But what happens if something happens where you can't reach it?

I'm the guy who likes to fully format his HDD and reinstall Windows 7 from scratch when it's starting to get problems. I don't like space being taken up on my drive to restore from.

New systems come with restore discs that have Lion on it.

Verify this at an Apple store before you buy the system if you decide to go with an older model system like the MBP.

So I did a bit of research today and it looks like I'll be waiting until early 2012 if I wait for the new MPs.

I'm just going to get the open-box quad off of amazon and put the 6-core in it.

All comes out to around $2500.

You better be producing some awesome videos for us with this new rig.

Just bought a new 21.5" 2.7GHz iMac.

Love it.

I'll have to learn MacOS, but so far it's interesting. I like that there's no registry and that installing and uninstall is as easy as dragging a file.

They keyboard is throwing me off, though. I may need to buy the wired one with the keypad.

Its time to upgrade to Snow Leopard and then Lion soon. I'm not enjoying missing out on numerous features Snow Leopard and Lion offer such as the App Store for Mac.

plist files are the mac's version of a registry sort of..

In case anyone is still running Tiger like i was (10.4.11) Apple will tell you have to upgrade to at least leopard before you can go to snow leopard and then to lion.

This is not the case. I spend 45 minutes on the phone with Apple care after a rep had told me I could go from tiger to snow leopard without buying leopard which they sell for $130 while the snow leopard upgrade is only $30. So I purchased a the snow leopard upgrade from a local computer store.

I called back to verify and spoke to a "senior" rep who started out saying that wasn't the case and I would have to buy leopard first for $130. I told him I wasn't going to do that and expressed my anger at being told that I could go from tiger to snow leopard. He said he would see if get me just the leopard upgrade for a discounted price (not the whole package with iLife that is $130). While he was finding out I googled to see if there were any message board threads about going from tiger to snow leopard. There are a lot and they all say it isn't a problem. When he got back on the phone the told me I could the 2 disk I need for leopard for $16 each. I told him I wasn't going to give Apple another $32 just because they made a "mistake" in telling me that tiger could be upgraded to snow leopard without going to leopard first. He finally agreed that they made the error and told me he would send me the leopard install disk at no charge. So just to be safe I'm waiting till I get the leopard disk but I'm not paying for it.

Just figured I'd pass this along in case anyone else runs into a similar situation. Don't just give Apple your $ because they tell you that you have too, it's often not the case. I love my Mac but the Apple Care reps are going to try to milk every dollar they can get out of you, which I guess is part of being a successful company.

I decided to go out and buy an adapter to plug my old monitor into my iMac - and it's awesome. I've never done a dual monitor set up, before but now I'm really glad I tried it.

Also grabbed a regular wired keyboard with the keypad. Feels way more familiar and is easier to use. I like the wireless idea, but the lack of the other half of the keyboard got to me.

I don't really miss the keypad on my wireless keyboard. If I was using it at work it would suck since I have to do some data entry, but at home it doesn't bother me a bit.

I use programs where I have to enter a lot of numbers and the keypad is a real life saver for me. Can't live without it right now.

For anyone who sat out on the release of OSX Lion, Apple has released a couple of updates since then that have fixed some of the issues I had with it. I'm no longer having wireless or bluetooth connectivity issues.

I've updated a couple days ago. Good stuff so far.

does anyone here just use a macbook pro as there main system and don't own a desktop?

I'm a bit torn, I'm going to get a mac, its between they Imac 21.5" or the 13" macbook pro. Not sure what to do.

I have a MacBook Pro as my main system and my wife has a MacBook...works fine for the two of us.

Just bought the rain mstand for my MacBook at school. Should free up desk space for me...going to make grading easier.

I own a Macbook Pro as my only computer and it does everything I need it to and more. Besides if you're jonesing for Windows, create a bootcamp partition. Best of both worlds imo.

Eventually, I'll upgrade to Lion as well as upping my RAM from 2GB to 4GB.
