resident Evil: Extinction' is shaping up to be its most technologically advanced BD release yet.
As we've previously reported, the studio first alerted retailers that it was planning a January 2, 2008 Blu-ray release for the third film in 'Resident Evil' franchise late last month. Although Sony declined to release supplemental details at the time, full specs for the title are now in, and they seem sure to impress.
Among the Blu-ray exclusives planned for the disc are two Profile 1.1-enhanced features -- the "Under the Umbrella" video commentary (Sony's first true picture-in-picture track), and "Blu-Wizard 2.0," a newly-energized version of the studio's disc search content and organization interface, which will now "memorize" how you've watched content and store it for future access even after you eject the disc from the player.
Additional supplements shared with the standard-def DVD version of the film (which is debuting day-and-date with the Blu-ray) include an audio commentary with director Paul W.S. Anderson and producer Jeremy Bolt, four making-of featurettes, eleven deleted scenes, and two video game demos (for "Devil May Cry 4" and "Resident Evil 5").
Tech specs include 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 video and uncompressed PCM 5.1 Surround audio (at 48kHz/24-bit).
As presstime, Sony had not yet announced full specs for the original 'Resident Evil' or the 'Resident Evil Trilogy,' which are both due on Blu-ray the same day as 'Extinction,' but Sony is listing the collection as a three-disc set, so we expect it to simply contain the three stand-alone editions of the trilogy (the second film in the seres -- 'Resident Evil: Apocalypse' -- was first released on Blu-ray earlier this year). Needless to say, we'll keep you posted.
As previously announced, MSRP for the 'Extinction' Blu-ray is $39.98.

First New Line Cinema Blu-Ray, Hairspray, is a keeper
Despite some negative preconceptions, I ended up loving 'Hairspray.' Featuring a breakout performance by Nikki Blonsky, this is a buoyant, heartfelt and beautifully realized musical that stays faithful to the off-beat spirit and tone of the original John Waters cult classic. As New Line's first-ever high-def release, this Blu-ray is equally impressive, featuring terrific video and audio, plus two discs full of extras. There is simply no reason not to pick this one up -- if this one disc is any indication, next-gen latecomer New Line may just become the studio to beat when it comes to high-def disc releases.

Re: Official Blu-Ray & HD-DVD Thread
Rocky and anyone that ordered Ocean's from Deep Discount, I would call them up and check to see if your box set shipped. Mine was processing since yesterday, so I called them up and it's on back order till after Thanksgiving. Which the lady said it would ship after 11/24, so I cancelled my order. Best Buy has it for $59, while Amazon has it for $55.95 so I'll just use one of the reward zone coupons that I have from Best Buy to knock this price down.
I think that this might be more of a problem with HD-DVD, there were many stores yesterday that didn't get the HD-DVD in till later in the day.Comment

I didn't order it, at all. I'll have to see if I like Ocean's Thirteen before I buy the set.

Re: Official Blu-Ray & HD-DVD Thread
I went to a Best Buy and CC yesterday and they didn't have either Shrek or Ocean's HD-DVD. Others on Highdef and AVS were complaining about the same. Must have been certain distribution centers were sending these out late.
