My 27" iMac I bought in October of '09 is still in tip-top shape. Won't even think about a new computer for at least another three years.

My 4 year old macbook is only just now starting to slow down. Mainly slows down with complex internet pages but with chrome its not too much of a problem. It does take forever to load word, excel, and ppt though.

Yeah, that's about how long my 15" Powerbook that I bought in 2005 for college lasted. Never had a single problem with it, other than the battery life not being amazing and the bottom of it reaching temperatures of roughly 1600 degrees. Sold it on Cragislist in '09 for $300 before I got my iMac.

Anything I can do with my Macbook Pro to ensure longevity? Not that I'm worried, or anything - just want to get as much out of it as I can. It's about 9 or 10 months old right now. No problems so far.

If you haven't bought Applecare, you should. You have about two months to do so lol! In general, Macs will last you a long time. I know plenty of people that still use iBooks from 2003. Just use it like you would any other laptop and enjoy it! Also, a great case to get would be the Speck See-Thru Satin. That's about it for me.

                  Mac App Store, FTW.

Also, I'm sure you already have it but just in case you don't, download "Store News" - awesome deals everyday.

I'm really hoping that once my son starts 4th grade, there is an emphasis from the curriculum on using the computer, because I really want to upgrade my 5.5 year old iMac Power PC G5. The new 21.5" base model would be perfect!

Reasons for upgrading: videos runs very slow, programs tend to need a fair amount of "force quit" and restart, the iMac is not compatible with my iPad 2, would like the option of using Office with Windows 7, flash games my son plays load slowly, would like a larger screen size (current screen size is 17"), screen resolution is just alright...

                        Re: Apple Mac Lovers

Need some help from you guys. I got my MacBook in Feb of 2010 so I am not under warranty anymore. Problem is the bottom rubber is coming off and from what I have read on the net it is due to heat. Anyway can I just unscrew the bottom case and pop it back on or buy a new one and replace it?

Or could I just buy a case to go over the entire macbook which I have been meaning to do for a while now and take the rubber piece off all together? Additionally is there a problem with not having the rubber piece on the computer anymore?

Thanks for any help I get.

Thanks for this recommendation! I've been looking for a good case for my macbook pro 13" since I've had it. I looked on Amazon and found one of these cases. Best part is I used some left over credit to pay for it.

                          Thanks again Scooby!

Got the case in the mail today. It's a very nice case. It's a little tough to install because it's snug but once you get it on it's fine.

Also this Red Keyboard cover I got goes well with the red case. I was worried about my keys getting "Finger Spotted" after time from the oils, but hopefully this will solve my problems.

I went with the all-red theme:
